Chapter 13 - Fire on Fire

Clay's POV

Clay finally lay down in his cave after a long day of teaching students and looking after the school. There had been fighting over food, missing scrolls and many other things to deal with. It was actually quite tiring.

Before he went to sleep, Clay planned to visit Peril. He had seen her as she dashed about the school, a very panicked look on her face. Clay hadn't had time to talk to her though: As soon as she entered one corridor she left.

Starflight lifted his head
"How was teaching, Clay?" The blind dragon asked, pricking his ears. He had his talons over Clay and Peril's egg, and his tail wrapped firmly around it.

"Good. How is the egg?"

Starflight flicked his tail.

"It sort of radiates heat. I wonder if that's from Peril..." Starflight shook his head, "I'm not sure though." Starflight re-adjusted his talons.

"Is it beautiful?" He asked.

"It is," Clay said. Starflight lifted his snout, prompting Clay to give a description.

"Well, it's a soft tawny brown colour, the colour of my underscales at the bottom" Clay explained, "And has swirls of orange and red, like fire." Starflight nodded slightly.

"From what I imagine, it looks amazing," Starflight said after a moment, standing up and spreading one wing, "How much longer should I look after it?"

"A bit longer, please," Said Clay, also standing up, "I need to see Peril. She looked... not great when I saw her."

Starflight curled his tail once more around the egg, and Clay left the cave, walking along the almost silent corridors.

The three moons glistened with a serene light in the sky. Stars speckled it, and winked at him, as if  to say everything was going to be alright.
Clay saw Moonwatcher and Qibli sitting out in the stars, and he felt happiness flutter inside him. They looked so peaceful, just soaking in the calming moonlight.

Eventually, Clay reached Peril's cave. He wasn't sure weather to expect to find her sleeping or awake, but she was the latter.

"Hi Clay," She said in a rush, "Could you help me with something?"

"Of course," Clay replied, brushing his wing with her. He could see a small spark of delight on Peril's face.

"Um, this might sound weird, and disturbing, but I need you to help clean up my blood."

"Your what?" Clay gasped, "What happened?"

"I think someone tried to attack me," Peril gestured her wing to a twisted, melted knife that gleamed with red blood. Peril also pointed to her thigh, which had a deep cut.

Clay leaned down, tracing his claw on the knife. Uncertainty gripped his scales.

"This is... not good, obviously," Clay murmured. He picked up a cloth (Moon had dropped it of, not thought about how Peril would use it and hurried to class) that was lying on the ground and mopped the red liquid, the blood shinning in the faint moonlight.

Peril caught his gaze, and Clay sat down next to her, twining his tail with hers. Peril leaned on Clay's shoulder, and Clay smiled, though the slight pain of Peril's scales fizzled. He was used to it now - since he had spent lots of time with the Firescales dragon, his fire proof scales had become stronger and more resistant.

"I'm so glad you're here," Peril whispered, holding his talons in a soft grip, "It really means the world to me," Clay gazed into Peril's beautiful eyes, powerful emotion seized him, and he smiled.

"I love you too, Peril."

Time slowed down.

The two dragons looked deeply into each other's eyes.

And they kissed.

Peril's POV

Peril was stilling smiling to herself, though Clay had left a while ago. They had decided that Clay would look after the egg again tonight, and Peril was glad he was; it would be more safe with all the Dragonets of Destiny protecting it.

Darkness pressed against Peril's scales, and quiet wove around her. There was a soft rustling, but Peril didn't hear it.

Something cool slid onto Peril's scales, and it didn't burn. Peril blinked and then got bashed across the snout.

Peril shot up in a flash, and something rammed into her chest, knocking the air out of her lungs. She gasped and flared her wings, grappling her talons with the other dragon's.

'Why are my firescales not working?' Panic and confusing swept over Peril as she kicked her attackers underbelly. 'Why are they not burning?'

Roaring, cool claws slashed Peril's wings. Hissing with pain, Peril ducked under her attacker's underbelly, aiming for it. But the dragon stepped on Peril's tail and Peril stopped suddenly, getting pulled back. Snapping her jaws at the dragon, she wriggled free and leaped out of the cave, moonlight bathing over her scales.

And the dragon that came out of the cave behind her...

Was Crag.

AAAAAARRRRGGH!!!!!!

I'm so sorry I have't updated in ages!

Anyway, I think the 'It was Crag' was pretty obvious.

I am going to (hopefully and if I have time) post more chapters more quickly because there are like, maybe three or four plus an epilogue to go with this story.

ALSO I DON'T SHIP MOONBLI QINTER FOREVER
