I tried (for the second time) to watch the new MacGyver show and once again I couldn't do it. As a fan of the original show I spent most of my time yelling at the screen, "That isn't how it is!".

They murdered the essence of the show. It's all so wrong and I can't watch it. About the only thing that's the same is his name and he knows a guy named Jack Dalton (Dalton had a completely different personality in the original show and he was never Mac's partner, he was an old friend who would pop in on occasion with his next get rich quick scheme and rope Mac into helping him, usually by lying about the real reason he was there).

Mac worked alone for the most part. He wasn't part of a team and he didn't work for DXS, he worked for the Phoenix Foundation. His boss was a guy named Pete, not a woman and despite being an older, slightly over weight guy he kicked ass. Which was awesome to see because it showed how capable a person can be no matter their appearance or age.

Mac hated his first name and whenever anyone asked his name he would always say, "MacGyver" or "Mac". No one knew his first name until halfway through the final season of the show and even after his name was revealed, he stuck to not telling anyone what it was because he hated it. 

I'm not against remakes of shows (or books), but when you massacre the essence of what the show is I can't get onboard with it. The original MacGyver show was epic and this one didn't do it justice. Lucas Till was a good choice to play Mac, but that's about the only good thing I can say about it. I was excited back when they announced they were remaking the show because I was a huge fan of the original, but it was a huge disappointment and I couldn't even make it through the first episode.
