"Name and date at the top. You have one hour. Test starts now."

They all looked terrified.

"Good luck."

Scott couldn't do much now. He hadn't given them much warning for the test but this was a smart group, they could handle it.

The constant noise of pens scratching and paper turning got increasingly more annoying as the hour went by.

Scott had twice the amount of paper work to fill out now he was head of department. He had lessons to plan, budgets to analyse, and he had to check the progress of all students for the next year.

It was exhausting.

-----

The atmosphere was horrible.

After Mitch and Avi's little thing earlier and their quite big thing that weekend, the room felt uneasy.

They tried to push past it and put on their professional voices.

"Some of y'all already know but drama and music have been put together for this year." Mitch announced.

The two classes were sat on chairs that had been placed lazily in the centre of the room.

"This decision was not made by me or Mr.Grassi so don't complain at us." Avi added.

The kids looked about as happy as their teachers at the change. The eye rolls were real.

"Trust me, I know how annoying this is but we're gonna have to just work with it." Mitch sounded tired and slightly stressed.

"Music groups will be broken up and put into the drama groups. Because of the disruption we will give you an extra week of rehearsals."

The students didn't look any happier but at least they didn't look any angrier either.

"Mr.Kaplan will read out your groups. Stand in them and get to know each other."

Avi pulled out his notebook and began to read out the new groups. Most of the kids were pleased, some were a little pissed.

Mitch thought about how bad the situation was with Avi. They had not only had a drunk makeout session but had nearly kissed earlier too.

Mitch still hated him.

"Last group! Alicia, Tas, Samuel. You're in group 6 which is Kira, Yan, and Brandon."

Mitch smiled.

Samuel and Brad were going to make a good couple.

"Music people will have to either play the songs for the drama kids or can choose to sing one of the songs."

Avi ushered them to start and stood back to watch.

All six groups would have to change a lot in order to work with their new team mates. Characters would have to be desributed again and songs would have to be chosen.

Group 6 looked like they were having some difficulty.

"That's not gonna work. Me, Tas, and Alicia don't wanna do it."

Kira held a sheet of paper with notes written messily all around it. They were trying to sort out the duet but none of the girls wanted to sing.

"Which one of you can sing the highest?" She asked the boys.

Brandon knew he was a baritone, not a very skilled one, but a baritone none the less.

Yan had also been in the music class so knew his range, it certainly wouldn't be suitable for the female part. He was more of a bass.

They all looked at Samuel.

He pushed up his glasses and smiled shyly. That was taken as his agreement.

"But then we need a low part for the male part." Kira said writing Sam's name next to the female parts.

"We can't do it. Yan?" Tas motioned to the girls who all had high, very squeaky voices.

"I get stage fright." That left one person.

They all looked at Brandon.

"Scott?" Kirstie walked into the staffroom during lunch.

"Yeah?"

He needed a nap.

"Can I see you in my office real quick?"

He packed up his stuff and waved goodbye to Mitch, Esther, and that substitute teacher, Mr.Lewis or something. He followed Kirstie into the office and took a seat.

"What's up, babe?"

Thank god. Scott thought he was in trouble.

"Nothing, Kirst. Just not really liking the new job." He answered truthfully.

She nodded in understanding. She brought him to her office so he could get some peace and quiet.

"It's stressful at first but you'll get used to it. Remember you're in charge so if you get too overwhelmed you can just ask the other math teachers."

"Ben never did that." Scott said blankly.

"I know. Still missing him?"

"Hm." He hummed as a reply.

Scott got a can of Dr Pepper out of his bag and opened it. Coffee would have been better but any form of caffeine was good.

"How's Alex?" Kirstie asked.

He took a long sip of the drink.

"Busy. Tired. Stressed. A bit like me really."

Scott sighed and finished off the drink. Just as Kirstie was about to reply the bell went.

"Wine night later?" She suggested.

"Sure.?
