Friends are still friends even if they're dead

(3rd Person PoV)

For as long as he could remember, Yuga could see ghosts.

He could also have conversations with them but he was never close to any of them.

And the ghosts that he did see wanted nothing to do with him other than help to pass on to the afterlife.

It was until one day after he invented and installed Rush Dueling in every duel disk made by Goha, a ghost made his appearance to him and stuck around longer.

Yuga had walked back to his lab to see a card sitting on his desk. It wasn't a card that he owned and upon further examination, he realized that it was a card of legend.

The legendary Stardust Dragon.

Did someone leave that here? Yuga thought but that couldn't be! He locked his lab and only he had the keys to it. And there were no signs of any lock picking.

"Hey," a voice said and Yuga jumped.

"Who's there?" He asked.

And then he saw him.

A tall figure with spikey hair and wore a jacket.

Yuga could tell that he was a ghost due to the transparency of the figure.

"Oh another one. You need help with something? Something to pass on?" Yuga asked, already expecting the drill to help out the ghost.

However, this ghost was different.

He tilted his head and asked, "Something to pass on?"

"Yeah to move on to the afterlife. That's what most ghosts need me for," Yuga said.

The ghost looked at him, confused.

"I don't understand. I just woke up somewhere and wandered off. I left something very precious behind though and I was looking for it," he explained.

"Ah, would that be this," Yuga held up the card.

"Stardust Dragon! Yes, I was looking for that," the ghost nodded.

Yuga was about to give it to him before he remembered two very important things.

One, the card was solid and he was unsure if the ghost could even pick it up.

And two, as his mother told him that a human and a ghost must not touch humanly things at the same time.

He doesn't particularly know the reason why but he suspects that the ghost must stick by his side and is connected to his soul until the ghost passes on.

Unfortunately, looks like no one told the ghost that as he reached for his card.

"Hey wait!" Yuga cried out but it was too late.

As soon as the ghost touched the card, a large silvery glow appeared which blinded the two.

Yuga felt something heavy on his chest and held his free hand to grip onto where his heart would be.

Then he suddenly saw flashes of something. It was from a isolated and mysterious wasteland with junkyards everywhere and people with strange markers on their faces.

Suddenly it stopped and Yuga no longer felt that heavy feeling on his chest.

The ghost looked confused and concerned.

"What was that?" He asked.

Yuga sighed and looked at the card.

"Looks like you're now connected to my soul until you pass on," he explained.

"Wait connected? What do you mean?" The ghost asked.

"It means that you have to stick by my side, I don't know why we are connected though. My mom never told me that," Yuga replied.

"Does that mean I can't leave your side?" The ghost asked.

"You can do some degree. Like if I'm at school and I don't want you floating around near me too much, you can go and hang around outside the classroom. You can't go to another city without me though," Yuga explained.

The ghost then looked around Yuga's lab and then he looked at him again.

"So which city am I in?" He asked.

"You're in Goha City. Charming place if you don't count the many drones pestering you about questionable rules," Yuga explained.

"Goha City? This is bad, I have to get back to Neo Domino City!" The ghost exclaimed.

"Neo Domino City?! But that's miles away from here! Wait so how did you get here? Most ghosts don't float around places that they never been to," Yuga said.

"It's...a long story. I don't even how I or Stardust got here," the ghost explained.

"Ooookay then...so since we're stuck together, might as well tell you my name. I'm Yuga," Yuga said.

He hoped that the ghost remembered his own name. Most ghosts aren't like that.

Thankfully he was lucky this time.

"Yusei. My name is Yusei," the ghost said.

And so, Yuga had Yusei following around him throughout his adventures to make Rush Duels known!

Yuga thought that he could only have one ghost connected to his soul.

He didn't know that he could have two.

Yuga and his friends were at this lonely ramen place. A new restaurant has opened up and the ramen place were stripped away from customers.

So Yuga decided to have that ramen place's last bowl of ramen.

Just as he was about to pay for it, some other guy came in and ordered for that last bowl of ramen.

In order to settle this, the two of them decided to have a rush duel!

Yusei, who was mainly floating around in a daze, suddenly snapped back to reality as soon as the duel was happening.

He has seen a Rush Duel before and was surprised when he first found out that it was Yuga who invented the format.

Even though he shouldn't be since he first met Yuga in his lab. So much smarts for an 11 year old.

"Be careful, Yuga. You don't know what type of strategy he might use," Yusei warned him.

"Don't worry, I got this," Yuga said, quietly. No one else could see Yusei so it would be weird to see Yuga talking to himself so whenever he does talk to Yusei in public, it's usually very quietly.

The ramen guy introduced himself as Saburamen and that he came from a far away land just to get a taste of the most delicious bowl of ramen!

Yuga also loves ramen and he will duel his hardest for that bowl of ramen.

After a long and intense duel, Yuga managed to win but also win the respect of Saburamen.

They could have shared the bowl of ramen...if it wasn't for Luke who came in and ate the whole bowl up.

The two of them weren't happy.

Despite this, the owner of the ramen shop got inspired by the duel between Saburamen and Yuga that he decided that he won't close shop and that he'll make new bowls of ramen.

After that, Yuga and his friends decided to say goodbye to Saburamen and were about to head home.

"Oh yeah! I found this awesome cool card!" Luke held up a card.

"Firewall Dragon? What type of monster is that?" Romin asked.

"That's one of the most powerful monsters out there! And it's a Link monster as well," Yuga explained.

"Where did you find this?" Gakuto asked.

"I found it in the trash. How dare someone throw away this awesome card!" Luke sounded offended.

"Can I hold it? Please?" Yuga asked.

"Because I am so nice, you may," Luke said and Yuga grabbed it.

"I never seen a type of monster like that," Yusei noted.

"Well the Cyberse deck is brand new. Only few people have that deck. It's so rare," Yuga whispered.

"I see," Yusei said.

"Hey...give it back," a voice said.

Yuga turned around to see another ghost.

While older than Yuga and his friends, this ghost appeared to be younger than Yusei. Around the age of a high schooler.

"Uhh Yuga? Why did you turn around like that?" Gakuto asked.

"Ah sorry. I thought I heard something," Yuga apologized.

"Another ghost. Who are you?" Yusei asked but the ghost didn't reply.

"That's my card. Give it back, it's important to me," the ghost said.

"I would but...," Yuga trailed off and glanced at his friends.

How would he explain this?

"Just give my card back to me. I...I need it," the ghost said and went to grab the card.

As soon as he touched that card, the same silvery glow that binded Yusei and Yuga appeared.

Yuga then saw flashes of images. Rivers of code and people on boards dueling. It was in a city but people looked like they were wearing avatars like in a video game.

Time seemed to slow down when the glow stopped.

"Are you ok, Yuga?" Romin asked.

"Y-yeah. Uhh, Luke? Can I take a closer look at this card in my lab? Just so I can make sure that this isn't fake," Yuga said.

"Huh why?" Luke asked.

"Well you did say that you found this in the trash. Who knows if it's real or not," Gakuto agreed with Yuga.

"Ok fine but return it to me at school," Luke stated.

"Ok ok bye!" Yuga then ran off.

The two ghosts followed him.

At his lab, Yuga then began to freak out.

"Oh gosh! Oh gosh! Oh gosh! I have two ghosts connected to my soul! What in the world is happening?!" He cried as he paced around nervously.

"Yuga, take a deep breath. We'll figure this out," Yusei assured him.

The new ghost just awkwardly looked at some stuff that Yuga had lying around.

Yuga took Yusei's advice and he felt a bit calmer.

"Ok...I have a new ghost connected to my soul. And you are both connected to these cards," Yuga started.

"Stardust Dragon is my Ace and has importance to me. I probably suspect that it's the same for him," Yusei suggested.

"Maybe. Hey, is this your card?" Yuga asked and held up the card so the ghost can see it.

"Yeah. Now can I have it back?" The ghost asked.

"Well I don't think you can pick it up. Because Yusei here couldn't," Yuga told him and motioned to Yusei who waved.

"Damn...I have to leave now," the ghost said.

"Whoa whoa! You can't leave," Yuga got in front of the ghost while waving his arms around.

"Give me three reasons why," The ghost folded his arms.

"Wait, three?" Yuga asked and the ghost nodded.

"Umm ok...well you can't leave because it's physically impossible for you to go long distances by yourself because you're connected to my soul. Another reason is because you haven't introduced yourself to me and that's rude and the last reason is because...," Yuga struggled on the third reason.

Thankfully, Yusei came to his rescue.

"We have been trying to figure out how to undo this connection and pass on. So you need to stick around for that," he explained.

The ghost's arms went to his side and he looked at the two of them as if he was analyzing them.

"So until you figure out how to undo this, I can go and leave to where I need to go?" He asked.

"I guess?" Yuga wasn't quite sure what other business does this ghost have.

"Fine. I guess I'm staying them but don't you dare give my card to that kid," the ghost told him.

"Well I need to give an excuse for it...," Yuga murmured.

"Well then," Yusei clasped his hands together, "might as well introduce ourselves to you. I'm Yusei."

"And I'm Yuga!" Yuga waved.

"My name is Yusaku. I suppose it's nice to meet you," Yusaku shrugged.

Thus, Yuga has two ghosts following him around.
