Chapter 40 I Will Not Say Goodbye

A/N: This is possibly the hardest chapter I've wrote. I cried like a little baby the entire time. Trigger Warning: This chapter is extremely emotional and intense, it deals with Death, and attempted suicide. Also, Make sure to read the Authors note at the end of the chapter as well.
Don't hate me everyone. I apologize in advance.

Kassidy POV

I paced the floor in the waiting room so much that I was probably running a hole into it. Ruby, Emma and Belle were all here waiting with me. Emma's Dad, David, who was my Dad's partner was here too.

"Can I get you anything?" He asked me for the 100th time. I shook my head and looked at the clock. Another minute went by.

Sean Cole, 46, Caucasian Male, Heart attack. The words from when we rode in the ambulance were stuck in my head.

Heart attack

"Is Killian coming?" Ruby whispered to me.

"What?" I asked then caught on to what she had said. "Oh.. I don't know." I said and looked back at the clock.

Another minute.

"Honey..why don't you sit down?" David asked.

"I'm fine." I said. Katherine ran into the waiting room.

"What's happened? I went by the house and the neighbor said Sean was rushed to the hospital!" She said.

"Go. Away." I said.

"No. I will not." She said. I lunged at her David caught me and pulled me back holding me back from Katherine.

"Get out of here!" I screamed.

"Kassidy calm down." David said.

"Make her leave! I don't want her here!"

"Kassidy Cole?" A Doctor said as he walked out of the back room. David released me and I walked over to the doctor.

"How is he? Can I see him?" I asked. The doctor frowned. My heart dropped into my stomach.

Don't you fucking say it.

"I'm very sorry. We did everything we could." He said and that's when everything seemed to stop. I could see that the doctor was talking to me but I couldn't hear the words he was saying. I watched the doctor walk back through the double doors. I turned back to face everyone. I was dizzy. Their faces were blurry but I could see they were crying and then suddenly, like getting hit with a ton a bricks. Time snapped back into place.

"Why..is everyone crying? Hes fine. Its fine." I said.

"Kassidy... honey.." David said and walked over to me.

"No!" I shouted. "Hes Fine!"

"Kassidy.. you need to sit down." Ruby said. I shook my head.

"No I don't. I'm..just I'm going to go see him." I said. I went to take a step but my legs gave out. David caught me before I hit the floor. I felt like all of the air was taken from me. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't think. I just started screaming.

"Let me go I have to see him!"

"Kassidy.. Hes gone." David said.

"Stop lying to me! That doctor doesn't know what Hes talking about!" I screamed. I tried pulling away from David but he had a death grip on me. I started beating on his chest with my fists He just held me closer.

"Its going to be okay. Just breathe." He said his own voice was breaking as he just lost his best friend. I Hit him until I ran out of energy and that's when the tears came, The denial was over. He was gone and he wasn't coming back. My tears soaked through David's shirt but he didn't seem to care.

"Its going to be okay." He repeated. But it wasn't. It was never going to be okay.

Killian POV

I didn't even make it fully into the hospital before I heard Kassidy screaming. My heart sunk. I knew exactly what his meant. When I got to the waiting room, Ruby, Emma, and Belle were all wiping tears from their eyes. David was sitting on the floor with Kassidy holding her. My heart broke seeing her in so much pain. It just wasn't fair. Kathrine walked over to me, dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

"What are you doing here Killian?" She asked.

"I'm a friend of Sean's." I said. "What happened?"

"Heart attack." Katherine said. "He was under a lot of stress, Kassidy wouldn't talk to him, he was a wreck." She said.

"This isn't Kassidy's fault." I said, I wasn't able to hide the anger in my tone.

"I didn't say it was." She said.

"It sounded an awful lot like it." I said. "Maybe you should go. Kassidy has got way too much going on for you to be here." I said. Katherine glared at me before walking out of the hospital. Kassidy was quiet now which was somehow worse than when she was screaming. Her gray eyes looked like someone had sucked all of the life out of them. Her expression was blank but tears still fell from her eyes. She just looked so broken and I wanted to hold her but I couldn't. Emma walked over to me.

"Shes uh.. gonna stay with us tonight. My Dad wants to keep an eye on her.." She said.

"Of course." I said. "I would think she'd want to be with her friends right now. I'll be there when she's ready for me to." I said.

"This just isn't fair Killian.. first her Mom.. now her Dad I mean what has she ever done to deserve all this?" Emma asked her voice shook.

"Not a damn thing." I said. "Life works that way sometimes. Things happen that we just don't see coming." I said trying to hold back tears of my own.

Kassidy POV

The funeral was beautiful, as far as funerals go. We had the funeral in New York so my Dad could be buried next to Mom. Ruby, Emma and Belle all missed school to be here with me. David was here, Killian was here and I didn't care at that point who suspected anything. I needed him here and he knew that. Katherine was here but I didn't care about that either as long as she left me alone. My Aunts, and Uncles from both sides of the family were here, cousins that I hadn't seen in years and were practically strangers. It was all a little overwhelming but Dad would have liked it. I managed to get away from everyone so I could finally be with my parents, alone. I didn't even care that it was raining and I left my umbrella inside. I sat down in the wet grass.

"So like.. if you guys could just come back.. that would be great." I said. "Because this fucking sucks, you weren't supposed to leave me here all alone." Suddenly the rain stopped falling over me and I felt someone sit beside me. I looked up at Killian who was holding an umbrella over me.

"Everyone was wondering where you went." He said.

"I'm sorry." I said.

"You don't have to apologize. They all understand." He smiled. I looked back down.

"I just wish.. someone would wake me up." I said. "I mean.. this has to be a really bad dream. No one is this unlucky. No one's life sucks this fucking bad." I said. Killian pulled me close to him. He didn't know what to say, and that was okay. He didn't have to say anything. He just needed to hold me.

"I wouldn't have survived today if you weren't here." I said. "I know, its risky with Mrs. Nolan.. and Katherine being here.."

"I don't care what they think." He said. "You needed me. that's all that matters to me."

I leaned my head on his shoulder.

"Thank you." I said.

Killian POV

A Few days after the funeral, I was supposed to have been meeting Kassidy at her house to help her go through some of Sean's things. I opened the front door and walked in. The house felt more empty than it ever did before.

"Kassidy?" I called out. No answer. I had a horrible feeling in my stomach as I walked up the stairs.

"Kass? love, where are you?" I asked. I walked into her bedroom she wasn't there her bathroom door was open just a crack. I pushed it open. Kassidy was in the bathtub. there was a perscription bottle beside her that was empty.

"Kassidy! No!" I yelled. I crouched down to her and checked for a pulse. She was alive. "Kassidy God Damnit Wake up!" I yelled and shook her. I turned on the shower and climbed in the tub with her The Cold water beat down on both of us. I opened her mouth with my fingers and shoved my fingers down her throat trying to get her to throw up. She started choking. I pulled my hand away from her mouth and held her hair as she vomited all over the tub.

"No!" She cried. "You have to let me go! I'm not ready to say goodbye!" She slurred out and tried to pull away from me I held her tightly I wasn't letting go for the world.

"Why would you do this to yourself?!" I sobbed.

"Please just let me go" She cried.

"Never." I said

I waited in the waiting room at the hospital. I was getting way too familiar with this place. David walked out into the waiting room and ran his hand through his hair.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"They're going to keep her for a few days in psych and then she's going to be staying with Us for a while. I don't know how you knew to go there, I don't care. You saved her life Killian." He said. The only thing I could think about was if I had been just a second later.

"Is she going to be okay?" I asked.

"In time." David said. "Too lose both of her parents so close together.." He said and sighed. "Its just a lot for someone so young." He said. I nodded.

"Would.. it be okay if I just saw her for a minute?" I asked. David nodded. "They wont let you in the room, but you can look through the window." He said and led me back towards where they were keeping Kassidy. I looked at her in the window. She looked at me, and quickly looked away. I don't know if it was out of anger, or shame or maybe both.

I sat at my desk while students worked quietly on their assignments for the day. I glanced up at the empty desk where Kassidy was supposed to be. It had been empty for a few weeks. She had been staying at Emma's so I would have to make sure to ask Emma how she was doing. She texted me every day she told me she was fine, and not to worry but I knew better. The bell rang.

"Emma, stay behind for a moment please." I said as students started walking out of the class. Emma walked over to my desk. I waited until everyone was gone before I spoke.

"How is she?" I asked.

"I don't know. She doesn't talk much. Which..is really weird for Kassidy. She mostly just sleeps. my mom finally got her to eat something yesterday." She said. I frowned.

"She misses you I think, Its just.. my Dad is a lot more observant than Sean.. and if She tried to say she was staying at Ruby's he would double check. I try to remind him she's 18. But Sean was his best friend. He feels its his responsibility to see that Kass is okay especially after...well.." She said. No body really knew how to bring up the subject but I knew exactly what she was talking about.

"I understand. I miss her too. Maybe we can find a way to sneak her out. If she's up to it." I said. She nodded and smiled.

"I'm sure I can arrange it." Mrs. Nolan walked into the room.

"Emma.. there you are. You aren't in trouble are you?" She asked.

"No, No.. She's not. I was just asking about Kassidy." I said.

"About Kassidy, Emma your father just called. He went home to check on her and she wasn't there. There was no note, nothing." She said. My mind started racing. Where the hell did she go? I looked down at my phone to see if she had tried to call or text me.

"I'll call her. Maybe she just went on a walk she's been cooped up in there for weeks" Emma said and dialed Kassidy's number. Her eyes widened and she looked at me, and then her mother.

"Her number has been disconnected.." She said.

A/N: Okay, So I am at a point where I could *Almost* Finish this book (Give or take 5 more chapters or so)  and start a second one for Kassidy's senior year. So here is my question to those of you who read this story, Do you think I should just make it One Big Book, Or should I start a second one?
