Chapter 2
*My POV*
April pulled out her phone and began dialing a number. EC, KC and I stared at the Foot Clan confused on to why they were stealing. "Channel 6." I heard a voice say and we knew what it was. EC, KC and I rolled our eyes.
"Chris. Chris, it's April, EC, KC and Izzy. We're at the docks." April said. "We're in the middle of the evening brief, O'Neil. Whatever you got can wait for tomorrow." Chris said. "No, no, I need a camera crew--" April said before he hung up.
April sighed. We rode our bike further down the docks so we wouldn't be seen. It was raining a little. "2-3-3, clear!" A Foot soldier said in a faint voice. We looked through a tare in a tarp covered part of the fence, to see what the Foot were doing.
"That one's loaded. Get it out of my way." One of them said. "Copy that." Another one said. April pulled her phone back out to record it, but it wasn't close enough. "Damn it." April said as she sighs.
She began climbing the fence. "April!" EC and KC whispered. "Well, it's now or never." I said as I began following after April. EC and KC sighed as they began climbing the fence as well. We could see them carrying something, probably chemicals and loading them into trucks.
"Unit two, area three move!" One of them said. Suddenly we heard metal clanks. Everyone looked around as EC and I had April and KC behind us. Suddenly we heard a lot of them grunting and yelling.
"I've got movement!" One of them said as they all looked around. "Keep your eyes over here!" Another one said. "Weapons free!" Another one of them said. "Hold position!" Another one of them said.
We heard weapons as we moved through two shipping containers quietly. We suddenly heard grunting and saw one of the shipping containers go flying. "What the..." I said as we watched. Foot soldiers were sent into the water.
"Retreat! Retreat!" The woman said as they all began to fled. They got in their vehicles and drove off. We almost got seen, but we quickly hid behind the shipping container. We heard the sound of what sounded like blades which caused us to look up and see a figure on top of the shipping containers.
April was panting as the sound of blades were swishing around. I paid attention to the silhouette of the figure, and it definitely wasn't human. "Shit." April said as she quickly pulled her phone out to get a picture.
Once she finally got her phone out, we were shocked to see that the figure was no longer there. "Damn it." I grunt as I frown. We slowly made our way through the destruction and on the shipping container that was thrown, there was a symbol.
EC, KC and I studied it, while April took a picture of the symbol. After we got the picture, we took off running so we wouldn't be seen just in case police shows up.
| Time skip |
We soon got home from the docks, and we went to the living room. "Taylor, Taylor!" April said as we walked into the living room and put our stuff down. "Hey. I'm Skyping with my mom." Taylor said as EC, KC and I sat down in our chairs by the window.
"You have no idea what we just went through. I am freaking out. I saw a Foot Clan attack." April said. "Are you guys okay?" Taylor asked really concerned. "We were riding our bikes by the docks. It was night, it's dark already, and there are Foot Clan soldiers everywhere." April explained.
"Then out of nowhere, there was this guy fighting back against them!" KC said happily. "And he...he left behind this symbol." EC explained. "And we know that we've seen it before. We can't remember where." I explained.
"But there is someone fighting back against the Foot Clan. There is a vigilante in this city. And no one knows, but we do. We know. And now I have my story. There is no more froth or foam for me." April said using Vern's words and I facepalmed. KC and EC cringed.
"What?" Taylor asked confused on what she meant by the froth and foam thing. "Never mind." April said as we grabbed our stuff and took it back to our rooms.
| The next day |
"All right, we need a lead for tonight. Who's got it?" Thompson asked. "Uh, 'Major redevelopments proposed for lower Manhattan.'?" A man asked. "No." Thompson said, shutting that down immediately.
"I got something. 'NYPD task force taking credit for small decline in Foot-related crime.'." Another man read. "I like that. Let's run with that." Thompson said. "Yes, ma'am." One of them said. April came over as EC, KC and I were waiting with Vern.
"Attention, 7:00 a.m. broadcast, we have three minutes to air." A voice said on the intercom. "Oh, O'Neil. I'll talk to you in a minute." Thompson said to April as we watched. "No, I...I know that I'm actually overstepping my boundaries by being here, but I think that you're gonna want to hear what I have to say. I actually think that you're all gonna want to hear what I have to say." April said as we prepared for this.
"Um, I witnessed an attempted Foot Clan robbery at the docks in Brooklyn last night." April said before she was stopped. "Hold on, the scanner said that gunshots were heard, but there were no reports of any Foot Clan activity." The man from earlier said, causing me, EC and KC to roll our eyes.
"That's because whatever they were attempting to do was stopped." April said. "What were you doing in Brooklyn anyway? Was there a trampoline convention?" The man asked causing people to chuckle, that's when I stopped it.
"We were in Brooklyn because we were reporting, not sitting behind our desks, McNaughton." I hissed and glared at him. "Okay, kids! Who stopped it?" Thompson asked. "Well, there was this guy. We didn't see him clearly, but he was swinging these giant shipping containers and knocking these guys into the...into the river. There is a vigilante that is fighting back against the Foot Clan. There's a huge story here!" April said.
KC hid her face in my shoulder as I rubbed her back. EC had her chin on my other shoulder as we were waiting. "O'Neil, I think you found Superman. That's cool." McNaughton said and I glared. People began chuckling.
"The vigilante is real. We saw him." April said pointing to EC, KC and I as well. We nodded. "O'Neil, I'm gonna assume that you would not come up here and tell us this fantastic story without some tangible proof." Thompson said waving her hands around as she stood in front of April.
April pulled a photo out from the file she was holding. "I took this photo on one of the shipping containers. I actually think that it may be his calling card." April said as Thompson scoffed. "This is nothing, O'Neil. This is nothing!" Thompson said.
"That's exactly the point. Somebody stopped a Foot robbery and left no evidence. There is nothing." April said and I facepalmed. EC and KC groan. "Oh, I get it. You wanted me to put 'nothing' on the nightly news." Thompson said.
"Of course not." April said quickly but was cut off. "You know, I'm gonna pretend we never had this conversation. I'm erasing it from my mind. And the rest of us, we're gonna go back to work. Let's hit it!" Thompson said before walking off.
"Okay, we're ready with the Casper story." A woman said. "Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Channel 6 Morning News. New developments in that ongoing sanitation strike to tell you about. But first, after reviewing the city's soaring crime rates with the police commissioner, Councilman Dan Gregor took to the steps of City Hall, reaffirming the city's commitment to fight against the rising crime organization calling themselves the Foot Clan. He did so on the heels of a renewed contract with Eric Sacks and Sacks Industries." The newsman said.
"Using the Sacks research and securities technology, this city greatly improves its chances of bringing the Foot Clan to justice!" The man said on the TV.
*3rd POV*
A man was sitting with his hands tied behind his back with rope. He was bald, and you couldn't see his face. He spoke in Japanese (But I'm putting the English version). "Begin!" The man said but as he fought against the Foot soldier, he slammed his head onto the soldier's wrist.
He grabbed the soldier's other wrist and broke it with his damn jaw. He sent the soldier to the ground easily. He broke out of the ropes easily and stood up and walked towards Karai. "Your men are weak. It's no surprise your missions fail." Shredder said and cracked his neck.
"We couldn't have anticipated the vigilante showing up at the docks, Master Shredder." Karai explains softly. "You have been trained for such contingencies." Shredder hissed angrily. "But we've never seen an enemy like this. Their size. Their strength. They're not human." Karai explained.
"I don't believe in fairy tales. It's what society wants to reduce the Foot Clan to, a myth. But the Foot Clan will rise again. Capture the vigilantes however you can. Use innocent people as bait. No one will stop us in our quest to reclaim victory. We will own this city." Shredder said.
*My POV*
We were at a place for celebration of Eric Sacks. EC, KC and I did not trust him one bit. He just...gives off a bad vibe. "Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming the NYPD's top benefactor, Eric Sacks." The intercom said.
The crowd was applauding as Sacks chuckles. "Please, please. Please. Sit down, sit down. I have to say, it's wonderful to see so many people out here tonight, especially in a neighborhood so hard hit by the Foot's crime wave." Sacks said as Vern was messing with the camera.
April, EC, KC and I were in dresses as we listened to what Sacks was saying. "Is it just me or the way he says Foot is a little suspicious." I whispered to KC who nodded. "Years ago, my life was touched by tragedy. I was a young scientist working with a world-class team on cutting-edge research." Sacks said.
April, EC, KC and I suddenly got the memory of our fathers working with Sacks and we frowned. "And our laboratory was attacked, set fire, robbed by the cowards that call themselves the Foot Clan. Several of my employees...lost their lives that day. And it is in their honor, in their memory, that Sacks Industries, whether through Sacks Biomed, Sacks Robotics, or Sacks Construction, will remain committed to keeping the city of New York, our city, safe." Sacks said.
The crow began applauding him again. "Something's off." I whispered to EC and KC who nod. "So whenever someone takes flame to this city, I will be there to put the fire out. And that's a promise. Thank you. Thank you." Sacks said as he began walking off.
The crowd stood up and applauded him. Sacks walked off the stage and EC, KC and I followed after April as she went towards Sacks. "Great work, Sir. Very inspirational." A man said as he shook Sacks hand.
"Mr. Sacks. April O'Neil. This is Erwina, Isabella and KC. You worked with our fathers." April said as Sacks faced us. "Oh. I can't believe it. I have seen you guys since..." Sack began saying. "Uh, since their funeral. It was a long time ago." EC said softly as I held KC close in case she started crying, which she did.
"Yeah." Sacks said softly. "I just wanted to tell you that your words really resonated with us, and we hope one day contribute to the city in the way that you do." April said. "Well, it looks like you're doing a pretty good job. Channel 6, very impressive, girls." Sacks said.
"Um...thank you. It's uh...it isn't exactly everything we anticipated it would be." April said honestly talking about our talk this morning. "As long as you are true to yourself your fathers will always be proud of you." Sacks said to us.
"Mr. Sacks, we have to be uptown at 7:00." Sacks bodyguard said, reminding him. Sacks face fell a little. "I'll see you on TV." Sacks said and April gave him a smile before he walked off. We stared off into space a little bit.
