Sunday
The morning light shone through the kitchen window, casting a cozy glow over the neatly set table. The smell of fresh toast and coffee filled the air as Jaehyun, Woonhak, and Jaehyun's mom sat down for breakfast. It was a calm Sunday morning, and the world outside felt quiet and still.
Jaehyun kept sneaking glances at Woonhak, who sat beside him. He couldn't help it -his boyfriend looked adorable, his hair slightly messy from sleep, his cheeks still pink from the warmth of the room. Jaehyun's chest swelled with affection as he passed Woonhak the jar of raspberry jam.
"Thanks," Woonhak said softly, their fingers brushing for a moment as he took the jar.
Jaehyun's mom, seated across from them, observed the two boys closely. She noticed the way they leaned slightly toward each other, how their smiles lingered a little too long, and the glances they thought were subtle but weren't at all.
She had her suspicions for a few days now, ever since she caught them exchanging shy smiles during dinner earlier in the week. But today, the way they acted made it almost undeniable.
Finally, as she sipped her coffee, she cleared her throat. "Is there something you two would like to share with me?" she asked, her voice calm but laced with curiosity. Her eyes twinkled knowingly as they flickered between the two boys.
Jaehyun froze, his chopsticks halfway to his mouth. His mom's tone was casual, but he could tell she already knew. Woonhak stiffened beside him, his eyes darting toward Jaehyun in silent panic.
Jaehyun took a deep breath. There was no point in hiding it -his mom wasn't just guessing; she already knew. Slowly, under the table, he reached for Woonhak's hand, squeezing it gently in reassurance.
Looking up, he met his mom's eyes with a steady gaze. "Mom... Woonhak and I are together," he said simply, his voice steady despite the slight flutter of nerves in his chest.
For a moment, there was silence. Then his mom's face broke into a wide smile. "I knew it!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together.
Both boys blinked, startled by her enthusiastic reaction.
"I've had a feeling for days now," she continued, her voice brimming with joy. "The way you two look at each other -it's so obvious." She reached across the table, her hand resting over theirs. "I'm so happy for you both. Really."
Jaehyun felt relief wash over him, his shoulders relaxing. "Thanks, Mom," he said, his voice soft but filled with gratitude.
Beside him, Woonhak managed a shy smile. "Thank you," he echoed, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jaehyun's mom beamed at them. "I'm just glad you told me. You're both so precious to me, and seeing you happy makes me happy too."
Jaehyun looked over at Woonhak, their hands still intertwined beneath the table. The warmth in his mother's words made his heart swell. This wasn't just about them being together -it was about being accepted and loved for who they were.
"Now," his mom said, her tone suddenly playful, "tell me -how did it happen? Who confessed first?"
There we go again...
Jaehyun groaned, his face flushing bright red. "Mom!"
Woonhak laughed softly, the sound light and genuine. "It's a long story," he said, his eyes sparkling.
"Well, I've got all morning," she said, winking at them.
