The sun stood bright in the sky, bathing the park in a golden light, the breeze carrying the fresh scent of spring blooms. Jaehyun and Woonhak strolled side by side, Japchae trotting happily ahead of them, the golden dog's tail wagging as he sniffed the grass. The soft rustling of leaves and distant laughter of children playing on the playground nearby filled the quiet space between them.
Jaehyun's heart thudded a little faster than usual. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, his fingers brushing against the smooth surface of a small, folded note. He felt its presence like a secret weight, both comforting and nerve-wracking.
Woonhak walked a little closer than usual, their shoulders occasionally brushing. He seemed relaxed, his eyes bright as he watched Japchae dash after a butterfly. Jaehyun couldn't help but smile at the sight-at the way the sunlight kissed Woonhak's chestnut hair, turning it a soft shade of golden.
After a while, they reached their favorite bench under a large oak tree by the little pond. Jaehyun gestured for Woonhak to sit, his heart pounding harder now.
"Let's take a break," Jaehyun said, trying to sound casual.
Woonhak nodded and plopped down, stretching out his legs as he looked up at Jaehyun. "You okay, Hyunnie-hyung?" He tilted his head slightly, a teasing smile on his lips. "You look like you're about to give a big speech or something."
Jaehyun chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his neck. "Maybe I am."
Woonhak's eyes widened a little, the teasing glint replaced by curiosity. "What's on your mind?"
Jaehyun took a deep breath and sat down beside him. He pulled his hands from his pockets, his fingers fidgeting for a moment before he turned to face Woonhak. Their knees brushed, grounding him a bit.
"Woonie," Jaehyun started, his voice soft. "I've been thinking a lot lately... about us."
Woonhak's eyes searched Jaehyun's face, a hint of nervousness slipping into his expression. "What about us?"
Jaehyun exhaled slowly, gathering his courage. "I know we said we liked each other, and that we'd figure things out together. And we have, I think. But..." He hesitated for a second, then reached into his pocket and pulled out the folded note. "I guess I wanted to make it official."
Woonhak blinked, his eyes darting to the note in Jaehyun's hand. "Official?" he echoed, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jaehyun swallowed, his cheeks flushing slightly. "Yeah. I don't just want to be someone who 'likes you more than a friend.' I want to be..." He held out the note with trembling fingers. "Umm, I wrote this for you."
Woonhak's eyes shimmered with emotion as he took the note. With careful hands, he unfolded the paper and read the short message Jaehyun had poured his heart into:
I've been thinking about you, about us, a lot.
I want to wake up with you by my side every morning for the rest of my life. I want to make you your favorite food every day. I want to go on dates with you. I want to tell people that we belong together, to eachother.
I want to be by your side, not just as a 'friend who likes you', but as someone who cares about you even more.
Woonhak, will you be my boyfriend?
You don't have to answer right away, but I really hope you'll say yes :)
A small, surprised laugh escaped Woonhak's lips, his eyes welling up. He looked up at Jaehyun, cheeks flushed, his smile radiant. "You're really asking me like this?"
Jaehyun rubbed his neck sheepishly. "I wanted it to be special... and maybe I didn't have the guts to just ask you normally," he admitted.
Woonhak chuckled as he carefully folded the note back up. He met Jaehyun's gaze, his eyes shining with warmth. "It is special." He smiled softly. "And yes, Hyunnie. I'd love to be your boyfriend."
Relief and joy flooded Jaehyun's chest. He let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding and broke into a wide grin. "Really?"
Woonhak laughed, his eyes crinkling. "Really."
Jaehyun let out an overjoyed sound and pulled the younger boy into a tight hug. Woonhak's arms wrapped around him instantly, his head resting on Jaehyun's shoulder. They stayed like that for a moment, the world fading away around them.
When they finally pulled back, Jaehyun's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Does this mean I can call you my boyfriend now?"
Woonhak rolled his eyes playfully but couldn't hide the blush on his cheeks. "I guess it does."
Jaehyun grinned and grabbed Woonhak's hand, intertwining their fingers. "Come on, let's go find Japchae before he decides to run off."
