Rick's P.O.V

For Jay's birthday, Carl got us all up to go for a walk outside the gate's today because that's what Jay wanted. He wanted to go for a walk with his family.

"Grab the puffs," Michonne said as she strapped Judith into the stroller.

I walked over to the kitchen counter and grabbed Judith's favorite puff food and handed it to Michonne.

I kissed Judith's forehead and Michonne's shoulder and they both smiled.

In an instant, Jay and Carl ran  down the stairs, they were giggling and hitting each other.

"You lil shit!" Jay laughed

"Language Jaden!" Michonne warned

"Cut me some slack, I'm 17 today!"

"Forreal, cut him some slack." Carl agreed

Michonne shook her head at the boys and I couldn't do anything but grin, Carl is always taking up for Jay and if not it's vice versa. They're like the younger me and... Shane.

My grin soon faded at the thought of Shane...I don't want Carl and Jay growing up and turning out like we did.

"Grimes?" Jay said

"You good?"

I snapped back to reality,  to everyone staring at me and nodded my head awkwardly.

"Yeah, yeah."

"Let's go then." Jay advised

He tried to rush out the house but Michonne stopped him and pulled him back, "Nu uh, you know the drill."
He sighed and pulled his hair into a pony tail and tied it up.

Michonne's very cautious about Jaden wearing his hair out of his braids because it's so long and puffy that anyone and anything could grab it in an instant and you know how dangerous that is. Sometimes she even makes Carl wear his hat when they are on runs.

"last one to the road is a stupid head!" Carl shouted

Jay and Carl ran out the house, laughing and pushing each other trying to slow one another down.

Michonne giggled and pushed Judith out the house in the stroller, following the boys down the road, and toward the gate.
I watched her walk off and Jesus Christ, I could do some stuff and thangs to that booty.

I shut the door behind me and ran to Catch up with Michonne.
When I got beside her, she grabbed my hand and held it tight and I didn't ever wanna let go.

We looked ahead at the boys, walking out the gate, laughing and fighting on.

"I never got to thanks Jay." I said

"for what?" she asked

"He gave me the ring, said it used to be his mother's but he thought so much of you that he didn't mind  you having it." I explained

She smiled and rubbed her thumb over mine, and even the smallest things she did gave me as much a rush as I had lying in bed with her.
"Rick, I feel like we're moving too fast, and I love you so much but we have so much going on, we're too busy fighting to live, let along mar--"

I lowered my eyebrows and cut her off, "What are we fighting for if we don't get to love? I'm fighting for you, Carl, Judith and Jaden, because I love you all. And I've never been so sure about anything in my life, I'm ready to marry you and make you Michonne Grimes." I said

She stared at me with her big beady eyes and a tear began rolling out, "God, how did I get so lucky in all of this,  to find you?"

I chuckled and kissed her forehead, "I should be asking you the same thing,  because finding you in all of this, that was my miracle."

We soon realized the boys had stopped and were staring at us,

"get it Grimes, she's all over you man!" Jay joked

"I only kissed her forehead." I chuckled along

"Jay, I don't know why I even talk to you, ahaha," Carl placed his hands on his knees, because he couldn't stop laughing...
"You're just dumb."

Jay nugged Carl's head and took off, "Fight me!"

Carl chased his around the road and along the edge of the woods until Jay ran into them.

"Don't go in the woods!" Michonne yelled

but they didn't listen, they ran further as Michonne shouted.

"STOP RIGHT NOW!" she yelled

she was such a mom.

they boys soon stopped, but not because they heard Michonne, but I could see Jay fall, very hardly.

"aHHHH!" he yelled

"Dad! I think he broke his leg!!" Carl yelled

Carl looked at me, paying no attention to Jay, and that's when it happened.

time slowed down and before I could yell after him, a walker had already bit Jay dead in the neck.
I took off running toward them and Michonne nearly pushed down Judith's stroller.

Carl turned around, shot the walker in the head and dropped to his knees.

he cradled Jay and cried quietly.
"You're gonna be alright, we're gonna be alright man. Just hang in there. You got it."

I stared at Carl, the way he held Jay so close to his heart.
I started crying, looking around for Michonne, to find her broken down on the road, crying herself.

"DAD DO SOMETHING!" Carl yelled

"Carl, t- there's nothing- nothing we can do.." I stammered

"no, no, no, no.!"

Jay fluttered his eyes open at Carl and smiled, "hey bud, don't cry, I'll be okay. I'm going to a better place."

Carl tried to grin through his tears, "Jay, before it's too late I just wanted to tell you that I've never doubted you and that you're such a great brother and I am glad you came into my life. You mean so much to me and I don't know if I can make it without you. I love you, dude, and this is hurting so bad I ---"
Carl's eye rolled to the back of his head and he clutched his shirt, he seemed to have froze but his body still twitched.

"Daa--" he couldn't speak and I didn't know what to do...

My son was having a heart attack.

I fell down to his side and tried to shake him but it was too late and he had passed out before  I could do anything about it.

Jay died in Carl's arms and Carl stretched upon him, unconscious and maybe even dying himself.

I felt like I couldn't move, or say anything or even breathe for that matter .... This just hurt worst that Lori.

"RIIIIICCCCKK!" Michonne yelled

she grabbed Judith and ran over to where we were, "CARL!!"
she shook him off of Jay and banged his chest,

His eye opened, but shut again, but then opened again,

"Carl! open your eyes, open your big blue beautiful  eyes, don't give up on us!"

Carl tried to speak but we could barely understand, "Mom?" he whispered before passing out again.

Michonne smacked me and shook me by my shoulders, I still couldn't move, so I just shut my eyes.

"RIIICCCKKK!"

she smacked me again and this time  I opened my eyes wide,

surrounded by Michonne, shaking me senseless, Carl cradling Judith in his arms and Jay looking confounded all staring at me.

"you ite Grimes?" Jay asked

I hopped up in an instant an hugged Carl and Jay,
"Dad you okay? You were literally screaming in your sleep." Carl said

"I'm fi- I'm okay.. I just had a bad dream."

I backed up and admired their faces.. they were alive and they are still here with me.

"how bad could the dream have been then the one we are living in?" Jay asked

"It just was." I murmured
