Chapter 1
You slowly wake up, rubbing your eyes while doing so.
Looking around, all you can see is trees spanning in every direction. They look a bit familiar to you... ah, yes, you think, these are the trees from Bluewood Forest.
You stand up. Your legs feel like jello, and you wonder how you got here. Checking your toolbelt, you feel your knife, but your back is bare, showing no signs of your bow.
"Dang," You mutter.
Suddenly, the blue tinted undergrowth starts to rustle. You quickly fumble for your knife, ready for what lurks in the depths of Bluewood.
"Greenie? Is that you?" A whisper sounds from behind a deep, night colored tree.
"Jen?" You whisper back.
"Greenie! There you are!" A tall, brown haired figure stepped out from behind the tree.
"You're still calling me that?" You ask, shaking your head.
"Pssh. Yeah! Why call you by your real name when I can call you Greenie?" Jen's green eyes sparkled, but then she frowned. "Where have you been?"
You shrug. "Honestly, I don't know."
"How do you not know?" Jen shouted exasperatedly.
You shake your head. "I literally just woke up here. I must have fainted or something."
Jen shrugged. " Well, let's just get you home."
You and Jen start to stumble out of the forest, tripping over tree roots as you go.
Eventually you make it back to Crystilia, the city where you live.
"Did I miss the meeting?" You ask.
"No. At least, not this time," She replied, winking.
You glare at her. "Come on, I haven't missed that many meetings! Just that one time..."
"How about when you got your foot stuck in the gutter?"
"Okay, twice then," You say, wrinkling your nose.
"And that time..." she started.
"Okay, okay, I get it! I can get distracted!" You say, interrupting her.
She laughed as she led you to the C.P.A.A building. You follow reluctantly, thinking of a comeback.
Before you can, Jack sees you and Jen.
"You're just in time, Greenie. Hey, Jen."
You send a murderous glance at Jen. "You got him calling me that, too?"
Jen smiled slyly. "Maybe. And there's the slight chance that everyone is calling you that..."
Jack laughed. "More like a one hundred percent chance!"
You scowl. "You gotta be kidding me."
Jack gave you a look of sympathy, then walked off into the meeting room.
You glance at Jen. "You are so lucky I don't kill you right now..."
Jen smiled gleefully.
You and Jen follow Jack and take a seat at the long table in the center of the room.
Mark, the C.P.A.A Lead Agent, started the meeting.
"This meeting of the C.P.A.A, or the Crystal Protectors And Agents, will now begin. Any business that needs to be discussed?"
The meeting room went silent, so Mark continued.
"Alright. So there is an approaching threat coming straight for the crystals. We should put the city on lockdown and prepare after this meeting. Every single C.P.A.A member will be responsible to defend Crystilia. No opposing force can be allowed to handle these crystals."
You are quite shocked at this news. Even if the C.P.A.A was available for any threat, the organization hadn't been needed for years. Also, the magic crystals weren't supposed to be used, according to Crystilian religion. You remember that the user can cause chaos, even if they don't mean to. The crystals were just too strong.
"Do we know who these people are?" Kelly asked.
Mark shook his head. "No. But we assume it is a force we have not seen before."
Carly gasped. "How could we not? Crystilian explorers have explored every inch of the planet!"
"Well, clearly not, if we haven't seen them before," Matthias said.
"After all," said Amanda, "they weren't allowed underground. Nowadays, people are probably making bases underground."
Mark nodded. "Valid point, Amanda."
Jack was looking concerned. "Don't you think we should start lockdown now?"
Mark looked around the room. Everyone was nodding, including you.
"Well, that's settled. We'll lift the walls and get everyone a supply of food," he said.
"What food?" Kelly asked, looking confused.
"We've had these bins of food persevered if this ever happened. We can also harvest the crops that are grown, but once the walls are up, the crops won't grow anymore, as the walls go over the city as well," Mark said. It sounded to you as if he were reading from a textbook.
"So what about light so we can see?" Carly asked.
"There are ultra powered lights on the walls that go over the city and normal lights along the streets," Mark replied. "Anyway, it's time we split up the duties. Jack, Kelly, Carly, Amanda and Matthias, I would like you to go pass out the bins as fast as possible. It shouldn't take too long; this is a small city. Jen, Greenie, I want you to call every single C.P.A.A member to report here. If they aren't in the building, check that person's house. Here's a checklist," Mark hands you and Jen a piece of paper each. On top of the paper are the words C.P.A.A Member Checklist.
"You each have half of the members on your lists. When you get everyone, come back here," Mark said. "Now go!"
You and Jen rush into the hall.
"Top floor down or bottom floor up?" You ask.
"Top floor down," Jen replied.
Jen starts running for the stairwell, and you follow.
You soon find out that speeding up the stairs isn't a skill you have.
When you finally get to the fifth floor, you sit down on the ground, panting.
Jen stopped and looked over her shoulder."Oh, come on," She said. "We have to go."
"Just...one minute..." You say.
"Greenie, we have to go now," Jen said in annoyance.
You reluctantly pull yourself up and follow Jen down the hall to the last room.
"Alright. Who's in this room?" Jen asked. "We need to check that everyone's here."
"Dan."
"Vanessa."
"Phil."
"Samuel."
"Nadiana."
You and Jen check off the names.
"Alright, Mark needs you down in the meeting room."
Dan, Phil, Vanessa, Nadiana nod and leave.
"What for?" Samuel asked.
Jen shrugged. "You'll find out"
He walked out of the room, clearly frustrated that you didn't tell him anything.
Your "scavenger hunt" went just like that; confused people getting mad and obedient people being... well, obedient.
Returning back to the meeting room, now crowded, you look around at all the people. At this point, you know the names of them all.
Mark started to explain yet again why the city was going on lockdown. You tuned him out, and your mind starts to wander.
"Hey, Greenie!"
You land back in reality. "What?"
You look at Jen. She looked quite annoyed. "We're supposed to go take our position now. Don't you listen? Ever?"
Just to annoy her, you say, "Not really."
She shook her head and flounced out of the room.
You laugh to yourself and follow her.
