Mission im-fucking-possible had started.
Scott and Kirstie were trying everything in their power to get their best friend to fall madly in love with his worst enemy.
They were on their lunch break in Kirstie's office. They'd written out a list so they were organised and knew exactly what to do.
"First step is to like, talk about Avi. In a nice way. You know, just to get Mitchie to stop hating him so much." Scott said writing a number one on the sheet.
"We don't know anything about him though." Kirstie was sat in his chair with her legs up on the desk.
"One of us should get to know him then." Scott suggested.
"That's you. You can turn the flirt on."
Scott's flirting was a good concept. But in practise it was a little awkward.
"One, he's bi so you could do the job too. Two, he's insanely in love with Mitch. And three, Alex."
Kirstie rolled her eyes and reminded him of her own love mission.
"If you can remember I'm trying to impress Jeremy and flirting with another teacher isn't gonna help."
Scott sighed and tapped the pen on the desk.
"Fine. I guess we'll both be friends with him." He announced.
Scott started to write it down on the paper, trying to keep his handwriting sort of neat.
"That's the first step?" She asked leaning over the table to look.
"Yep but we have to write some more steps so we know what to do next."
Scott wrote a number two underneath.
"Step two..." He said resting his chin on his hand
Kirstie copied the movement and thought.
"Um...?"
-----
"How are the groups?" Mitch walked back into the room as the students were leaving for lunch.
He had to go talk with the other drama teacher for most of the lesson.
"Not bad, I think group one and two are having problems with the lyrics."
Avi was sat at their shared desk with kids' names written messily on some paper. It had notes, arrows, and ticks all over it.
Mitch scanned it all quickly and saw that his favourite group didn't have anything written on it.
"Brandon's group is doing ok?" He asked looking over Avi's shoulder.
"Which group?"
Avi was trying to take deep breaths.
It was difficult to have Mitch so close when the night before he'd dreamt of them much closer.
"Six. Just there." Mitch pointed down at the page leaning further over him.
"Sam's group?" Avi asked.
"Yeah."
Mitch's chest was on his shoulder blade as he pressed weight onto him.
"Mmhm." Avi hummed.
Mitch could literally feel how deep his voice was. They were close enough to feel a lot of things.
"They're doing just fine." He continued.
They stayed like that for a few moments. Mitch pushing into his shoulder and back pretending to study the paper in front of them.
"I'm sorry about running off yesterday." Avi said no louder than a whisper.
"It's ok." Mitch turned his head so he was looking at Avi.
"I shouldn't have left you. It wasn't fair."
Avi's hushed voice and their faces being no more than centimetres apart was causing some weird feelings in Mitch's stomach.
"Don't worry, I can handle it." He replied slowly and suggestively.
"Yeah?" Avi asked.
"Yeah."
-----
"I'm so excited."
Scott was writing so quickly his hand was just a blur.
"You're weird." Kirstie laughed as she watched.
"Thank you." He muttered as he carried on writing.
They had the steps done and they were both, well mainly Scott, confident that it was going to work.
"I'm so happy, I don't even know why. Actually I do, little Mitchie's gonna have a boyfriend."
Scott was smiling so much his face hurt.
"You act like he's your child." Kirstie said bringing her legs down to the ground as they had no blood left in them from being raised for so long.
"He's my baby and you know it."
"Everyone knows it."
He laughed and stopped writing. He pointed to each point as he read them.
"We need to talk to Avi. Get to know him, learn about him. Then we casually drop in the things we find out when we talk with Mitch."
That was step one. And within the next few days it would begin.
"What could go wrong?"
-----
Still incredibly close, Mitch reached a hand out and ran his fingers through Avi's hair. It was up in his signature man-bun so Mitch was basically lightly scatching Avi's scalp but he still smoothed the hair as he went.
"Why do you never wear your hair down?" He asked as he stroked it.
"Don't know. Kinda gets in the way."
All Avi wanted to do was rip the band out and have Mitch run his hands through it properly.
Well that wasn't the only thing he wanted to do.
"I like it down." Mitch said.
Avi blushed as he remembered the weekend before. The staff party weekend.
He'd woken up (in bed with Mitch) with his hair down and didn't know why.
He was now suspecting Mitch had taken it down during the makeout session that apparently occurred.
He really wanted to be able to remember it.
"Thanks. I always like your hair." Avi said to break the silence he'd created.
"Yours is better though." Mitch replied as he pushed one strand behind Avi's ear.
He kept his hand resting on Avi's cheek bone and looked him in the eyes.
"I know." He chucked.
"Wow." Mitch dropped his hand but was now smiling like a giddy school girl.
They both started laughing which was weird seeing as they were really close still.
"I'm kidding. Yours is really cool. Like it wouldn't suit anyone else but on you it looks good."
Mitch pushed himself up and moved a little away from Avi.
"Thanks." He muttered.
They'd both forgotten it was lunch and, with only having one more minute of the break left, they knew there was no point in eating now.
"We're actually being nice to each other." Avi commented.
Mitch laughed. "I know. It's strange."
They sighed.
"I like it."
"I like it too."
