"Werewolves migrated to Australia with the outbreak of WW1," Max explained to the full room, "The human one, not the wolf one. World War One meant that the werewolves that had been fighting for Britain decided to migrate to Australia. They bred here with female humans. No female has become a werewolf as far as we know. Now the-"
"Then who were all the girls downstairs?" Kaycee interrupted.
"I'll explain," Max narrowed his eyes, "Now the werewolf population is entirely male but the females in the family trees are all superhumans too. They control the nature around them. Where the males are a literal part of nature, the females control it. Weather, plants, animals, they all control one aspect. My own sister controls bears and so is currently working in Alaska with them. The-"
"Wait, explain that again," Aaron raised a hand to stop him.
"Say for instance, I had a child. Now, unless the mother was the daughter of a werewolf, she would be human. The child, however, would be supernatural. If the child was a male, he'd become a werewolf by the ripe age of twelve. If the child was female, she'd be able to control some aspect of nature by just seven years old. But the mother doesn't have to be supernatural for this trait to be passed on. We call the women with powers druids."
"Hold on," Ezra seemed deep in thought. I watched as he leaned forward inquisitively, "You're saying that a child of a werewolf would have a human mother?"
"Yes," Max sighed, "Unless the mother was the daughter of a werewolf herself."
"Right," he mumbled, still in deep thought.
Max continued, "The first werewolves date all the way back to Ancient Greek times. They say the wolves that carried Artemis' cart through the snow were actually werewolves themselves. The first werewolf was created when Artemis observed a man be bitten by a wolf under a full moon. He had screamed and screamed for help but no one came. He would have died but instead she gave him the blessing - the ability to turn into a werewolf himself. It took him a while to understand what had happened but many years later he had a child with a human woman. The child was male. Two years later, they had a baby girl. The girl was able to create a cyclone by the age of nine. The boy could fully shift into a wolf by the age of thirteen. These traits were carried on through the generations."
Max spoke with a certain aura, like he couldn't even believe what he was talking about; awestruck. He went on, "Around the time that B.C. became A.D., a werewolf chose to do something. Bite a human being... This caused an uproar in the werewolf kingdom. Some decided to do the same because they saw what it could do. Biting a human makes them become a werewolf as well. You gain power and your eyes shift from orange to red, marking you as an Alpha. The first you bite is your Beta. The more you and your Beta bite, the bigger your pack becomes. After WW1, the wolf one, it became illegal to bite a human. the packs were growing too big, it was growing too complicated and there were too many fights. Many, like the Crimson Lake pack, obeyed this. Others, like Red Tribe, didn't."
"What did they do?" I whispered, entranced.
"They continued biting. The problem?" Max raised an eyebrow directly at me, "The full moon. The-"
"What about the full moon?" Ezra leapt at the chance to ask.
"Stop interrupting me!" Max shouted suddenly, making everyone but Ezra jump.
Ezra's glare narrowed slightly. I would rub his back or hold his hand to console him but I was supposed to be mad at him for ordering me around. Besides, why would I hold his hand? We aren't dating... but it did feel wrong to be mad at him. It was like there was a hole in my chest.
Max took a deep breath and went on, "The full moon happens once a month, as you know. It only really affects the Alpha and the Luna. They both grow tenser, more possessive over their pack, dare I say hornier, and more susceptible to... well, each other. The rest of the pack usually feels a little tired at this time."
"How does a pack work?" Ezra butted in whilst Max took a breath.
Max rolled his eyes slightly but said, "A pack consists mainly of the Alpha, Luna, Beta and family. Wolves don't like to move in packs bigger than twenty so werewolves try and keep the same. The Alpha, Luna and, in the future, their children, the Beta and his mate and their future children and sometimes parents, siblings etc. Of course, it can also include other werewolves. I have a pack of twenty-three. There's me, my Luna, Addison, my Beta, Kris and his mate, my sister, Charli, Addison's brother, Kris' son and daughter and then a few other werewolves that have joined us along the way."
"So my pack would be...?" Ezra raised an eyebrow, clueless.
Max smirked, "You're such a young cub. Continuing, it would be you, your little Beta over there and..." Max stared at me.
His dark eyes bore into mine and I shifted in my seat, uncomfortable.
Max looked away but I could have sworn he gave Ezra a wink, "You know the other two."
Ezra paused for a moment but then nodded slowly, murmuring, "I knew it..."
Max changed the subject, "You need to get your pack registered. All unregistered packs are usually fined a hefty amount of cash. It's a shock they haven't found you yet."
"How do we register it?"
"The computer?" Max scoffed, "We aren't complete savages."

Kaycee, Jeremy, Liv and Aaron remained downstairs with some others, getting acquainted. I would have stayed with them but Max assured me that I had to go with Ezra, no questions asked.
Max gently guided us into a closed off room on the second floor where a desktop computer sat on the desk. He led us over and typed a URL into Google Chrome that just looked like complete gibberish. It took forever to load before he got it.
He nodded, "I'll leave you to it."
He closed the door behind us, leaving the both of us together in a room small enough to fit two of them into my bedroom.
Ezra moved silently over and sat down in the chair, scanning the page with his eyes. I read it over his shoulder.

"Okay," Ezra's voice was raspy, "Name?"
"Pick something cool like... Mystic Fur," I grinned.
Ezra typed it in but it came up with an error sign, "It's already taken."
"Of course," I sighed.
He asked, "What about... Blue Gems?"
"I like it," I agreed, "Try it."
"Taken," he scowled, "Blue... What about Blue Heart?"
"What's your obsession with blue?" I smirked down at him in the chair.
His cheeks flushed red and he avoided any eye contact, "I just... like the colour is all."
"Right," I said softly, "Try Blue Heart."
He typed it in and it came up with a green tick on the other side of the box.
"Nice," he smiled.

He froze over the keys. I cocked my head at him, "What's wrong?"
"Uh..."
"Ez?"
"Look, I need to talk to you."
"Then talk," I shrugged.
He wheeled the chair around so he was facing me, "Your mum is definitely human right?"
I narrowed my eyes and nodded slowly, "Yes. There's no way she isn't."
"But... your dad?"
"This is about the truck stop?"
"Sort of. Not really," Ezra admitted, "Back when we were listening to Max he was saying how you don't have to have a supernatural mother - only a father. I'm convinced your father was a werewolf."
I felt everything slow down but I nodded, "I can see that."
"Really?"
"Yeah," I murmured, "but Liv and I are definitely not supernatural."
"Aren't you?" he cocked an eyebrow, looking me deeply in the eyes, "Didn't you and Liv cause a third-degree thunderstorm the other night when you were fighting? And didn't you cause the entire bush to warm up a few degrees last night?"
"You're saying I caused last night to be so hot?"
"Yes," he nodded sternly, "You don't see it."
I thought about it for a long time. Was there any possibility of me doing that? Controlling the weather? I gulped, "I see it."
Ezra nodded slightly, "More news?"
"What?" I asked weakly.
He stood up abruptly, taking me off guard.
He took one step closer so his nose was almost touching mine as he looked down. He murmured, "I'm sure you're my Luna."
My eyes widened. I'm his what?!
I opened my mouth to... I don't know exactly... but next thing I know, we're kissing.
His lips are on mine and I finally feel the hole in my chest close up. I feel like I'm on top of the fucking world.
