35 - Karaoke

"Good news?"

"Oh, most definitely."

Kevin started breathing again.

"She's doing fine at the moment but tests are being done to see what the issue is."

Kevin nodded and said a silent prayer that she was ok.

"We need to keep her in for a couple of hours to monitor her." The woman said clutching her clipboard tighter.

Kevin rubbed his eyes. "May I see her, please?" He asked deperately.

She shook her head slowly. "I'm sorry, Sir. No visitors at the moment."

Another doctor came out and tapped her arm. She apologised and left quickly, leaving him alone in the waiting room again.

Kevin returned to his seat and looked down at his phone. Only 13% battery left, great.

As he watched another minute pass by, he saw Avi walking through the door with... Mitch?

"Brother." Kevin said as he got up and hugged Avi.

Mitch stood uncomfortably beside them and looked around at the waiting room. He still had no idea why he was here but guested it was something to do with Kevin's fiancée.

"How is she?" Avi asked as they sat down.

"I don't know, man. She was screaming so loudly, what if it's the baby?"

Mitch sat next to Avi and watched his feet as he swung his legs back and forth.

Avi held onto Kevin's shoulders and tried to reassure him. "It's gonna be ok."

Alex had found the perfect hiding place for the ring, a place Scott would never think to look.

The cleaning cupboard.

They had a small cabinet under the sink in the kitchen which was filled with various bleaches and soaps. He placed the box at the very back behind the carpet cleaner and moved some cloths and sponges to cover it even more.

"Babe, what are you doing?" Scott asked as Alex shut the door and pushed himself up from the ground.

He sighed quietly, glad Scott had come in once he was done, and turned to face his boyfriend.

"Trying to find something, it's not important." He said with a wave of dismissal.

Scott looked at him suspiciously and slowly walked forwards to hook his arms around the older man's waist.

"What were you looking for?" He asked pulling Alex closer.

Alex could have made an excuse but where was the fun in that?

"Like I said, nothing important." He placed his arms so they rested on Scott's shoulders.

"Tell meee." He whined. "Is it my birthday present?"

Alex pinched Scott's shoulder. "Your birthday's not for at least another eight months!"

Scott shrugged and grinned at the man in front of him. "My Christmas present?"

"Stop guessing or it won't be a surprise!" Alex said pulling his arms back and nudging Scott's jaw with his fist.

Scott pouted and pretended to rub his jaw from pain. "Ow." He giggled.

Alex leaned towards him, tilting his head to the side, going in for a kiss. Scott shut his eyes slowly as they got closer.

Just as he could feel breath against his lips, Alex pulled away and kissed his cheek.

"No fair." Scott whined with a smile.

Alex shrugged his shoulders and turned to leave the kitchen. His boyfriend quickly reached out and in one swift movement pulled him to his chest and crashed their lips together.

An hour later and Mitch and Avi were still sat in the waiting room. Kevin had been allowed to see his fiancée and quickly jumped at the opportunity to check on her and their unborn child.

The plastic of the chairs were hurting their backs and Mitch's whining was hurting Avi's head.

"I'm boooredd." He said letting his head fall back to hit the white wall behind him. "I wanna do something cos I'm boooredd."

Avi looked into his pockets for his phone and handed it over to Mitch.

"I've only got a few games." He spoke with a small shrug. He unlocked it for Mitch and watched as he scrolled through the apps.

"I hate Temple Run so bad." Mitch said as he pointed to the icon. "What's this?"

Avi peered over Mitch's shoulder and looked at the screen.

"It's a karaoke game. It gives you a melody and you have to sing the lyrics and then you get points for each word you get right." He explained.

Mitch's eyes grew wide and he instantly pressed onto it. "Oh my god, that sounds amazing!"

As they waited for it to load, Avi looked around at the people in the waiting room. There weren't many people now as it was late so he didn't mind singing in front of them. There was a teenage girl and her mother and an old man asleep in the corner. Hopefully they weren't too judgemental.

"Ok. So, do you want to pick or should we do random?" Mitch asked as the screen finally loaded.

"Random." Avi said with a nod.

Mitch pressed it and waited again. He didn't care how many people heard him singing, he didn't want to be bored anymore.

"Beyonce!" He shrieked as the name flash on the screen. Avi smiled at how excited Mitch was and turned the volume up on his phone.

The music began and they both knew what song it was. Mitch realised what it was quicker than Avi but Avi was quicker to remember what had happened the last time they heard it.

Partition by Beyonce was the song that was playing at the staff party all those weeks ago.

On the phone the song had started from after the drop and was counting down to when Mitch and Avi would have to sing the lyrics.

Avi obviously knew the song but didn't know all the lyrics so he let Mitch start.

He took a deep breath and sang with the most angelic voice Avi had ever heard.

"Driver, roll up the partition, please."
