Chapter 6 A Broken Promise
A/N: Trigger Warning, like the previous chapter, this chapter has mentions of abuse.
Kassidy POV
I sat at the lunch table and stared at my phone. It was a mistake turning it back on, seeing all of the missed calls and text messages from Dylan. Why couldn't he just take a hint? The sound of a lunch tray hitting the table in front of me made me jump. I looked up and was met by three sets of narrowed eyes. Ruby, Emma, and Belle.
"Where have you been all day?" Emma asked.
"More importantly, Why did you totally freak out on me in Biology?!" Ruby asked.
"I'm...sorry?" I said.
"You should be. We are your friends. you can tell us anything." Belle said.
"So spill it. What is going on?" Ruby asked.
I sighed heavily and put my head in my hands. "Look. There are just some things. I don't want to talk about." I said.
"Like.. everything since you showed up three days ago." Ruby said with an eye roll.
"Well forgive me, if I don't spill my guts to the three people I've only known for three days!" I spat. and then sighed. "Its just.. really personal." I said.
"Fine. Just tell us if you are okay?" Emma said.
"I'm fine." I said with a smile.
"You're lying." Emma said.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"I just do." Emma shrugged. "So Really. What is wrong?" She asked. I went to speak but my phone rang. Again. Ruby took it off of the table and looked at it and grinned.
"Oooo.. Who is Dylan?" She asked.
"Ruby.. please." I said standing up trying to grab my phone from her. "Just give me the phone!" I shouted. She handed it back to me.
"Geeze what is up with you?!" She asked. As I took the phone back I accidently answered the call and His voice came through the speaker.
"Kassi.. is it you?" He said.
I quickly hung up. His voice shook me to the core.
"Kass?" Ruby said and stepped forward and put her hand on my shoulder. I pulled away.
"Don't!" I screamed and grabbed my things and took off out of the cafeteria. I could hear Ruby, Belle, and Emma as the followed me. I ran into the bathroom and leaned against the door trying to keep them out But the three of them over powered me and came into the bathroom. I paced back and forth trying to control the tears that were falling.
Ruby picked up my phone and started reading through the text messages.
"Kassidy. Calm down.." Belle said.
"I can't. He wont leave me alone." I cried.
"Who?!" Emma asked.
"Dylan.." Ruby said. "Kassi this guy is a total creep! You have to tell someone!" She said.
"I can't! Because it will just get worse."
"Who is this guy?" Belle asked.
"Hes my ex boyfriend.." I said and wiped tears from my eyes. A couple of girls walked into the bathroom.
"Out!" Ruby said.
"We have to go!" One of them said.
"Yeah well there's two other bathrooms in this school. Pick one!" Emma said as her and Ruby pushed the girls out and blocked the door.
"Why is he bothering you like this?" Emma asked.
"Because.. He was a possessive, manipulative, abusive asshat." I mumbled.
"Abusive?? Did this guy hit you Kass?!" Ruby asked. I just looked away.
"You have to tell someone." Ruby repeated.
"If you don't. I will." Belle said.
I sighed. "Who am I supposed to tell?"
"Oh. I don't know, maybe start with your dad. The cop?!" Ruby said.
"I can't prove that he ever hit me. There's nothing they can do."
"You may not be able to prove that he hit you, but this is stalking!" Ruby said and handed me my phone back.
"Just let me handle it on my own." I said.
"Do you promise that you will?!" Ruby asked.
"Yes. I will. I promise." I said.
Killian POV
I watched my juniors file into class all of them except for Kassidy. I frowned.
"Miss Lucas. Where is Miss Cole?" I asked.
"I don't know Mr. Jones. Just give her a few minutes?" She said but I couldn't help notice the look of worry that spread on not only her face but Emma and Belles too. I gave a quick nod and walked to the door looking down the hall both ways. No sign of her.
"Ruby, hand out the study guides that are on my desk. I'll be back in a moment." I said
"Sure." Ruby said. I walked out of the classroom and down the hall and began to hear whispering.
"Dylan.. Please. just stop calling me."
It was Kassidy's voice. she sounded terrified I turned the corner and saw her pacing the hall talking on her cellphone. I made sure to stay out of sight but listened closely.
"No. I do not want to get back together. I don't want you anywhere near me!" She hissed and then paused for a moment before speaking again.
"No. Dylan. Listen to me. I. Fucking. Hate. you. Stop calling me, Stop texting me, Or I will go to the police!" She said. Dylan was yelling so loud on the other end that I could hear him clearly.
"Who the hell else is going to love you the way I did?!" He demanded.
"Love me? LOVE Me?! You don't beat the crap out of someone you love just because they break up with you!"
I felt my fists clench at my sides. This...Dylan. He hit her? I found myself enraged at the thought of it.
Dylan said something inaudible.
"No! Dylan you stay the fuck away from me! Do not come here!" She yelled and hung up and stood there. I walked up behind her.
"Miss Cole.." I said. She spun around.
"Mr. Jones. I'm...sorry I was making my way to your class.." She said and wiped the smudged mascara from under her eyes.
"Kassidy.." I said.
"What?" She asked and started walking towards me like that entire conversation did not just happen.
"Why don't we go see the counselor?" I asked.
"Why? Because I'm late to class? Its not exactly a Crisis." She said.
"Because I heard you talking on the phone." I said.
"Oh.. that? I'm fine." She said and shrugged and started walking past me towards the classroom.
"No. Kassidy, you aren't." I said and caught her arm pulling her back.
She pulled away from me. "I said I'm fine!" She yelled.
"I'm just trying to help you!" I yelled back.
"I didn't ask you to! I can handle this on my own. Just stay out of it!" She spat and walked down the hall and into the classroom.
Kassidy POV
I walked into the classroom and took my seat next to Ruby.
"Are you okay? I think Jones went looking for you." She said.
"Yeah. I'm good." I said and smiled but then flinched as the door slammed shut and Mr. Jones walked by.
"Miss Cole, nice of you to join us." He said coldly.
"Yeah. Well, I bored and thought you know what sounds fun? Sitting here for an hour getting screamed at." I said. He narrowed his eyes at me. I narrowed mine back at him. My phone beeped in my pocket and I pulled it out to look at it but before I could, Mr. Jones took it and put it on his desk. I folded my arms across my chest and shot him a glare. What the hell was his problem?
"You can have it back after class." He said.
"Whatever." I said and reached down to my backpack and pulled my study guide out and started working on it. My phone rang from Mr. Jones desk.
"Is it Dylan?" Ruby whispered.
"Probably...don't worry I'm handling it." I whispered back.
"Miss Cole, Miss Lucas. Quiet!" Mr. Jones snapped. I rolled my eyes at him and went back to work on my study guide. Ruby looked at my paper.
"Hey, how did you get all the answers??" She asked.
"Miss Lucas! Out!" Mr. Jones snapped. Ruby shot him a glare before picking up her things and walking out of the classroom.
"Jesus.." I muttered.
"Is there a problem Kassidy?" Mr. Jones asked.
"No." I said. "I just think maybe, that was a little harsh and that if you have a problem with someone you shouldn't take it out on people who aren't involved." I said.
"Get to work, Miss Cole." He said and sat down. I grumbled in frustration and tried to work on my study guide for the remainder of the class. When the bell rang I started packing my stuff up.
"Miss Cole, Stay behind just a moment." Mr. Jones said.
I looked at him. "I have to meet my dad." I said.
"I know. I wont keep you long." He said and waited until the last student left. He handed me my phone.
"I just didn't you focusing on it during class." He said.
"Okay. Thanks I guess?" I said and took it.
"Kassidy, If this is something that you cant handle on your ow-" He started but I cut him off.
"I can handle it." I said. "I have to go." I added and walked out of the classroom. I was angry, I was angry because of the assholery he just pulled, I was angry because I didn't understand why it hurt my feelings suddenly when he was mean to me, and I was angry because he was right and I didn't want to admit it. I walked out of the school, it started to sprinkle. So I figured I'd call my dad to see if he could pick me up here. I dialed his number and waited for him to answer.
"Hey Kassi." He said.
"Hey, Dad, its starting to rain and I just figured you could pick me up at school and then we can go to Granny's." I said.
"Oh.. Kassi I forgot to text you, I'm sorry honey, I'm working late again." He said and I felt my heart drop.
"But Dad.. you said.." I started.
"I know I'm so sorry. I will make it up to you I prom-" I hung up the phone and threw it across the parking lot.
Why the hell did I do that? I sighed and went to go get my phone and the sky opened up and started pouring rain down on me.
"Damnit!" I screamed and picked up my now shattered phone. I couldn't control my tears at this point as I ran back into the school to shelter myself from the rain. I shivered and sobbed on the way back to Mr. Jones classroom. I don't know why but I felt, seeing him would make me feel better. I just hoped I wasn't too late and he hadn't left for the day. I put my hand on the knob to his classroom door and it twisted in my hand. Mr. Jones opened the door, ready to leave when he stopped and looked at me.
"Kassidy??" He asked, there was concern and surprise in his tone. "What happened?" He asked.
"C..can I.. c..come in?" I asked through chattering teeth.
