Chapter 16

"Ricky, wake up!"

Sav just rolled over with a grumble leaving his lips, his eyelids not even fluttering and his ocean-blue eyes remaining tightly shut. He was probably still dreaming. There was no one who would want to wake him up this early on a Saturday morning.

"Ricky, come on! Wake up, you sleepyhead!", the voice invaded his dreams again, this time being accompanied by two strong hands gripping his shoulders and shaking him roughly. His body curled in on itself by instinct and another groan left his lips but his eyes opened to mere slits that time, trying to focus on whoever was leaning over him and refusing to stop shaking him.

The first thing he could make out was a lanky tall silhouette with dark brown curls at the very top and his heartbeat intensified, making his hope for it being Joe rise. But after his eyes were able to make out the other person's face, he saw the intelligent dark brown eyes of his older brother Brian and the signature frustrated lip bite that only saw the light of the day whenever Brian was really impatient.

"Bri? What the hell? Why are you waking me up that early? Leave and let me get some more sleep!", he groaned and closed his eyes again, already knowing that he couldn't fall asleep again either way. But he wouldn't give his brother the satisfaction of making him do what he wanted.

"Good morning to you, too, Ricky", Brian replied with sarcasm dripping off of his voice, "and happy birthday by the way."

With those last few added words Sav was suddenly wide awake, not understanding how he could have forgotten his own birthday. The last few weeks had been so stressful and filled with other important things that he had completely forgotten about turning nineteen soon.

His eyes opened completely in confusion, blinking sleepily at his older brother who was wearing a smile like the Cheshire cat on his facial features. He was horribly bad at hiding things from other people because his face always gave everything away.

"What is going on, Bri? Even though it indeed is my birthday, you're never the one to wake and congratulate me first."

Brian started fidgeting with his fingers, grinning from ear to ear at his words. Sav just patiently waited for him to open his mouth and tell him what was up because Brian was never good at holding the things in that he was excited about.

"Well, I just got you a small present and wanted to give it to you before anyone else does. I need you to get dressed for it though, so get your ass out of bed and put on some clothes you can leave the house in."

Still really confused Sav hesitantly left his bed, not yet sure if another one of his brother's pranks awaited him or if he had actually planned something nice for once. Eyeing his older sibling with suspicion written clearly all over his gaze the younger one opened his closet, choosing to give his brother a chance and do as he said. So he grabbed his favorite pair of bright blue ripped jeans, a black long-sleeved blouse, and a studded belt, leaving to the bathroom on tiptoes to not wake anyone else up at any cost.

Soon after that he was fully dressed and turned his attention to his luscious curls, feverishly trying to get them to fall around his face in the way he wanted them to. They were always giving him a hard time but that day they were particularly stubborn. With an exasperated sigh, he took a look into the mirror after half an hour, deciding to call it quits and give the rest of his appearance the final touches.

Careful not to make any noise he rummaged through his mum's make-up bag, digging out his favorite eyeliner and rimming his blue doe-like eyes with the black paint. A bit of mascara was next before he finally turned to his lips, deciding to touch up their rosy color with a bit of lipgloss.

"Jeez, Ricky, what are you doing in there for so long? Hurry up, will you?", he suddenly heard Brian's voice through the dark wood of the bathroom door, pulling him back into the moment with full force.

"I'm almost done, out in a sec!", he replied quickly, hurrying to hook three of his favorite silver necklaces around his neck and slide a dangly silvery earring into its rightful place on his left earlobe. Satisfied with his final appearance he turned and left the room, hurrying to the front door where his brother was already waiting for him.

"Holy shit Ricky! You look absolutely amazing!", Brian greeted him, smiling from ear to ear when his youngest sibling stepped into his line of sight. He had always been very fond of his brother and had tried to show him support whenever he could because he knew that Sav's rather feminine way of being would surely not sit well at all with their conservative father. He loved the fact that Sav didn't care about other opinions and simply lived the way he wanted. He deserved all of the respect in the world for that. And apart from that, Brian could see with his own two eyes how pretty his little brother looked when he lived out his style and especially, how big his smile was when he wasn't restricted in his way of being in any way.

Sav blushed at his brother's compliment and turned to the shoe rack while a shy 'thanks' left his lips, pulling his black boots out from in between the other shoes to put them on. As soon as he wore his shoes and his warm winter coat, he grabbed the door handle but Brian stopped him.

"Listen, I really hope you'll like it and enjoy your day to the fullest. Mum told me to wish you the best of times, too. Now I want you to close your eyes. And don't open them until I tell you to, okay?"

Completely confused now Sav nodded, closing his eyes and accepting his brother taking him by the arm to guide him. Soon after, he heard the door opening and felt the cold winter breeze hitting his face in an icy invitation. He could already feel his cheeks reddening from the cold while he patiently waited for Brian to allow him to open his eyes and see what was awaiting him.

"Okay, open your eyes, Ricky."

Sav directly complied and a gigantic smile immediately stretched his rosy lips.

"Joe! What are you even doing here?"

Brian chuckled to himself while he watched Joe trying to make his way over to the two of them from the car parked in front of their driveway he had been leaning against, but he was almost tackled halfway due to an overexcited Sav jumping into his arms. He could see the two of them exchanging a soft kiss before Sav gently pulled the green woolen hat back over Joe's ears after it had slipped upwards a little. The scene made him smile. The two of them were made for each other and he simply couldn't understand how anyone could doubt that.

The two young lovers finally made their way back to Brian hand in hand and the older Savage could clearly see the love and bliss glistening in both of their eyes. They were an adorable, wonderful couple.

"Hey Brian, how are you doing? Glad everything worked out", Joe's voice finally pulled him out of his observing trance and the taller boy surprised him with a friendly hug, even letting go of Sav's hand for a second in the process. Brian grinned at that and gave him an appreciative nod, watching how his brother's hand directly snatched back Joe's and how his whole statue visibly relaxed at the contact. It was incredibly sweet to see their effects on each other.

"So, what do you two have in store for me today?", Sav finally broke the silence, causing four eyes to switch to him immediately. Joe grinned dreamily at his boyfriend before starting to talk with excitement clearly resonating within his voice.

"Well, I'm gonna take you to a nice breakfast place right now and you're gonna receive another present there!"

Sav's eyes started shining with happiness at that request, Brian noticing how his brother almost bounced up and down in excitement. Brian had known all along that spending quality time with his boyfriend would always be the best gift one could give to his younger brother. Joe seemed to be equally as happy about the plans because he smiled so brightly that Brian was sure his cheek muscles would start hurting when he went to sleep that night.

"C'mon honey, you can already wait by the car. I just quickly need to talk to your brother", the tall Elliott-boy finally said, breaking the silence and encouraging his lover to go over to the old blue car parked in front of their driveway, wanting to turn to Brian but Sav addressed him again.

"Wait, Joe, since when are you able to drive a car?"

"Since I passed my practical exam two days ago, why?", was the only response he was cheekily able to get out before Sav launched himself into his arms with an excited squeal, claiming his lips in a proud kiss. Brian simply chuckled at their cheesy antics.

"God, I'm so proud of you, babe!"

Joe watched Sav making his way over to the car with a dreamy grin still firmly implanted onto his rosy lips, only Brian's throat-clearing being able to shock him back into the moment. As if he was caught red-handed Joe guiltily snapped his head around to look at the older Savage, his cheeks flushing crimson.

"I'm so sorry, I just can't help myself... He's way too cute to be real...", he whispered under his breath, his eyes glazing over with the love he felt once again.

"I know that my little bro is quite good-looking but I'm not gonna comment on that topic any further. That's obviously your area of expertise."

"Will you two hurry up? Brian, you're not trying to steal my boyfriend, are you? And not blabbing out embarrassing childhood stories about me, either?"

Sav's voice brought them both back into the moment, Joe smiling thankfully down at Brian.

"I'm so happy you helped to set this up. I owe you, mate. Have an amazing day, too!", the taller boy said and finally left the dark-haired Savage-boy standing in the doorway, his eyes once more fixating on his lover leaning against the parked car of his dad. Pulling out the keys he let them jingle together in his hand once, still feeling jittery about the achievement he had just accomplished two days prior. He then wandered over to Sav, placing a soft kiss on his lush warm lips before opening the door and holding it open for his lover to take a seat. A few moments later he was seated, too, and started navigating the car out onto the street with pride and excitement filling him once more.

"Go on then, Love, take me wherever you want to."

With a bright smile, Joe did just what Sav asked him to do while he felt the younger one's head lean against his right shoulder, the soft curls tickling his cold cheeks. He just knew this day would turn out amazingly.

~~~~
"So, what's that second present you and Brian have for me, honey?", Sav asked after he had successfully polished his plate from all the pancakes that had been stacked on it, wiping his syrup-drenched lips with a napkin and expectantly glancing at his lover from beneath long lashes. They were situated in a cute little pancake house Joe had found and Sav was absolutely stoked, devouring the delicious food while asking his lover about the present that awaited him in between. Joe had been dancing around the topic all the while they were eating but it had been obvious to the younger one that Joe couldn't wait to tell him about it, either. So he decided to use his puppy eyes because he knew that his lover couldn't deny him anything when he looked at him like that.
With a nervous and excited sigh, Joe reached into the bag he had been keeping close to him ever since they had gotten out of the car, pulling out a flat quadratic package and sliding it over to Sav's side of the table with a hopeful half-smile.
"I really hope you'll like it as much as I think you will. Brian gives you his best wishes as well."
With a flattered nod at him, Sav started to unwrap his present, knowing that it was a vinyl as soon as one corner of it was uncovered. But when all of the paper was gone, his breath caught in his throat. Four all too familiar faces were looking back at him.
"H-How? Joe... I'm speechless..."
"It's Queen's newest record 'The Game'. A really friendly dude at the record store reserved it for me. But look inside."
Still completely starstruck, Sav followed Joe's orders and nearly had a heart attack. Two small pieces of paper fell into his lap and he instantly knew what they were. Without another word Sav placed everything on the table and stood up, rounding the table to reach his lover with tears in his eyes and pulling him into such a passionate kiss that it left Joe with his head spinning.
When he pulled back, he let out a huge sniff while the widest smile Joe had ever seen stretched his soft lips. The taller boy immediately scooted back his chair and allowed his shaky boyfriend to sit in his lap.
"How on earth did you get tickets to a Queen concert? It's so freaking surreal!"
"Well, a great deal of that was Brian's part. A friend of his actually knew the band was coming over here as one of the first people, so he was able to immediately get access to the tickets as soon as they were out because he knew directly where to look for them."
Joe gazed into his lover's sparkling eyes, gently kissing his slightly parted lips again before pulling back. Sav seemed to regain some of his composure, too, because he reached over the table to grab one of the tickets and turn it around in his hands.
"Queen - The Game Tour, 2nd of December in Wembley Arena, London. But Joe, that's today! We're going to drive to Wembley Stadium today?", he exclaimed after reading the inscription of the paper snippet in his hands, beaming at Joe with the disbelieving awe still present in his ocean blue eyes. His lover simply nodded and kissed the tip of Sav's nose, looking at him with a cheeky grin on his lips.
"Exactly, honey. That's why we will have to get going now. That way we'll get to spend some time in London as well!"
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go already!"
Joe snorted happily at the picture of Sav jumping up from his seated position with a squeal and impatiently tugging on the sleeve of his jacket to make him hurry up.
"You sure are the cutest thing that ever walked this earth, you know that?" Sav's eyes crinkled happily in their corners at his lover's words when he turned around, making Joe's heart take flight once again. He couldn't wait for everything the day still had in store for the two of them since he knew it was going to be amazing.
~~~~

After four long hours of driving down England's highways, Joe finally spotted the sign on the side of the road that officially welcomed them to the capital city of their home country.

"Look, Savy! We're arriving!"

Sav lifted his head from Joe's shoulder at those words, sleepily rubbing his eyes but being careful not to smudge his eyeliner. As soon as he saw the sign he seemed to be wide awake again judging by his gigantic smile.

"Oh my god, Joe, we're gonna see Queen!", he exclaimed and Joe chuckled at his behavior that started to have some similarities with hyperactivity at that point. He gently reached over and placed a calming warm hand on Sav's bouncing thigh, the younger man taking hold of it immediately.

"So, what would you like to do before we go and visit the concert?"

Sav's eyes sparkled, making it clear to Joe that he had multiple ideas that couldn't even be done in a week's time. They would have to return someday, Joe was sure of it.

"Well, let's just walk around a bit and see what we find on our way?", Sav suggested and his lover nodded in approval, concentrating on the road again while grinning happily to himself.

A few minutes later they found a parking lot downtown and Joe did his best to park smoothly, which worked for the most part. One frontwheel was standing on the grass patch next to the street's asphalt, but he couldn't care less. He quickly left the car to go over to Sav's side and open his door for him, extending one hand for him to take.

"Being a gentleman, are we, Joseph?", the blue-eyed man chuckled before grabbing Joe's hand, swinging his boots out of the car and placing a small kiss on Joe's cheek. The latter blushed at the sound of his full name from his lover's lips and Sav laughed softly, closing the car's door behind him and stepping onto the sidewalk with a happy skip in his step.

"Just let me be extra sweet to you on your birthday, Love. By the way, have you figured out what to do yet?"

Sav tilted his head and looked up and down the shopping street they were in, his eyes finally catching something that sparked his interest.

"Oh, I have an idea! Just be open to it and follow me, will you?"

Joe nodded in curiosity, letting Sav take his hand and pull him down the street, finally noticing that they were coming to a halt in front of a small tattoo store.

"Get a partner tattoo? Please? It could just be a small one", Sav begged with his best puppy eyes and Joe simply couldn't say no. He still wasn't immune to that terribly adorable gaze.

"Okay. But just a small one, fine?"

His lover nodded enthusiastically and pulled him through the door, the young man behind the cash register directly looking up at the soft jingle when they entered. With slow steps Sav approached the man, smiling his best smile to make a good impression.

"Hey, do you do partner tattoos? My boyfriend and I would love to get a small one."

"Sure thing, mate! Do you already have an idea what motive it should be? And maybe also where you wanna have it tattooed?", the man replied with a friendly smile, coming out from behind the desk to shake Sav's hand and grin at Joe.

"Well, I need to get it somewhere my parents won't find it, so what do you think about the hipbone, Love?", Sav asked Joe and the latter thought for a moment, but finally nodded. He knew that Sav's dad would most likely not be pleased if he found out Sav had gotten a tattoo.

"That's fine with me. How about a small star? Since you're the star my world revolves around?"

Sav smiled so hard at those words that his cheeks hurt slightly. He knew already that it was way too perfect to argue with it.

"Yes. That's perfect."

~~~~
An hour later the two of them walked out of the store again with gigantic grins on their faces. They had a permanent bond now, even if something would try to take their relationship apart they would always have a part of each other with them.
They got into the car again and Joe drove them over to Wembley Stadium, Sav clinging to his lover's hand on his own thigh all the way. They both were sure that that day would be one of the best of their lives.
When Joe held his lover from behind that evening, swaying slowly from side to side to Freddie singing "Love of My Life", he knew that that prediction was nothing but the truth. There might not be a better moment than that exact one.
That evening they fell into the king size bed of the small hotel room in London that Joe had booked as a surprise and felt the ecstatic exhaustion seeping into their bones. Joe had rarely seen Sav smile as much as he had done on that particular day so he mentally patted himself on the back at a job well done.
"Joe, Love? I'm still too wired to go to sleep, will you maybe make love to me to end this perfect day?", the younger one asked his boyfriend into the content silence with his eyes already sparkling in hope. Joe just grinned and pulled his lover closer, covering the slim body with his own and sinking into the passionate kiss the man beneath him had initiated. Loving him like that in that special night felt even more perfect than all the times beforehand.
Basking in the afterglow they finally laid there, tangled up in the sheets and each other and Joe gently stroked the soft skin of Sav's belly while the latter contently snuggled into his bare chest.
The taller one's fingers traced random patterns on the skin beneath them and eventually wandered lower, his thumb gently brushing the skin over his hip bone next to the fresh tattoo.
"This tattoo will always remind me of you, Sav, even when everything tries to tear us apart. I love you and I'll love you always. Don't ever forget me too, okay?", he whispered into the silence and he could feel the fluffy curls tickling his cheek when their owner nodded in understanding and affirmation. They had never felt as close to each other as they did at that exact moment. And Joe hoped that that would never change again.
