Bad Moon Rising

"I read the rules before I break them."

"Thanks for coming Ric." Stefan spoke as soon as a man with sandy blonde hair walked into the living room.

"Can I get you something to drink? Coffee, bourbon? Bourbon in coffee?" Damon asked him which made me roll my eyes from where I sat beside Elena.

"Elena mentioned you needed my help." The man who Elena had identified as Alaric spoke before his eyes landed on me. I stood up and smiled, throwing out my hand for a hand shake.

"Hello. I'm Spencer, Elena's cousin. It's nice meeting you." He shook my hand, a small smile on his face as he stared at me.

"Alaric Saltzman." He let go of my hand and I sat down beside Elena once again.

"Yeah, we were hoping you could help sheet some light on the Lockwood family." Stefan spoke up after our little greeting, Alaric sitting on the couch in front of us.

"Now, why would I know anything about the Lockwood's?" Alaric questioned, confused, sending me a glance.

"Why you wouldn't?" Damon sat down. "But your dead not dead vampire wife might." Alaric looked alarmed, glancing at me again.

"Isobel's research from when you guys were at Duke together." Elena told him and then noticed the look he kept giving me. "She knows." Rick nodded at her and gave me a curious look.

"You said that she has spent years researching this town, is that right?" I questioned, my eyes narrowed. He sent me a confused gaze, probably wondering how I know that. "I recalled it from when Elena was explaining everything to me." I shrugged.

"Isobel's research here in Mystic Falls routed in folklores and legends but at the time I thought much of which was fiction."

"Like that amazing vampire story." Damon commented which earned a look from all of us.

"Aside from vampires, what else?" Elena questioned.

"The lycanthrope."

"Wait, like werewolves?" I asked, getting excited. I've always had this thing for werewolves. Vampires are cool, yeah, but werewolves are freaking awesome. Stiles and I would always stay up real late watching the classic werewolf movies. We've probably watched all of them.

"No way, impossible, way too launchy." Damon pulled me out of my thoughts as he spoke, shaking his head, disagreeing with Alaric.

"Is it?"

"I've been on this planet one hundred and sixty some on years, never came across one. If werewolves exist, where the hell are they?" Damon questioned and I tilted my head, thinking about it.

"Maybe because when they see you, they run away with their tails between their legs because of how ugly you are." I fired at him, crossing my arms. I heard a snort and I looked over to Alaric who was smirking.

"I like you." I grinned, giving Damon a smug look. "Why do you suspect the Lockwood's?"

"Because vervein didn't affect the mayor at founder's day but the Gilbert device did and it affected his son Tyler."

"And at the school carnival his uncle Mason exhibited inhuman behavior when he fell into the carnival's worker." Stefan told him, giving Damon a side glance. "It suggest it's some sort of a supernatural entity." Alaric nodded.

"We were hoping that Isobel's research could help us figure it out what it is." Elena leaned forward, looking Alaric in the eyes.

"Well, all her things are still at Duke." She cleared her throat. "I mean her office is still there, she's technically still missing."

"So can we get access to it?" Damon rose his hands up, leaning forward. "Ric, we don't know what we are dealing with. If this wolf men thing is true, we have seen enough movies to know it's not good. It means Mason Lockwood is a real life Lon Chaney and that Tyler punk may just very well be Lon Chaney junior which means Bella Lugosi, meaning me, is totally screwed."

"Sorry you can't go too, Stef." Damon spoke to his brother as we waited outside the car for Elena and Stefan to say goodbye.

"Call me if you need anything." Stefan told Elena before turning to me. "You too."

"Will do." I gave him a thumbs up and a smile.

"Oh, I'll take really good care of them." Damon smirked, a glint in his eyes. Elena grabbed Stefan by the neck and kissed him in front of us. And telling by Damon's face, I could tell he was jealous.

"Hey." I spoke softly to Damon. "I might not like you but I recognize that look. You shouldn't be jealous. Jealous is a bad thing and you deserve someone who loves you fully, Damon. Just because Elena doesn't, doesn't mean that some other girl won't. Trust me, i've been there, had my heart broken and torn to bits and pieces, but trust me when I say this, some day someone will love you for who you are."

He cleared his throat. "Okay, time to go." He got into the passenger seat making me sigh. I git into the backseat and so did Elena, Alaric being in the drivers seat.

🔅🔅🔅

"How are you two doing back there?" Damon questioned as I had my head laid on the car window, looking at the passing trees. "You know, this all pretending to hate me thing is getting a little silly."

Alaric scoffed. "I don't think they're pretending. You did kill Elena's brother and Spencer's cousin."

"There is a huge asterisk next to that statement: he came back to life." Damon pointed out. "Plus, Spencer talked to me when she said she wouldn't."

"Just because I was giving you advice doesn't mean anything. I'm just a nice person, unlike you." I shot at him, rolling my big brown doe eyes.

"Yeah, thanks to a ring you didn't know he was wearing." Elena fired at him and I smirked at her confidence.

"Why are you so sure I didn't know?"

"Did you?" I fired at him, lifting my head from the window so I was looking at him.

Damon paused for a second, rolling his eyes. "Yes." He smiled falsely.

"You're lying." Elena and I spoke in unison. I looked back at the window again.

"Elena, Spencer, I saw the ring! It's a big tacky thing, it's hard to miss."

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes.

🔅🔅🔅

"So–" Alaric started as we got out of the car and approached the building. "–Isobel was officially employed by the anthropology department given that most paranormal phenomenon has rounded in folklor." We walked inside, being met by a woman. "Excuse me, hi. I'm Alaric Saltzman, I called earlier."

"Yes, of course. I'm Vanessa Monroe, research assistant compare to folklore." She looked strangely at Elena which made me stand protectively in front of her. "Uh, let me just grab Isobel's keys."

"These are my friends Elena, Spencer and Damon. I hope this isn't too much of an imposition." Alaric introduced us to Vanessa.

"Oh please, Isobel's office is right through there." She started going through a drawer. "Isobel's was one of my first professors." She gave us all a look. "I'm a grad student, she was brilliant and one of the reasons I went to folklore." She looked to Alaric. "Uh I have to ask, has it been any news?"

"No, I'm afraid not."

"It's this way." She opened Isobel's office door, we followed and entered the room. "I'll grab the light, feel free to look around. It's fascinating isn't it?" She left the room and we looked around the room.

"Where did she go?" Damon questioned as Vanessa came back with a crossbow and shot an arrow on Elena but Damon sped himself in front of Elena to protect her. He received the arrow in his back. I stormed forward and pushed her against the wall, hitting the crossbow out of her reach.

🔅🔅🔅

"Pull it out. I can't reach it Elena." Damon demanded Elena who kept hesitating to pull the arrow out. "Just pull the damn thing out. It hurts." As Elena hesitated again, I quickly grabbed the arrow and pulled it out, making Damon hiss in pain. "That bitch is dead."

"You're not gonna kill her." Elena told him, sending him a look.

"Watch me." He went to move forward when Elena and I blocked his path.

"You touch her and I swear I will never speak to you again." Elena threatened which made me roll my eyes.

"What makes you think that has any power over me? Because I took an arrow in the back for you? You're so overestimating yourself." Damon told her and I scoffed.

"If you kill her Damon, I will kill you." I stepped forward, a glare set on my features. "If you so much as touch a single hair on her head, i'll tie you up with bear traps, feed you vervain and then i'll cut you, over and over again until you can barely move. Then and only then will I stab you with a stake." He narrowed his eyes at me, trying to tell if I was telling the truth or not.

"Right. I forgot that we were speaking to a psychotic mind who snaps and kills people impulsively." Elena fired, bringing Damon's attention to her. "Fine, go ahead, do whatever you want."

"You're trying to manipulate me." Damon accused us.

"If by "manipulate" you mean "tell the truth" okay, guilty." She gave him one last look before we went to the room in which Alaric was speaking to Vanessa. "I'm Elena Gilbert, Isobel's daughter and a descendant of Katherine Pierce. This is Spencer Stilinski, my cousin and this is Damon Salvatore who you just shot." She introduced us to Vanessa who was giving us weary looks.

"I'd be extra nice to me right now." Damon told her.

"Me too because you just shot at my cousin." I crossed my arms, glaring.

"Look, we need your help okay? We need to see all of Isobel's research, anything related to Mystic Falls."

🔅🔅🔅

Vanessa walked towards us with a box. "This box checks Katherine's arrival to Mystic Falls in April 1864."

"Is that all there is about her?" I questioned as I looked in the box, my hand grazing a herb in which I realized was vervain.

"All that I'm aware of." I glanced back at Damon and handed the vervain to Vanessa. "Does vervein really work?" She asked me and I nodded.

"Nope, not at all." Damon commented which made me rolled my eyes. Elena sighed, also rolling her eyes.

"Can he hear us?"

"No, that would be creepy." Damon whispered loud enough for us to hear. I rose my eyebrows and nodded.

"Can he read minds too?"

"You know, if you want to see me naked, all you have to do is ask."

"No," I gave Damon a look who was looking at us. "–that he can't do. But, he is very capable of being a first grade jackass." I paused, shaking my head, remember Jackson, the guy who broke my heart and went after Lydia when we were dating in the 8th grade. "Never mind, there is only one Jackass and he lives in my hometown. Damon is a close second though."

🔅🔅🔅

"Any luck?" Damon questioned, approaching us.

"There's nothing in here about Katherine that we don't already know." Elena told him.

"Ah, you know, it's a bummer we're not friends anymore because I could tell you what I know." He told her, a smug look on his face.

"Now who's manipulating who?" I questioned, crossing my arms. "For the record, I don't like being manipulated and I don't like those who manipulate those I love."

"Hey guys, check this out." Alaric called out, showing us a book.

"There's no record of werewolf mythology in Mystic Falls but here are some records of some the lesser known legends. Everything from Scandinavian skin walkers to Aztecs legends." Vanessa explained, giving us a book with drawings. "It's translate into the "curse of the sun and the moon."

"It's Native American." Alaric told us.

"Aztecs." I corrected, a huge grin on my face. I got looks from the others. "What? I like wolves." I shrugged. "It explains one origin of the werewolf curse traced through Virginia. The short story: 600 years ago, the Aztecs were plagued by werewolves and vampires. They terrorized the countryside, made farming and hunting impossible until an Aztec shaman cursed them, making vampires slaves to the sun and werewolves servants of the moon." I pointed to a picture in the book. "As a result, vampires could only prowl at night and werewolves could only turn on a full moon. When the full moon is crossing the sky, who's ever unlucky enough to fall into the werewolves curse turns into a wolf."

"Can they control the transformation?" Damon asked me, slightly surprised in how much I knew about this.

"If it were a choice, it wouldn't be called a curse." I told him simply, looking back at him. "Werewolves will attack humans but instinct and centuries of rivalry have hardware them to hunt their prey's choice: vampires."

"Well, if werewolves were hunting vampires, I would know about it." Damon told ms smugly.

"Not if they aren't many werewolves left alive." Vanessa told him, coming out of her state of shock of me knowing this stuff. "Hundreds of years ago vampires hunted them almost to extinction."

"Why would they do that?"

"To protect themselves. According to the legend, a werewolf bite is fatal to the vampires."

🔅🔅🔅

Elena was looking at a picture of Katherine when I approached her. "Hey, have you done any research on doppelgängers?" She asked Vanessa.

"The word means a lot of different things to different cultures but typically a doppelganger is a living, breathing double of oneself." I answered before Vanessa could. Everyone looked up at me with curious eyes. "What? When I can't sleep, I do research." I shrugged. "I have a lot of information up here–" I pointed to my head. "–thanks to many nights researching." I looked to Elena, sighing. "Unfortunately Elena, doppelgängers usually torment the people they look like, trying to undue their lives."

"I want to know why we look alike." Elena told me, a sad but determined look in her eyes.

"Head scratcher isn't it?" Damon questioned, smirking.

"Do you know something or are you just being yourself?" Elena asked him, about done with his bullshit.

"Well, if I know anything, I'm not gonna tell you with that attitude." He told her, still smirking.

"That's good, Damon and this is coming from someone who wants to be my friend but you know what? Friends don't manipulate friends, they help each other."

🔅🔅🔅

I walked into my bedroom, closing the door behind me. I plopped down onto my bed face first, a loud sigh leaving my lips before I rolled over and looked up at the ceiling. I pushed my hair out of my face, my eyes wanting to close with tiredness but I forced myself to sit up. I grabbed my laptop from where it laid on my pillow and opened it, going to google where I typed in the word: Doppelgänger. My eyes grazing the screen, going over every word, trying to figure out any information for Elena.

Do you guys like Spencer's personality? Is she too mean?

Also, I gotta rant about Bonnie. In my opinion, she was being a bitch for the last episode and this one. Just because Caroline was turned against her will and doesn't want to die, that does not give her the right to be a bitch. Now, don't get me wrong. I love Bonnie, but she does get on my nerves sometimes. I really hope Bonnie lovers don't hate me for this.

Anywho, I seriously can't wait until Klaus shows up, and even Elijah because I feel like Spencer and him should be Brotp. Who else would like that? What about Damon? Should I make them Brotp as well? I really want to know your opinion.
