Surprisingly the inspector was impressed by the math department and even more surprisingly Kirstie never found out about the three teachers being late.
The next day the inspector returned for the second part of the tour and for the interviews with the staff.
He needed to see all of the practical subjects today so they first started at the art department.
An email had been sent the night before with some warning about the inspection, for most teachers it was too late but for Justin it meant that he was extremely prepared.
"Mr.Shane." Kirstie said as they entered the room.
Justin made sure to have his best students sat with their best work for the lesson the inspector was coming to.
He extended his hand to the gigantic man. "Hello. Welcome to the art department, it's nice to--"
"I would ask the percentage passing however I firmly believe one cannot 'pass' art." The inspector interupted, pushing past Justin's hand and walking around the room.
Slowly he walked behind every child and judged their work with either a grunt or simply silence. Mr.Shane stood appalled that the inspector didn't think people can 'pass' in art.
"Back when schools were about education doodling was not considered a subject." He said spitefully continuing to judge the students' drawings.
"During such a financial crisis I do not understand why you haven't cut this 'subject' yet, Miss.Maldonado." The man announced once he had returned to his place next to Kirstie.
The smell of tobacco and cheap cologne made her want to puke everywhere...
Maybe even on him. He'd probably smell better then.
"Thank-you, Mr.Shane." Kirstie said with a apologetic smile.
The inspector then turned his back and started to leave the room.
What he didn't see was Justin standing behind flipping him off as the class laughed.
------
"Sir!"
Some kid with hot pink shoes came running up to Mitch and Avi.
"What do you want?" Avi asked unenthusiasticly.
"How many weeks until we have to, like, perform this?" She said twirling her hair around one of her fingers. She was chewing gum obnoxiously and had the clumpiest mascara Mitch had ever seen.
"Two weeks." Mitch replied instead of Avi.
The student looked at Mitch and then Avi and smiled. She stood silently and tilted her head to the side.
"Hello?" Mitch said with a wave of his hand.
The kid stopped chewing and replied. "Sorry. You two look really cute together, like so cute."
Avi's eyes went wide and he started to blush. Why did he always seem to blush when Mitch was around?
Again he turned his head so Mitch wouldn't see but, like usual, Mitch already knew.
"Well we're not together so get back to your group." Mitch snapped.
Avi suddenly felt sad. Why did he feel sad?
"Yet." The girl said quietly.
Avi was busy dealing with his emotions but Mitch heard her.
"Huh?" He asked stopping her from leaving.
"I said you're not together yet. Sorry 'bout it." She flicked her hair off her shoulder and left.
Mitch sat bewildered and Avi sat confused.
The lesson continued and every so often the same girl would turn and watch Avi and Mitch as they were talking. They found it very creepy so after only ten minutes of the lesson they decided to leave.
It seemed like they were never in their lessons but, to be honest, they were rarely needed and were more like babysitters than teachers.
"Samuel's in charge. Bye." Avi shouted as they left. No more was needed to be said, the class were used to it by now.
They walked and made small talk down the hallways and out the door. They were playfully arguing (like usual) and both were enjoying each others company. They were so deep in conversation that they forgot about being quiet or sneaky.
They threw the doors open and happily skipped towards their spot on the field. Mitch noticed no one was training today so he started to run into the open space.
Avi quickly caught up and it turned into a race. They both mentally decided that the white line in the middle would be their finishing line so they both sprinted towards it.
Just as Mitch was about to touch the line, Avi reached out and grabbed onto Mitch's waist.
------
"Would you like to see our drama/music department?" Kirstie asked as they walked into the hallway outside of Mitch and Avi's room.
The room sounded quiet and there was no shouting coming from inside so Kirstie assumed the two teachers weren't fighting. She was right, they weren't arguing, they were outside playing.
"I don't believe that prancing about a stage should be taught in any school. Music is nothing but a waste of time and drama is insignificant." The inspector loudly proclaimed to Kirstie.
She was losing all patience with this man, her breaking point was bound to come soon.
"I wish to see your sporting facilities. They should be in top condition, they are essential in a school."
Kirstie took him to the gym which wasn't very far from the drama/music room. As she was about to open the door she saw someone hurrying towards them.
"Hello, Tori." She greeted with a nod.
Tori smiled and handed the inspector a clipboard. "You requested it yesterday, Sir." She added.
He snatched it out of her hand and cleared his throat.
"That is correct, Miss.Kelly, I requested it yesterday. Yesterday. Meaning that this is late." He said slowly, like talking to a child.
Tori's smile disappeared and she looked over at Kirstie.
"Tori, how about you join us on the tour? You have very good knowledge on the sports department." Kirstie said wanting to show how her bad the inspector was.
Tori faked a smile and agreed. The inspector dramatically brought his wrist to his face to pretend to read the time.
"Right this way." Kirstie muttered as they entered the gym.
The three of them walked into the room to be met with the very muscular gym coach.
Kirstie shouted over the noise of the machinery. "Mr.Kenworthy!"
Gus turned away from his students and looked at Kirstie, Tori, and that terrible terrible inspector.
"Hey guys." He said as he jumped down from where he was helping someone.
The inspector raised his head and peered over his nose to look at the equipment. The machines weren't new but they looked good and worked.
"We're in here today because last lesson I noticed a few kids were lacking in stamina." Gus said to the man.
He nodded once and proceed to check the machines that weren't in use. Tori turned to Kirstie and made her eyes wide. They silently communicated with each other using only eye contact.
It went a little like this.
What the hell is wrong with him?
I know, he's horrible.
I hate him.
Me too.
"Do you have a team?" The man asked without looking up.
Gus began to explain about the american football team the school had and how well they did last season.
The inspector seemed to actually listen to him. It was strange.
"I wish to see your outside sporting facilities." He demanded after he finished the conversation.
Gus waved as they made their way out of the room. The inspector ignored the gesture and followed Tori out of the room.
Kirstie sighed.
They're never going to pass this inspection.
