Chapter 8
The morning came, with the sun sparkling in the sky like a giant yellow diamond.
You and the group had each packed a bag of their own, which the bags had been found in the remains of Crystilia.
You had hiked through the forest in the direction the scientists had pointed you in. It only took about fifteen minutes to get to the edge of a meadow, where you were now standing.
"Come on. What are we waiting for? It's just a plain meadow." Tiffany mumbled, but you knew some bad feeling was in the air, and everyone felt it.
You and the party start to walk across the bare meadow.
After a while, Jen starts to look a bit nervous.
You nudge her. "What's the matter?"
Jen says nothing, just points to one side of the meadow.
All you can see are shapes stalking towards you, but you realize what they are.
"Are those...?" You start to ask.
"Wolves!" Carly screamed.
Suddenly, as if triggered, the wolves started to barrel down the meadow, plowing through the wildflowers. They leaped, claws unsheathed.
You don't know exactly what was going on; it was all a blur, although you seem to be fine fighting off the wolf that attacked you. So was everyone else.
Except Kelly.
Kelly was backed up against a lone tree that had grown in the middle of the meadow. She was curled up in a ball, weakly kicking at the wolf that was at her throat.
Almost as instantly as it had started, the wolves abruptly backed away and sat, almost as if they were trained dogs being told to sit.
"What the...?" You mutter. You look at Kelly. On the makeshift string around Kelly's neck that you made out of grass, tied on the end, was Kelly's crystal. It was shining.
"It's the crystal," Jen whispered in awe. "She tamed the wolves."
Kelly wasn't moving. She hadn't even noticed that the wolves had stopped.
She was dying.
Then, something clicked in your mind.
"Jen! Use your crystal! You can save her!" You shout.
Jen glanced at you. Her face was full of fear. "I...I can't..." She sputtered.
"Yes, you can! Go!" You say, pushing her.
"No... she's going to die... like Vanessa did!" She yelled.
"Not if you use the crystal! Come on!" Lizzie shouted in encouragement.
Jen breathed in deeply and put her hand around her crystal.
A sower of green leaves surrounded Kelly. She eventually stopped bleeding, opened her eves, and sat up, blinking profusely.
"Thanks, Jen," Kelly croaked weakly. She slowly laid back down.
"Do we need to rest?" Amy asked, concerned.
"No. That magic just gives a little shock, that's all." Kelly said, slowly standing back up, using the tree as a crutch.
Matthias looked at the sun. "Well, if we keep going, we'll make it to Sarfia before nightfall."
You nod and start to trot through the rest of the meadow.
As Kelly started moving, the wolves stood up and followed.
The group was back on their feet.
