Chapter 3

The explosion itself looked beautiful: you couldn't deny that. The orange and yellow colors blinded you, but it was like a fireworks display.

Until it caused damage.

The damage was ugly. All the houses that seemed to be hidden from any outside force were broken, and ruins littered the ground. The wall that used to stand tall like a giant was now the equivalent to a mouse that could not defend itself.

And it all happened so quickly.

You stumbled away from the sharp metal debris and dust as flames engulfed any flammable objects.

Over to the left, you see people disappearing into the forest. Glancing behind you, and seeing the advancing flames, you think better of the situation and follow them.

You slip on fallen leaves as you desperately try to keep the people in view.

Eventually, the people stop, and you skid to a halt behind them.

"Hey...guys?" You whisper.

"Greenie!" You get surprised as Jen barreled through the few trees and hugged you. "I'm glad you're okay!"

"Please let go," You grumble.

Jen lets go and stares at you. "Are you okay?"

You nod. "Yeah." You look around. "Hey, who else is here?"

"You can take a look. I gotta go see how Vanessa is doing. She got wounded pretty bad," Jen said, running to a bush.

Over to the left, Jack and Kelly are trying to get a fire started. Carly, Matthias and Tiffany are studying a berry bush, arguing if it was poisonous or not. Pat, Amanda and Amy found an apple tree and are picking some of the apples. Lizzie is collapsed on the ground, panting.

Suddenly, you hear Jen shriek.

You dive under the bush where she disappeared. "What is...?" You start, but you're interrupted by what you see.

Vanessa lay in a pool of blood, Jen crying by her side. On the wounds were blood soaked cobwebs, but they clearly hadn't helped.

"She died! She died!" She yelled, tears slipping down her face.

This time, you wrap your arms around Jen.

Outside of the bush, everyone was kneeled on the ground, watching.

"Should we bury her?" Pat whispered.

Jen managed to nod as she curled up in a ball.

Matthias, Jack and Pat dragged Vanessa out from under the bush and grabbed sticks, starting to scrape at the ground.

The rest of the group went back to what they were doing.

Raindrops started to fall as Jen cried on.
