The timer for the cookies beeped and I took out the first batch without saying anything.
I put the cookies on a cooling rack and put more dough on the tray, then popped them in the oven and set another timer.
My back was turned but I heard Derek let out a huge sigh. "You just remind me of my sister." He sounded defeated. His voice cracked. "She was just like you. Always wanting to save the day, caring so much about helping that it ended up dividing the rest of us. You would have loved her Elise."
I turned around to see Derek leaning against the kitchen counter, silently crying. It was a weird sight.
"Nothing bad will happen to me. I promise. Besides, I'm pretty sure my mom would have your head if something did happen," I comforted him.
Derek wiped his face, composing himself. "Fine then. Your next lesson is long term emotion control. Find one of your friends and try to control what they're feeling. You might be able to keep Scott calm during the full moons. Or any other person the alpha decides to change for that matter."
"I can try it on Stiles. I'm going to his house in an hour," I replied.
"Good, just don't tell him what you're doing. He might alter your results."
I nodded and Derek left. I grabbed my phone and keys, packing up the cookies as I went. I threw everything in a tote bag and headed out the door, starting the walk to Stiles' house.
I got there after a ten minutes only because I felt uneasy the whole walk.
Stiles was waiting outside, he waved at me as I turned into his driveway and walked into his house.
"Welcome back," Stiles smiled at me. I blushed. He closed the front door and led me to the kitchen.
I took out the tray of cookies and placed it on the counter.
"What's this?" He asked.
"Researching fuel," I replied. He raised an eyebrow. "They're cookies."
Stiles got out a plate and put about five of them on a dish, then he motioned for us to go in his room.
I plopped down on his chair and he put the cookies on the desk.
"So, any supernatural happenings since we last talked. My aunt Talia visited me in a dream again, said I needed to find my other half," I bit into a cookie.
"Your other half? Like a soulmate? Is that even a thing?"
I shrugged, "It is now. I mean, werewolves are a thing and you don't believe soulmates exist?"
Stiles reached for a cookie and picked up a book off the ground with his free hand.
He popped the cookie in his mouth, chewed, then flipped to a bookmarked page. "I've been reading this book, it's about legends mostly. But they have to do with what native americans witnessed and recounted to settlers when they were moving towards the coast. It talks about a human goddess, who only comes around when she's truly needed. She is aided by the gods and goddesses of beyond our realm for aid of other supernatural and otherworldly beings. There are many names in which this being goes by, but the most common are Guardian Angel and Addonexus."
Stiles looked up at me wide eyed.
I breathed a sigh of relief. "Can I say something?" I asked meekly.
"Sure," Stiles looked shocked.
"Please don't be mad about this but I kind of already knew what I was. I was just not allowed to tell you, as per my mothers request. The only thing I didn't know was that I am basically a goddess."
Stiles began to stutter, "But... Wait, so did Scott know?"
I nodded, "Well, I can't directly tell people. It's against the rules apparently. I only told Scott to leave you out of the fighting. I don't want you getting hurt."
He nodded, trying to process everything. "Look, Elise, I'm going to get hurt anyway, it's just a part of my nature. I will be by your side helping you, it's what I do. The only way I will get stopped is if I get put in jail."
"What about jail now?" Sheriff Stilinski poked his head into Stiles' room. I jumped a bit and gripped Stiles' shoulder. "Oh hello Elise. I'm guessing you're the one who brought the cookies."
I waved, trying to shake off my nerves. "I hope you enjoy them. We're just going over notes for a test."
"Test already? It's only the first week of school. You're being a good influence on Stiles alright. Well, I'll let you kids get back to it. I'm grabbing dinner then I have to go to the county office for an investigation debriefing. I'll be home late, Stiles. See you later," The sheriff waved and then left.
I let out a sigh I didn't know I had held in.
"Your dad is sneakily quiet."
Stiles scoffed, "You should hear him trying to get a snack in the middle of the night, he bumps into everything."
We got back to work and somehow we both ended up on top of Stiles' bed, reading random facts back and forth to each other.
"Did you know that there are only ever female addonexus? Well, only females have been reported. And apparently there is a time in the addonexus life where you can shapeshift into your true form?" I read out loud, yawning a bit. I checked my phone to see that it was already after ten. "Oh my god, my mom's gonna kill me. I need to go home."
Stiles gently grabbed my arm.
"You could always sleep over here. I don't mind. My dad won't be home."
I raised my eyebrows at him. "Oh really?"
Stiles widened his eyes. "I didn't mean it like that. I only meant that... You know what? Just call your mom and see what you can do, I'm going to get another cookie."
Stiles left the room and I laid back on the bed, taking out my phone and calling my mom.
She answered almost right away. "Hey honey."
"Hey mom. I was wondering if I could stay at Stiles for tonight."
There was a pause, then, "Is the sheriff going to be home?"
"He's coming back soon. He had a debriefing."
Not a complete lie.
"Okay, as long as you're back home before noon tomorrow. I have someplace I want to take you."
"Cool. I'll see you tomorrow. Love you."
"Love you too, Lise."
I hung up with my mom and went to find Stiles. He was in the kitchen chowing down on two cookies at the same time.
"What did your mom say?"
"She said yes." I replied with a small smile.
"We should totally make a blanket and pillow fort," Stiles said excitedly.
"What are we? Five?" I laughed.
Stiles rolled his eyes. "Hey, we need to live in the moment more."
"I will do just fine sleeping on your bedroom floor."
"Don't be stupid, you can take the bed, I'll take the floor."
Elise chuckled, "With all due respect, I don't know what goes on under the covers of your bed. The floor is fine."
Stiles went beet red. "Nothing goes on. That's.... Well..... Look, nothing goes on."
"I'm sleeping on the floor or I'm walking home, Stiles."
"Fine," Stiles gave in. "But can I at least make you a blanket fort to sleep in?"
"Deal," I rolled my eyes.
Stiles gave a little yelp and went to the hallway closet. I only chuckled and went back to his room.
This was going to be a long night.
