Chapter Thirty-Two
^Gif is of Kiernan Shipka who plays Bella Welsh.
Somehow, I found myself back in the detention room with the two boys and Diana at lunch the next day.
"So you've accepted your fate?" Diana asked when I walked in.
I nodded silently.
"Have the three of you read this law?" Diana read the article aloud, "That is not the point of werewolves - living a secluded life. It's about wanderlust. Or even nature. Yet, they're banishing my people."
She took a deep breath and looked up to the sky, "Zeus, what did I do to you?"
I expected there to be no answer but there was the faintest sound of thunder, perking my ears up. Jace shifted in his seat next to me.
Diana took a deep breath, "Here's what's going to happen. You'll obey the laws," she shrugged, "We can't start Wolf War Five. But I'll find out what will happen with the Rogues. As for the three of you... you'd get away with living in the forest back here."
"In... Crestview Forest?" Tommy asked, surprised.
"Yes," Diana nodded, "No one goes in there except for the two of you. It's just one more person. Besides, unlike the other packs, you three have been through a lot. I'm not kidding when I say I love Blue Heart the most. Which is why you get a mansion, not some shabby shack the government will give the others."
I swapped a small smile with the boys. They may have gotten me into this mess but at least we're going to be a mess in style.

"I'll visit every weekend," Mum smoothed my bangs back, "I love you so much. And, uh... make wise choices with that boy."
I rolled my eyes, "I love you too, Mum." I pecked her cheek before grabbing my suitcase and duffel bag, "Visit me on Saturday? You should the place Artemis got Hephaestus to make us... you could stay the weekend."
"I won't stay," she murmured, "But I'll visit in the afternoon."
"Bring me some books?" I pouted jokingly.
She nodded, "Of course sweetie."
There was the sound of a car honking.
Mum sighed, "I swear, Justin had better manners than this kid. That says a lot."
"Mum, he's not even a friend," I admitted, "I hardly know him."
"Okay," Mum whispered, "Be careful. I love you so so so so much."
I kissed her cheek again before dragging my bag and suitcase out the door. I made it halfway down the path before Jace actually got out of Tommy's car and took the duffel bag from me. I smiled, "Thanks Jace."
"No problemo, Emma," he answered and he slid the duffel bag into the boot of Tommy's car.
How did Tommy have the money for this car?
"Hurry up!" he ordered from the driver's seat, "We don't have all day."
I slid my suitcase into the boot before hopping into the back of the car, "Actually we do."
"What?" he narrowed his eyes at me.
"We have all day," I added, "We don't have any obligations anymore."
Tommy cast me a small smirk, "I guess you're right."
I grinned brightly at him before looking back up to my mum at the front door. I buckled myself in as Jace closed the passenger seat door. Tommy started down the road slowly before surprising me. He grinned, "Anyone fancy a last meal at Rosie's before we're exiled forever?"
"Perfect," I nodded.
At least I wasn't the only one trying to keep the mood light.

When we walked in, I immediately went to searching through the racks of books. I picked up a book I'd never seen before and had just started reading the blurb when Tommy groaned, "Don't tell me you're one of those girls who spends her pastime reading..."
I shrugged, "Always have been and always will be."
"How much room will your books take up?"
I pretended to think it through, "I have 368 paperbacks, 21 hardbacks, 96 in my Kindle library... and also an eBook library available for me to access. But I only need the room for the paper and hardback ones."
He slouched away, muttering, "Good thing we have a mansion."
I read the rest of the blurb before deciding it was too dark for me. I pulled out the next one, Storm. The blurb looked interesting - it was about a girl who was entwined in the lives of four guys with elemental powers. I bought it purely out of empathy for the girl.
The woman gave me the receipt with a smile, "Come again soon, dear."
I nodded despite the knowledge that I wouldn't ever come here again.
Jace called me to their table in the cafe section of Rosie's and I made my way over. I sat in the spare seat and asked, "Have you guys ordered yet?"
"We were waiting for you," Jace declined, "What did you buy?"
"This book," I held it up, "It looked interesting..."
Tommy took it from my fingers and read the blurb before scoffing, "Guys with elemental powers?"
"Says the werewolf," I rolled my eyes, taking it back and putting it in the little bookbag.
A waiter approached our table, "Can I get y'all anything to drink?"
"A lemonade, thanks," Jace answered.
"A Carlton Dry, please," Tommy replied.
"ID, sir?"
Tommy fumbled for his bag on the floor and then pulled out his wallet, showing his drivers' license to the man. He glanced at him on the photo and then in real life, checked the date and then nodded, "Chilled?"
"Please," Tommy asked.
"And you, miss?"
"A blue coke, thanks," I smiled.
"No problem," the man nodded, "I'll be back in a few moments with your drink order and to collect your food orders."
He walked away and Tommy raised an eyebrow, "A blue coke?"
"A beer?" I countered.
Jace smirked, "You're both weird, let's pass this phase, already."
I rolled my eyes slightly, "He's supposed to be our driver, is all I meant."
"Jace has his license," Tommy shrugged, "I'm not a complete idiot."
"So you read," Jace raised an eyebrow, though he'd said it as a statement, "Is that what you plan to do from now on?"
"And write," I added, "Might seem a little cliche for a girl in a small town but I like to read and write."
"Why?" Tommy asked, honestly curious.
I shrugged, "I've never been out of Crestview. I mean, I've been to Richmond - my grandma lives there - but that's as far as I've ever gone. Whenever I write, it's always in a big city or somewhere far away. And when I read, it's either in England or America."
I realised I'd been saying that with wide, eager eyes. I dialled down my expression.
Jace and Tommy exchanged amused glances. Jace smirked, "Cute."
I blushed, "Thanks?"
Jace leaned back in his chair, "I have a question. How am I supposed to find my mate? We don't know any other..."
He trailed off.
His gaze lifted straight to Tommy's. They seemed to communicate silently.
I sighed, "I'm always on the outside of these things."
"Crimson Lake," they said in unison.
"Where's that?"
"Who's that?" Tommy adjusted my question, "They're the pack that helped my parents out years ago."
"Are they still around?" I asked.
Tommy and Jace exchanged another glance. Tommy murmured, "I have no idea. I know where their pack is - they already live in isolation so they'd have no reason to move - I just... don't know what Wolf War Four did to them."
"Do you have any of their phone numbers?" Jace asked, alert.
"No..."
I got out my phone, "Where about's do they live?"
"Walla Walla, near Albury."
I got out white pages and did a quick search, "Last name?"
"What's Kai's last name, again?" Tommy asked Jace.
Jace narrowed his eyes at the table in thought, "Wasn't it Kai Rupert?"
"That's it," Tommy confirmed.
I typed in the information before sliding my phone across to Tommy, "There's his number."
Tommy shivered, "That's actually kind of creepy; how you did that."
I smiled sarcastically, "Thanks."

Artemis had really ordered Hephaestus to go all out. We had a four-storey split-level mansion with overhanging bits, made of creams, white and lots of glass. The sun glowed straight onto it making it look like something out of a movie. Actually, it looked like a prettier version of the Cullen house from Twilight.
It was gorgeous.
I suddenly didn't feel too bad about being exiled along with these two. I grabbed my bags from the boot as the guys grabbed theirs. Tommy locked the car and then made his way up the front steps with us. On top of the floor mat was a thin, blank, white envelope. I picked it up and opened it. Inside were four keys - presumably for the front door. I took one and opened the door before sliding it back in the envelope. I gripped it with my bags as I made my way inside. I let out a gasp.
The house was even more beautiful on the inside. Dark and light timbers with dark grey tiles everywhere, hanging lights and glass looking through the forest. A large fireplace in the corner near the TV and couches. An expansive kitchen I should stay out of. A hallway with more rooms. And that was just the first floor.
Jace let out a low whistle, "Wow, I feel rich."
I grinned at them and placed the envelope next to another on the kitchen bench before hurrying up the timber spiral staircase to the next floor. I peeked in the two doors along this floor. One belonged to a study with thousands upon thousands of books.
I dropped my things and stepped into the room. Each wall was covered with shelves of books three meters tall. Beanbags sat in various places along the room.
"I found heaven!" I shouted, turning in a circle.
Jace chuckled at me from the doorway. Tommy just grinned. I beamed at the two of them, "I'm making it my mission to read every book in here twice before I die."
"Even the encyclopaedias?" Jace gestured to them.
"Even them," I confirmed, "I am going to do it, guys!"
I wanted to stay in there forever but Tommy convinced me to at least tour the rest of the house first. The next room was a bedroom with a joint bathroom. They let me have it because it was next to the massive library. There was white flooring, ceiling and walls but everything else was of dark timber and blacks. I had a four-poster bed, a dresser and wardrobe, and since it was a corner room I had floor to ceiling glass on two entire walls.
I turned back to the two boys who were becoming impatient, "I feel like Belle right now."
"Belle...?" Tommy cocked his head.
"From Beauty and the Beast," I clarified, "I want to see the rest of the house, come on!" I pushed past them into the hallway and continued up the stairs.
The boys' rooms matched mine. We had to agree, though in exile, the house was worth it.

I retired from the library around six that night and walked downstairs to see what the guys were up to. They were lazily sprawled in front of the TV watching some horror movie. I only had my eyes on it for a few moments before grimacing and turning into the kitchen. I picked up the second envelope that I'd spotted before and opened it, sliding out the contents.
I squealed, "Tommy! Jace! Come here!"
They groaned. Tommy muttered, "Why did I convince her? Maybe being a Rogue would be nicer."
"Guys!" I rolled my eyes, "We have car keys."
I dangled the three sets of keys from my fingers. Their eyes widened in sync. They exchanged another one of their glances before running to me. I yelped and took a step back from the enthusiastic boys.
Tommy grabbed them from me; more like snatched. We raced him down to the garage and he pulled it open. Slowly, it revealed probably the most superficial part of the move. I couldn't tell you what they were, just that they were three beautiful cars. Cars that would rarely be able to be used.
Tommy walked along the line of them, barely skimming his fingertips across the hoods, naming them as he went past, "A white Jaguar, F-Type Convertible; designed for experts on the road and needs instantaneous responses. Beautiful but difficult. Next, an orange McLaren, 570S; goes hard and fast with extra power and performance but is tough. Last, a red Mazda MX-5 Miata; designed for people just beginning to look into sports cars with soft handling." He grinned back at us, "These are epic cars."
Jace smirked the tiniest bit, "So which is yours?"
"The McLaren," he said instantly, "I need the McLaren." Tommy's eyes shone as brightly as mine had in the library.
Jace grinned at me, "Mind if I take the Jaguar?"
"Sure," I shrugged, "I don't know much about cars anyway."
"I'm going to take a drive in the McLaren," Tommy tossed the other two sets of keys at me, "I'll teach you how to drive yours later, Em."
He called me Em? "O-okay?"
Jace turned to me, "Can you cook?"
"Not at all," I shook my head.
Jace sighed, "We're screwed for food."
