24. SIN
"What are you doing, sweetheart?"
I ignored him and continued to throw the clothes out of my closet. Once it was empty, I moved on to the next. Michel suddenly gripped my arm and spun me around. My eyes shot up to his face. He was angry.
"I asked you a question and I expect an answer, little girl."
"I'm l-looking for my old clothes."
"I threw them out." His hold on my arm loosened. "Why?"
"You threw them away?" I asked in disbelief. "Why did you do that? You had no right! It was mine."
"They were old and full of holes. You didn't need them anymore."
"You had no right!" I yelled, hitting his chest with my fists.
My vision started to blur as tears dripped down my cheeks. A sob fell from my lips. Michel sighed, and gripped my wrist gently. He tugged me closer and wrapped his arms around me. I clung to him as I allowed the pain to consume me.
It hurt. It hurt worse than it did to have father hit me and lock me up. It felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest.
Michel pulled away and wiped the tears from my cheeks with his thumbs. His green eyes locked with mine for a few seconds. Taking a step back, he took hold of my hand and led me to the bed.
He took a seat on the edge of the bed and pulled me onto his lap. For a few minutes he only held me against his chest. When my sobs died down, he pushed me away slightly. A finger under my chin forced my eyes up to his.
"Tyrone's not sending you back because he wants to," he said softly. "We have no say in this matter Sin. We could fight but Draven could have you sent to the hospital again. He already thinks that you tried to kill yourself."
"He promised," I whispered.
"I know, sweet pea. Believe me, if Tyrone could do anything to stop him from taking you back, he would."
"I hate it there."
"It'll only be for a month. Once you turn twenty-one, you can make your own decisions."
"I can come and stay here again?"
"Always." Michel leaned down to press a kiss against my nose. "Now go say sorry to Ty. You really hurt his feelings."
"If I say there, how will I see all of you?"
Michel sighed. He cupped my cheeks and tilted my head back slightly. Leaning down, his eyes caught and held mine.
"Bella will visit you there. We'll make arrangements to meet at Ty's place whenever we can. Plus we'll call you every night," he said softly. "We'll figure out a way to meet you."
I nodded. "Can I have a cookie?"
His eyes narrowed. "You've already had enough sweets for one day."
"Not for me." I licked my lips. "It's to say sorry to daddy."
"I don't think giving him a cookie is going to make up for what you said, sweet pea."
Michel was right.
The moment we returned downstairs I knew a cookie wasn't going to make up for what I said. I spoke in anger. I didn't hate Tyrone. My feeling for him ran deeper than hatred, but it was too late to tell him that.
Tyrone left.
The minutes ticked by, slowly turning into hours and still Tyrone hadn't returned. Once again I ruined things. What if he never wanted to talk to me again?
A knock on the door made my head snap up. My shoulders sagged when I realized that it wasn't Tyrone. Bella hesitated in the doorway.
"Draven is here," she said softly.
"Oh."
I glanced down at my lap. Without saying a word, I got up and grabbed my suitcase. I hesitated and then grabbed the teddy bear. Bella wrapped her arm around my waist as she silently led me down the stairs.
Draven was waiting by the front door.
He look up when he heard us and gave me a small smile. I ignored him, my eyes searching for the one man I wanted to see so desperately.
"He's not back yet," Bella whispered.
I glanced at her. "I'm sorry."
She shook her head. Her arm tightened around my waist but she said nothing. When we reached the bottom of the stairs, Michel appeared. His face was emotionless as he took my suitcase from me. They said nothing. Draven walked out of the house and Michel silently followed.
I moved to follow them but Bella gripped my arm. Turning, I gasped in surprise when she suddenly wrapped her arms around me. I hesitated for only a second before hugging her back. When she pulled away, she cupped my cheek and slowly kissed me.
"I'll come visit and I'll call you every night."
"Okay."
My suitcase was already in the car when I walked out. Draven opened the door for me. Keeping my eyes focused on my shoes, I walked to the car. I got in, flinching when he slammed the door closed.
"I'm sorry," Draven said softly after her climbed into the car.
When he reversed the car, I glanced up. My eyes locked with Michel's.
"Wait!" I called.
I pushed the teddy away and reached for the door handle. My hand was shaking too much to get the door open on the first try. When it finally opened, I stumbled from the car and ran towards him. Michel caught me and held me close to his chest. I clung to him. He buried his face in my hair and hugged me tighter.
"It's only for a month," he whispered. "After your birthday if you want to stay with us again, I'll come and get you."
"Promise?"
"I promise, sweet pea."
I wanted to say more, but his arms loosened. He turned his head and kissed my neck. And then he was stepping away from me and telling me to go. It was only for a month.
It'll all be okay.
