The replacement inspector came the next day and took a quick look around. Apparently the school wasn't doing as well as they could be so the budget was cut yet again.
American school systems everyone. Your school's not doing good, here let us take away your money.
Kirstie and Tori arranged for a meeting to take place to explain to staff about the recent events. Kirstie was yet to decide whether she would tell them about Avi and Mitch.
She probably wasn't going to say anything. One, that was plain cruel and she shouldn't spread anything about her employees and two, she felt a little sorry for Mitch.
During their little discussion Mitch had had an anxiety/panic attack which lead to him passing out. She didn't realise she was being that harsh on them until it was too late.
"Thank you for coming." Tori said as the teachers filtered in.
Kirstie had changed the usual seating arrangements so that Mitch was as far away from Avi as possible. Scott noticed it immediately but chose not to say anything.
"There's good news and bad. I'm not gonna ask which one you want first, I'm just gonna say it."
Mitch, without realising, was biting his finger nails again but Avi was sat too far away to tell him to stop. Avi sighed and watched him bite harder and harder into his skin.
"Due to certain events the inspector's report on us doesn't matter anymore, whatever he said doesn't mean anything now." Kirstie announced with a slight smile on her lips.
Mitch's hand fell to his lap and he let his jaw drop. He didn't get the school shut down!
"That being said, the replacement has made some comments which mean we will have our budget cut again."
The other teachers shook their heads and sighed but Mitch and Avi were too relieved to care. They didn't shut down the school!
"These cuts are significantly big and I am asking for help with raising money. If we do not make enough money during these fundraisers then the school cannot stay open."
The teachers reacted in the their own way, Scott gasped like the drama queen he is, Kevin shook his head. None of them wanted this school to shut.
"You may go." Kirstie announced.
Everyone clapped and started to collect their things.
Kirstie didn't move, only pointed at the two teachers. "Mr.Kaplan, Mr.Grassi, I need to speak with you."
They stopped their movements and held their breaths. This was it, they were going to be fired.
Mitch was feeling a lot better since his attack but still had reason to be nervous. His palms were sweaty and his nails were bloody.
Avi was more worried about Mitch in that moment than he was his own job. He'd had anxiety when he was younger and knew how bad it could be.
Kirstie pinched the bridge of her nose and began shouting.
"I have no reason not to fire you both!" She screamed.
They winced at her tone and got mentally ready to clear out their desks.
"You jeopardised everything I have!" Kirstie continued as she got a seat for herself.
Avi was biting his lip, a habit he'd only just acquired, and slumped his shoulders.
She sighed heavily and sat down.
Kirstie started to speak in a quieter tone. "However if you raise enough money to fund the school next year I will allow you to keep your jobs."
They both looked up at her.
Avi and Mitch were so grateful in that moment it didn't matter that Kirstie was still angry at them. They were keeping their jobs!
"I will give you no help or any advice. You may leave." She concluded allowing them to leave the tense room.
They still had their jobs, they didn't get the school shut down!
All they had to do now was raise enough to run the school for a year.
That couldn't be much money, right?

"Please come over, I haven't seen you in like forever." Scott pleaded into the phone.
He heard Kirstie sigh. "Alright, who else is gonna be there?" She asked.
Scott made a confused face. She'd never cared before, why now?
"Well, me and Alex but if you want to invite like Mitch or something you can." He suggested.
"No! No, I mean... I just want it to be us." She said quickly. What was up with her?
Kirstie arrived ten minutes later with a bottle of wine and a onesie.
They sat on the sofa and Scott poured her a glass. "Girl, what's going on with you?" He asked.
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
"By Justin Bieber." Scott added.
"Shutup. There's nothing going on with me." She said as she playfully pushed Scott.
"That's not true, what's up?"
Just as Kirstie was about to reply, Scott's phone started to make a sound.
"It's Mitchie." Scott said with a smile as he read the message.
Kirstie rolled her eyes and took a long sip of wine. Scott noticed and stopped everything.
"What's up with you and Mitch?" He asked fearfully.
She looked him in the eyes and pouted slightly, the fact finally making her feel sad.
"We're not friends anymore."
