MahumSheikh a.k.a @mahumsheikh
A beautiful writer with even more beautiful stories. Her stories are the full package of action, romance and drama. Her talent is proven by the fact that her first story has more than 1M reads and is in Wattpad picks.
Presenting before you is the very talented writer mahumsheikh
Me: Hi sis!
Mahum: Hello!
Me: Congratulations on getting Perfect Scars as a Wattpad pick.
Mahum: Thank you. I never thought that it will go that famous.
Me: Surprises are always beautiful. Here I have a list of questions that a few fans of yours including me want to ask to you. Let's start with them.
Me: Tell us something about yourself.
Mahum: I am a Pakistani medical student. I am a proud nerd (hehe), an old soul, a keen reader, a sarcastic person and a big foodie. The people around me will most likely describe me as an emotionally distant person which I am. I hate pets, love spicy food and have a different crush every week.
Me: That crush part is so me. And I guess every other girl on Wattpad who can't decide between Hayden and Adam. (haha)
Now that you are a medical student and a nerd, what motivates you to write? Because it is said that science and literature usually never mix.
Mahum: My motivation lies in just three words, My Lovely Readers.
Me: That's sweet! How did you get to know about Wattpad?
Mahum: Actually there was a phase in my life when I got really interested in Zayn Malik. So I was searching about him on Google one day when I found a fanfic about him. That's how I got to know about Wattpad.
Me: *sigh* Been there... Done that. I had downloaded almost every pic of his that was available on internet and then for the next few months my laptop had crashed. 🤣
How did you celebrate when you got 1 M reads on Perfect Scars?
Mahum: I didn't celebrate as such. I didn't even tell anyone except my friends.
Me: That was very calm. I would have gone mad and forced everybody to download Wattpad in my house.
But moving on... It is said that books are somehow related to us. Is it true in your case?
Mahum: No. All my books are related to romance genre and sadly, I'm not a romantic person. The only person I can relate to in my stories is Xavier, the guy who chose relations and friendships instead of his love.
Me: And the Sister before Mister code is back in action!!
This question was in my mind before I decided any other questions. Why do you keep changing the name of your books? Aren't you satisfied with one?
Mahum: Yes. I know it's a really irritating habit but after a while, I get bored of things, names, characters, displays and even people.
Me: Point accepted.
You write about a culture other than yours. What are the problems you face? Is there a specific reason why you do this?
Mahum: The difficulties I face are mainly due to my lack of knowledge about American culture which I solve by reading other books and researching about it. I don't write about my own culture because as a Muslim, I won't feel comfortable writing about scenes between two Muslims. Because honestly, in my personal life, I don't even talk to boys or sit beside them comfortably, let alone falling in love with them.
Me: Alright. Let me tell you, you have done a great job at researching.
How do you take criticism?
Mahum: By ignoring it. Really immature, I know!
Me: Rightly said that ignorance is a bliss at times.
We have seen that both Noah and Caleb have the same attitude. Are they inspired by someone you know?
Mahum: Not really. They are just typical men. Flirty, funny and player-ish.
Me: Insert an eye roll at player- ish.🙄🙄
This one is my favorite question.
Between Alicia, Katherine, Sophia, Emily and Violet. Reasons needed.
a) which one is more like you?
b) which one would you befriend?
c) which one is ideal?
d) which one's quality are you not fond of?
Mahum:
a. Alicia is more like me.
b. I would love to befriend Alicia, I mean someone like me.
c. Again Alicia.
d. I am not fond of innocent, selfless people like Emily and Violet.
Me: Alicia is a role model, no doubt. And the best one for Adam. He should be aware of that or I will knock his head open someday.
If you had to give a face to these who will they be and why
a) Adam and Alicia
b) Noah and Caleb
c) Hayden and Violet
d) Katherine and Daniel
e) Emily and Justin.
Mahum: The faces of Adam, Alicia, Justin, Emily and Noah are given in Someone like Adam.
For Katherine, Nina Dobrev.
Daniel as Tyler Blackburn.
Caleb as Cody Christian.
Hayden and Violet will be on reader's imagination.
Me: Hahaha, the upcoming question is my favorite. *wicked smile*
If you had to choose between Adam and Noah and Hayden and Daniel whom would you choose. Why?
Mahum: Adam because I find his rudeness hot. I don't know why.
Hayden because... Well, he is the King.
Me: Loved that witty answer. This answer is officially my favorite right now.
How do you manage your professional and personal life with writing?
Mahum: Call it a gift but I am really good at managing things (Ignore the narcissism 😅)
Me: Haha sure.
So do you have any tip for new writers?
Mahum: The title, cover, introduction and grammar matters a lot. Even if you are creating a typical wattpad story, try to add a twist in it. For example, If you are writing about an arranged marriage, do something that distinguishes your story from other arranged marriage stories.
Me: That was some nice advise.
What is your favorite book on Wattpad or anywhere else?
Mahum: Storms and Silences. I can read it anytime, anywhere!
Me: Yes, it's a nice book. I recommend everyone to read it.
Tell us something fun and something distinctive about yourself?
Mahum: Something fun: I will never let you stay hungry. Being with me means food, lots of it.
Something distinctive: Multi-tasking.
Me: If you are a foodie, I would love to hang out with you.
What was your worst writer's block?
Mahum: I never had one. I write stories in which end is clear for me.
Me: Okay...!
The best thing about Wattpad is that you get the reviews soon.
What was the most hurtful and the best comment on any of your book?
Mahum: There are lots of good comments so I won't point on any particular one. But the one that hurt me the most was "How dare you call yourself a Muslim? You should be ashamed of yourself."
Me: I don't know why people have to include religion in everything! 🙄🙄
Nevermind. I don't care two cents for them. Tell us, what is your dream goal on Wattpad?
Mahum: Crossing 50 M reads.
Me: Inshallah, it will happen soon. 😊
You always ask us to define people in three words so let's see how you define yourself in three words.
Mahum: Funny, distant, intelligent.
Me: True that.
I don't want to end this soon enough but the 20 questions are complete. So bye sis. Hope you get all the best things in your life.
Mahum: Bye Amisha. Loved the interview.😊
