Gumball slid the money towards the cashier's hand while he grabbed the bags he bought for him and Darwin. The store they were in is filled with candy. Both boy's sweet tooth ached for the sticky, hard, and chewy candy that lies within their bags. Darwin grabbed his bag that Gumball held out for him and began to dig through to find the gummy bears he was craving.

     Both boys headed towards the door; opening it as the small bell rang up above the door frame. Their feet hit the pavement, walking in a nice and steady tone. Darwin moved his hand's around in the bag just to pull out a piece of gum. Both boy's seemed quite happy that day as they made their way to Penny's place for a chat.

     "I wonder how Penny's been doing sense the school year ended?" Gumball asked as he pulled out a piece of gum. Darwin kinda froze for a moment, trying to figure out how to tell Gumball something he might have not liked to hear about Penny. Well, two things.

     "Even on the last day of school, she gave you a sad look, as if she looked at you for the last time." Gumball froze; standing there as his hand stopped moving in the bag. His look on his face was a look of pure shock, which made Darwin feel uneasy. He had never seen a look of terror in his brothers eyes.

     "She... she looked at me with that look!" He breathed heavily. Gumball felt his heart shatter. Why is he feeling this why? Was it because of guilt? Or the fact that he ignored her? He loves her so much that he can see the two married; if she loved him back. He knew deep down she has feeling's for him. And even plans for a great future with her were high hopes. But does she love him back?

     "Well, yeah. I walked up to her a few weeks later. She said she wanted you to ask her out before Tobias did." Darwin confessed as he watched as Gumball tried to force the tear back in.

     "I know what you're thinking Gumball, how about we get their and ask her ourselves?" Gumball smiled at him. Maybe it was a great idea to finally see her and apologize for his actions.

     "Yeah, good idea." Gumball said, moving his hand back into the bag. Would Penny even break up with Tonia's for a cat? Gumball can quit a handful. At times, he was too hyper or didn't think well when it came to responsibilities.

     Darwin, who didn't want Gumball to follow him to Penny's place, quickly thought up a plan. He thought it was a good idea to try to convince Gumball to come home with him. Penny's and Darwin had planned to talk alone about the issues she had with Tobias and also other stuff that bothered her.

     "But. I think we should, you know. Go home first and get our stuff done." Darwin said, slowly walking the other way. But Gumball kept walking to where Penny lived. He wanted to see her. To know if she was alright. Tobias is a lot worse than he is. And being the rich kid he is and rubbing stuff into people's faces for what he has and what they don't have really pushed Gumballs' buttons. But a rich kid who knew that he loved Penny was taking the next step.

     Penny looked out of her window at the people who casually walked on the sidewalks talking or on their phone's. And the car's moved at a fast but steady speed down the road. Her eyes shifted just a bit, looking at the strangers who passed by. None of them were familiar to her. Just as she moved her eyes to the right side, noticing two familiar teenagers. Gumball and Darwin walked up to her front door of her house.

     "There here!" She whispered happily. The doorbell rang as Penny sprinted down the steps with excitement. Her father watched her as she opened the door to the two young boys smiling.

     "Hey boys." Penny said politely. "Come in and make yourself comfortable." She looked at Gumball as he walked in with a smile. Penny grabbed Darwin's left hand, pulling him towards her.

     "We have to talk. Alone." She pulled him upstairs right near her room. "I thought it was just Gumball coming...or was it you?" she questioned him. Her mind was a bit fuzzy from the unexpected surprise. She talked to Darwin the night before, asking him to hang out and talk. But I was not expecting Gumball to also show up.

     "Yeah, but he wanted to come along, I tried to force him back home." Darwin answered her question. "But, I didn't want to bother him as he kept walking towards your house." He admitted. He felt a bit of an emotion take over him. The feeling of uneasiness took control. He felt as if Penny wasn't too happy with him. But she is that type of person who wouldn't hurt a fly or soul.

     "Darwin, I'm not angry. I'm just embarrassed and scared for you two. If Tobias finds him near me, he'll flip out and try to kill Gumball. I love Gumball a lot, I just don't want anything to happen to him." Gumball hid to listen to their conversation.

     "Anyways. I don't think Gumball has the guts to even admit his love for me." Darwin was shocked by her words. Gumball even says the same thing.

     "No. Penny. Don't think that because he really does like you, like like you. I mean what I say. For example, if i take you after you break up with Tobias, I would have to deal with a death threat. I'd never double cross my brother." Darwin threw his hands up in the air. "He can be annoying at times. Or cause a lot of trouble. And mess up some of the most important moments in my life. But he's my brother."

     "No, Darwin, you're not getting it. It's gonna be really hard for me to break up with this jerk. He's... he's... he's abusive. He uses me for money so he doesn't have to buy his own stuff. He slapped me the one time just for eating a salad. And he doesn't even commit to the relationship." Gumball, who was listening closely. Slid forward, hitting his head against something hard. Startling the two as they quickly turned to look at him. Darwin peeks over Penny's shoulders. Looking at Gumball.

     The blue cat stood up quickly. "If you don't need me, I'll be on my way." Gumball said, his head halfway down as tears flowed down his cheek. he felt rejected. As if his own brother wanted to get to her. It was either he misheard the conversation or what Darwin said and put it the wrong way. Or Darwin actually meant it.

     "Gumball, I-" She watched as Gumball turned away and walked out. "I don't want to date Tobias, I wanted you." She smiled at him as he stopped immediately. Turning to look at his lover.

     "Then break up with him, and go out with me." Gumball said. "Then I'll show you true love and not a guy who uses you and treats you with disrespect."

     Darwin stood there listening. "Okay, Penny, can I stop by tomorrow. I think it's time for Gumball to take a nap." Darwin pushed Gumball down the stairs. "I hope everything goes right." He said, closing the door. "Gumball, what was that?" He asked with an angry tone.

     "I really don't like Tobias taking my girl. I know she hates him and all." Unfortunately, Tobias was listening to Gumballs' words. He was making his way down the sidewalk to Penny's house for a small meeting. But I came across something else. He hid between the bushes as he listened to Gumball speaking.

     "If you really want to know what abusive is. Then I'll show you what abusive is." Tobias mumbled, lowering his head down further in the bushes.

          The next morning

     Darwin woke early to start the fay off with good vibes. He had to be at Penny's house before breakfast. Darwin slipped his green shoes on and quietly walked out of the house. I'm trying not to disturb anyone. It was a foggy morning in Elmore with no one even walking outside but him. Just him and the silence. He turned down a block where Penny's house was. Before he could go any further.

     A man grabbed his arm; pulling him in an old ally with garbage can's knocked down with trash all over the place. His hands pinned to the walls above his head. His muffled screams were replaced with a cloth. He slid his eyes open to find a figure peering at him with their hoodie placed over their head. Darwin kicked and tried to scream, only to get a blow to his gut. A small gasp left his muffled mouth. Blow after blow after blow Darwin finally had his advantage as he lifted his left leg up in the air at full force with speed and hit the man where the air blows from below. He fell back as his hood fell off his head.

     "Tobias, but...why you?" Darwin mumbled, covering his left eye as he shook from the pain.

     "I heard all about your plans to split me and Penny up. And I won't allow that to happen." He slowly pulled out a knife from his right pocket. Darwin back up, still covering his left eye. "I hate it when people get into my business." He grabbed Darwin's foot, pulling him closer. His knife was above his head as Tobias swung it down. Darwin dodged the sharp blade. He kicked him once again and made his way for freedom.

     Darwin was limping his way down the sidewalk as he ran as fast as he could. Just a block away was Penny's house. He looked back to find Tobias running angrily towards him. "Please stop." Darwin screamed as he made his way to the door. "Help, someone help me." He banged on the door where Penny's father opened the door. Darwin ran in and kicked the door close. "Stay away from me." He yelled.

     "Darwin, honey, what happened to you?" Penny's mother said, holding him. The pain swept up his body from the touch.

     "Tobias, he...he tried to kill me. He can't date Penny. He's not the one." Penny's father opened the door to find Tobias standing there, breathing heavily with the knife in his hands. He slammed the door and spoke. "Call the cops."

     Darwin looked at Penny as she came down the stairs. "Darwin, are you okay?" she asked. Darwin hugged her.

     "I'm fine. Their calling the cops; you don't need Tobias anymore." Darwin moaned as the wounds hurt from the punches. "I'm fine. Just needed to lie down for a little." Darwin walked over to the couch. Penny's mother grabbed a wet cloth and a bucket of water to ease the pain. Placing the warm wet cloth on his forehead while Penny's father called Darwin's parents.
