Chapter 12 Who's going home with you tonight?
Kassidy POV
I had barely slept the past couple of days and I was feeling it by lunch time. I didn't feel like eating. I just laid my head on the table.
"Kassidy why don't you just go home, you look awful." Emma said.
"I'm fine." I said.
"No you aren't you've been falling asleep all day." Ruby said. "I don't think you were ready to come back. What happened to you was scary Kassidy."
I lifted my head from the table. "Guys. I promise I'm fine! I'm over it." I said. I wasn't but I didn't like everyone worrying about me. The truth is, I was scared to go to sleep, and I was terrified to go home today because I knew I'd be there all alone for a few hours.
"Okay..if you say so." Ruby said. "Does..it still hurt?" She asked.
"A little." I said and shrugged. "Hes not coming back though. So Don't worry my Dad made it pretty clear he wouldn't survive if he did."
"You're Dad is going to have to get in line." Emma said. I smiled.
"I love you guys." I said.
"Well duh." Belle grinned.
"Do you think you are going to feel up to my party Friday night?" Emma asked.
"Of course! Nothing keeps me from a party." I said with a grin.
"You would think that your dad being a cop would keep you from parties." Belle said.
"What he doesn't know doesnt hurt." I said and shrugged. "Are you going to be there?"
"Yes. But only to keep the three of you from getting too crazy." Belle said
"Me? Crazy? Nah.." Ruby said and grinned.
Killian POV
I watched my juniors file into the classroom. Kassidy was the last one in the room. She looked like the walking dead. There were dark circles around her eyes, her face was pale and she just looked exhausted. Maybe she came back too soon. She sat down in her chair and pulled out her history book and opened it. She was so tired she didn't even realize she had the wrong book.
"Kassidy.." Ruby said.
"What?" Kassidy replied.
"Wrong book." She said. Kassidy looked down at her History book.
"Oh. Oops." She said and closed the book and put it back in her backpack. She grabbed her algebra book and put it on the desk and propped her elbow up on the desk and rested her chin in her hand.
"Everyone open up to Chapter 8, Section 3 please." I said. Everyone opened their books Ruby leaned over and opened Kassidy's book and nudged her shoulder.
"Kass!" She whispered. Kassidy opened her eyes quickly and looked down at her book.
Halfway through the lesson, I noticed Kassidy had face planted her book and was sleeping. I looked at Miss Lucas who was trying to get her to wake up to no avail. I tried to pretend like I didn't notice. She needed the rest. I finished the lesson Just in time for the Bell to ring. Which startled Kassidy awake. She screamed, pushed her Algebra book off of the desk and fell out of her chair onto the floor. The classroom erupted with laughter.
"Alright, Alright! Its nothing to laugh at!" I shouted. "Don't forget to work the problems in this chapter and bring them to me in the morning!" I said. The students all groaned as they gathered their things and left the classroom.
"She's had a rough couple days Mr. Jones...don't be too hard on her." Ruby said.
"I got it, Miss Lucas." I said and helped Kassidy off of the floor as Ruby left.
"Thank you.." She said softly. "How long was I asleep?"
"The whole class." I said.
"I'm sorry.. you should have woke me up." She said.
"Its okay. You looked exhausted. When is the last time you slept?" I asked.
"Does the 15 minutes that I was in and out of consciousness the other day count?" She asked and sat down resting her head on the desk.
"No. No it doesn't. You need sleep. Is your dad coming to pick you up?" I asked.
"No. Hes working." She said in between a yawn.
"I'm taking you home. You can't walk like this." I said.
"Okay.." She said and grabbed her backpack. "Except.. can you take me to Rubys? I don't want to be home alone.." She said.
"Of course." I said. we walked out of the school and too my car thankfully no one was around or it might have looked a little questionable that a student was getting into my car. But I knew by now that I was fooling myself if I told myself that Kassidy was just any other student because she wasn't anymore. I just didn't know what she was to me and I didn't want to drag her into the unknown. I got in the car and and looked at her. She looked at me.
"...what?" She asked.
"Put your seatbelt on." I said. "Your dad is a police officer, and I have to tell you to put your seatbelt on? I'm glad you are not driving yet Miss Cole." I smirked. She grinned.
"Hush." She said and put her seatbelt on. "Maybe I like to live life on the edge."
Do you, now? I thought.
I had been driving for a few minutes before I realized I didn't even have a clue where Ruby lived.
"Where does Ruby live?" I asked. There was no answer. I glanced at her. She was sleeping again. So I did something, that I knew damn well I shouldn't have. I took her home, with me.
When I got to my house I parked the car in the garage and got out and walked around to the back and grabbed her back pack putting it over my shoulder before opening the passenger side and lifting her out of the seat. She was so tired she didn't even wake up a little. I carried her up the steps in the garage and pushed the door open with my foot walking into my house. I laid her down on the sofa in the living room and put a throw blanket over her before walking to the fireplace and starting it. I put her backpack down on the floor beside the couch and just let her sleep.
Kassidy POV
Before I opened my eyes, I could hear a fire crackling and snapping, and could feel the warmth on my face from it. I smiled to myself and pulled the cozy throw blanket closer to me snuggling into it. It smelled like cologne. Not just any cologne, Killian's cologne. I smelled something else too. Something delicious. So I ruled out two things, I was not a Ruby's, and I was not at home.
Where. the. hell. Am. I??
My eyes shot open and I bolted up from the sofa and tripped over my backpack.
"Ow! Fuck!" I hissed. Killian came running into the room.
"You okay??" He asked. I looked up at him with a look of both shock and confusion before I looked around the living room.
"Don't worry. You are safe. I didn't kidnap you Miss Cole." He said.
"No...you just...took me home with you?" I asked.
"Well, you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you up and I didn't know where Ruby lived. So I brought you here. It solved both the you not sleeping, and not being alone problem." He said.
"Thank you?" I asked still confused. I must have been damn near comatose for him to drive me all the way here, and carry me into the house without me even flinching I looked for my phone.
"Your phone is on the charger in my office. I didn't want it to wake you up. I texted your father pretending to be you, and told him you were at Ruby's." He said. "Are you hungry?"
I was still trying to take it all in. I was standing in my incredibly nice looking teachers living room. The same teacher, who I had extremely mixed feelings for and had no idea how to act on them.
"Kassidy.." He said. I looked at him.
"What?" I asked.
"You're doing that thing that you do, when you just stare at me and forget to breathe." He said with a chuckle. "Are you okay? I'm sorry if this is all a little too much for you." He said.
"No.. No its not. Its just I just woke up and.. What is that delicious smell?" I asked.
"Dinner." He said and grinned and walked into the kitchen. He walked back out of the kitchen with two plates of food and placed them on the table in the dining room. I sat down at the table.
"You made this?" I asked looking down at the Steak, and baked potato, and carrots.
"Yes. I did." He said.
"And..it didn't come from a box in the freezer?" I asked. He laughed.
"You eat entirely too much take out Kassidy Cole." He said. I smiled and took a bite the steak was amazing.
"Okay, thats it. I live here now." I said. He smirked.
"Come on, I'm sure your father can cook something." He said.
"Uh.. the whole house would have burned down if he attempted this. My mom did the cooking."
"Well what about you?" He asked.
"I can put Pop tarts in the toaster." I said. He raised an eyebrow.
"What am I going to do with you?" He asked.
Whatever the fuck you want. I thought.
After dinner I sat on the couch working on my homework I had finished everything besides my personal kryptonite. Algebra and it must have been apparent that I was struggling because Killian walked over and sat beside me.
"Need help?" He asked.
"Well, considering I was asleep through the entire lesson earlier maybe." I said and laughed a little.
He began to explain the problems and I, once again found myself unable to focus on what he was actually saying. I watched the way his lips moved completely entranced by them.
You know you want to Kassidy. Just kiss the man. No. No. Hes your teacher. That would be wrong. But so right.
"Oh what the hell." I said and leaned in and kissed him. It was exactly like those moments in movies. I felt fireworks, as in my heart felt like it was going to explode it was beating so fast. My skin tingled and my entire body felt like jello. He pulled away from me and stared at me in complete shock.
"Miss Cole.. I.. we.. this.." He fumbled with words trying to think of what to say. I shook my head.
"I'm.. so sorry I just.. No.. I wasn't thinking. I should go." I said and stood up and gathered my things putting them into my backpack.
"Kassidy. Wait." He said.
"No. This... I can't believe I did that." I said. "I..have to go." I said "Thank you.. for everything." I said
"Kassidy. You don't have to go." Killian said.
"No.. I do.. I will see you tomorrow Mr. Jones." I said and hurried out of his house.
What the actual hell just happened?!
Killian POV
I couldn't think. I couldn't breathe. Did that really just happen?
Go after her you Idiot! I thought. I stood from the couch and ran out the door but Kassidy was already gone. I ran my hands through my hair and sighed heavily. How could I let her leave? I was kicking myself. I should have kissed her back. I should have held her and told her it was okay because I felt exactly the same. But I didn't.
I waited about 30 minutes before I tried to message her on facebook. I had to know she made it to wherever she was going. Storybrooke was a small town So it couldn't have taken her long.
I pulled up my facebook on my phone and opened messenger and clicked on her name.
Me:
Where are you?
It was a few minutes before she responded.
Kassidy:
I'm home.
Me:
Is somebody with you?
Kassidy:
Dads here. See you tomorrow.
I tossed my phone aside, cursing to myself. I just royally fucked everything up.
