Ride 22 on 66
Ride 22 on 66 is the brainchild of author Renee Jean. It is a 22 day bike ride along Route 66, beginning in Chicago and ending in California, that she will undertake beginning in September of this year. The goal of the ride is to bring awareness to those coping with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. This ride is the final culmination of her Sharing Strength book series and her drive to bring awareness to all those who suffer with this condition, no matter their walk of life.
I had the honor of creating covers for nearly all of the books in the series and sharing this journey with her through that work. Renee is driven and focused and has been training for this ride for several years now. It is an undertaking near and dear to her heart and the work she is putting into this ride is phenomenal. Nearly all the costs associated with the ride thus far have come out of her pocket, from new equipment better suited to a ride like this, to lights to alert drives to her whereabouts on the road, to food, gas, hotel stays along the route, and racks for the top of her follow vehicle to carry supplies. It is a huge undertaking. You'll find two links on her website, one to help support the costs associated with the ride itself and another to help support her chosen charities. There will be no monetary profit for her, this ride is all for charity. All the money collected through the charity donation link goes to the charities and anything donated through the ride support link will go to the expenses associated with the ride. Anything collected above those expenses will be divided among the charities and donated.

These are the charities the ride will help to support:
National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
RAINN - Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network
Code Green Campaign
Mission 22
Suicide Prevention Lifeline
This is what Renee had to say about the ride when I asked her what it means to her to be doing this - I know it is a cliché but it feels like it means everything to me. As someone diagnosed with PTSD I know how difficult it can feel to find resources and how alone it can feel. These organizations do such an incredible job assisting people like me and I want to make sure more people know they and others like them exist if they need help.
I am honored to call this amazing woman my friend. I can't imagine undertaking an event like this. The work involved is overwhelming. You can find information about the ride and the charities on her website, as well as the links to donate.
