Chapter 36

Victoire Weasley

Only a month left at school. Victoire was starting to freak out about her N.E.W.T. Exams. One day she was rushing off from her charms class to her lunch block, but instead of going to the Great Hall, she made a beeline for the library. She wasn't surprised to see Dorcas already in the Library, studying away, but what did shock her, just a little, was who she was with.

Dorcas was sitting with a pretty seventh year Hufflepuff girl by the name of Chasity Figg. Younger sister to the semi famous Squibb, Arabella Figg.

While working, Dorcas smiled at something Chasity said. She looked rather happy. Randomly, she seemed to look up to ponder whatever question she was trying to answer. Her eyes lazily stroked over the walls of the library. When she spotted Victoire, her face dropped to a little scared. Slowly and carefully, Victoire approached their table.

"Hi." She waved lamely. She let her hand fall down to her side and her shoulders hunch.

"Vic, hi, you here to study to?" Dorcas asked

"Yeah,"

"Do you want to join us?" Chasity asked her.

"Oh I'd love to... but.. I just remembered I promised to meet Teddy for lunch." she sent Dorcas a discreet wink. "Rain check, though. Thanks though Chasity."

"See ya later, Vic." Dorcas smiled. She looked a little grateful.

Victoire did end up eating with Teddy. Her lie turning into the truth. The day rolled on. Vic made sure to study during any break where she wasn't doing assigned course work or right before the teacher started the lesson for the class. After classes were over for the day, however, Dorcas caught Victoire in the hallway and dragged her into an empty an empty classroom to interrogate her.

"I don't know what you think you saw in the library today, but it's not what you think." she said very quickly.

"I don't know what I saw either." she said with a smile that obviously meant otherwise to the words she spoke.

"Does it work out?" Dorcas asked "Between me and her I mean?" She was infatuated with the girl. You could tell by the look in her eyes when Chasity was mentioned.

"I want to lie to you so bad Cas, but I think we both know the answer to be no." Any hope that remained in Dorcas' face fled. "It's not just the fact that you die, but it's the 70s, Cas. People just aren't as accepting of LGBTQA relationships as in 2015. Even then, some people are jerks about it." Victoire hated herself at the look on her friend's face. Dorcas was girly but tough. She was an insane beater fro the Gryffindor team and threatened to beat up anyone who threatened her friends. But here, standing in from of Victoire, she looked broken. Heartbroken. "I'm sorry Dorcas." Vic whispered.

A few tears spilled from Dorcas' face. Victoire wrapped her arms around her. "At least things are better for the future." Dorcas whispered back. Her voice broke and a small sob escaped through her lips.

For the rest of the evening, Dorcas seemed robotic. She stared at whatever object was in front of her, it took multiple tried to get her to respond when saying her name, and when she did respond her answers were often one word. She ended up heading to bed early and not speaking with anyone until late the next day.

She spoke to Chasity. The person she loved the most. Who loved her the most. The person she could never be with.

Dorcas thought drastically in terms of them being together. She thought less of living past twenty and more to being able to kiss the person she wanted to. A plan formed in her mind. A crazy plan that could wind up being fatal to the two did they not pull it off.

"We should run away." she burst out to Chasity once they were alone.

"Run away? Why would we do that?" a playful smile danced on Chasity's lips

"So we can be together." Dorcas eyes pleaded that she would feel the same and want the same. "So that we can love each other and no one will judge us for it. We can graduate and then move away, somewhere far, where they don't care if I'm kissing a woman."

"Dorcas, what brought this on? I thought you were happy just being here with me."

"I am, I really am," Dorcas heart started to flutter. "but don't you want more? Don't you want to be able to get married one day?"

"Of course I want that!" Chasity almost seemed mad "I want that more than anything in this world, but I'd want it more if we could have our friend's and family to be happy with us."

"Chassy, this is the 1970s, almost no one accepts us; I know for a fact that mum wouldn't like this, but I care more about you than an old woman's opinion."

"You say '70s' like you hope it'll change."

"I know it'll change, love. I have faith in humanity."

"You really want to do this?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Then so do I." The two beamed.

The rest of their weekend day, they sat, forgotten, in a quiet corner of the library dreaming up things they could do in their future. They dreamed of their little house, of the pets they would have, of the kids they would adopt. When they finally parted ways that evening, Dorcas walked back to the common room with a smile on her face and a skip in her step. All seemed it would end well with Dorcas and her love.

(A/N: Hi. I hope you like this chapter. Btw, if you have any hate towards this chapter and the LGBTQA relationship featured in it, I highly recommend you comment your distaste to it so I can use on of the many roasts I have lined up against you. As a member of said community myself, I will shut you down faster than a restaurant with bugs and rats in the kitchen. With that said, enjoy! -Jul the Queer)
