Ooo, so talented ...
People don't seem to realize the work a lot of graphic designers put into their designs. How long it takes to create something like a proper manip cover. Either that or they're rude and don't give a shit about our hard work.
There are covers that have taken me a minimum of three or fours hours to complete. HOURS. From searching for images, to finding the right font, to carefully piecing everything together so it appears as a coherent and cohesive cover. It is a lot of hard work and the end result isn't simply a cover, it's something from our heart and soul. It is a piece of us.
I've seen people request a design then when it's delivered they ask the designer a thousand questions about it. What the font is, where the background came from, and on and on. This happens especially with groups who are planning to have a theme to their profile. They get one cover created, dissect it and then make the rest so they don't have to request from the designer again. There are people who get offended when you tell them you use photoshop because it isn't free so they can't use it to copy your design work.
I said it before and I'll say it again, no graphic designer who is worth anything EVER uses Canva to create their designs. Canva is a plug 'n play platform full of templates that you fill in. Their end resolution is crap because it's usually web resolution. It is not a true graphic design site. It is meant for the masses to use so they don't have to learn to design. For those who can't afford to pay a designer to create something for them. Kids who need a graphic for a school project. It was not designed for a true graphic designer to use.
Unless you can create the design from scratch, from the beginning to the end, then you aren't designing a damn thing.
It takes hard work and talent to be able to create the designs we make. I've been designing for ten years. TEN YEARS. Think on that, because some of you were probably in diapers when I began learning to design. It has taken me a long time to get to the level I'm at. And I did it on my own for the most part, with some help from other designers and a lot of YouTube tutorials. If I could afford to go to school then I'd get a degree, but I can't afford that. Still, I work hard to learn new things and create epic designs.
To have someone request something then turn around and use it to create their own work so they don't have to bother with you is hurtful. If my designs are pretty enough you want to rip them off, why not simply request from me and get the real thing? What do you gain by ripping off my work? It's rude to ask a designer to make you something with the sole intention of basically telling them to screw off once you get your paws on the graphic.
If you like a designer's work then let them create things for you. Trust me, the payments here on Wattpad are cheap in comparison to what you might pay for a cover for publication. Those can cost anywhere from $200 to over $500, or more depending on who the designer is. So a follow or chapter read is cheap and well worth it in the end.
If you appreciate talent then show it. Don't be a douche.
