Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Undoing of Eric Girbaud's Sanity
Eric's POV
My best friend since forever.
The only choice to be the head Beta for my pack.
Trenton Rowan Knox...died in his sleep. And I know that those gods and goddesses of the supernatural were to blame, all because he and I chose to end the life of the pathetic Omega known as Tauren Knox.
After allowing myself to say a tearful goodbye to him before the warriors took his lifeless body away to be prepared for burial; I was now facing the now-silent crowd of my remaining pack members, all of them staring at me with a range of emotions. Some were devastated for Trenton's death. Some of them had that weary look like the cattle did after being broken in by their handlers. And there were a few who were glaring at me with the utmost hatred because they believed that the deaths of many people from rogues were all because of the choices I made.
No matter.
They were all irrelevant at the moment.
"My pack," I barked, making everyone snap to attention. "This morning, I woke up to find the head Beta lifeless. From what I can tell, he passed away from the hands of the gods and goddesses who are 'punishing' us for executing my chosen mate known as Tauren Knox, Trenton's worthless brother. There will be a ceremony for him later this evening and all of you are expected to attend. The curfew that was enforced will be lifted for today only, but you all are to still remain-"
"This is all your fucking fault, Eric Girbaud!" I heard an older man's voice yell out.
"Who dares to accuse me?" I bellowed, glaring at everyone. "Show yourself if you are even man enough to do so!"
The crowd parted slightly to reveal an older male Beta dressed in a T-shirt and jeans as he glared at me. "I'm bold enough to call you out," he said. "Remember me, Eric?! I'm Andrew Sliddell, the relative of one of the families whom you killed as they wanted to give their pup medical attention."
"I remember you," I replied, keeping my voice even. "Veronica and Archer should've let that pup die. It was showing weakness. And I hate anyone and everyone who's showing weakness. That pup had to die to keep this pack strong."
"But the pup was innocent," a female warrior intoned as she stood by Andrew's side. "Up until now, I had no qualms with killing off anyone who was deemed as a threat in your eyes, Alpha Eric, but I can only see the blood of the innocent pups who were seeking shelter from abuse staining my hands. I'm going to have to live with myself for what I've done, all by your orders."
Everyone murmured in approval.
"I'm doing what's best for this pack!" I roared, anger fully at high-speed as I let my eyes glow red and claws extend. I was expecting everyone to submit to me, to know that I was the REAL Alpha that this pack needed after my family and the others left when I rejected that runt and killed him. "This pack needs people who can make strong contributions and show everyone that weakness of any kind is not tolerated. I gave you all what you wanted by killing that runt and rejecting him, yet you repay me with ingratitude. Now you say that what's been happening to us is all on my hands?! You all aren't clean-hearted, remember?!"
"We know," replied a fresh-faced female wolf as she approached me and crossed her arms. "We all hated Tauren simply because he was an Omega. But some of us have been visited by the gods and goddesses who warned us that we're bound to face eternal damnation unless we confess that we were wrong about everything."
I scoffed. "Come on. Artemis, Horus, Cronus, Rhea, and all those silly deities are foolish to create something that is worthless," I spat angrily. "You're letting sentimentality and reverence for those beings cloud your better judgement. I'm right about everything! I'm the one person who can lead you down to a brighter tomorrow."
"Sorry, Alpha Eric, but you're allowing too many lives to be ended by either the hands of the rogues or by your hands," Andrew intoned, shaking his head.
"To cure cancer, you gotta kill a few white mice," I defended. "I stand by my word and you all will respect me as your TRUE Alpha of this pack!"
"We have no more Alpha!" An older woman interjected. "Eric Girbaud, your da of judgment is close at hand and you will answer to Cronus and Rhea for your crimes. Yes, we all have played a part in this impending destruction, but no more! I can only speak for myself when I say that I will be leaving this pack immediately."
I let out a ferocious roar, scaring only a small group of people (pups included). "You will NOT leave the pack grounds!" I commanded. "Anyone who leaves will be considered a traitor and will pay with their lives! You will respect me as your Alpha!"
A dark-skinned older warrior stormed towards me...and spat in my face, a sign of total disrespect. 'You may be an Alpha, boy, but you are NOT my Alpha anymore!" he bellowed. "This is the end for the Red Blade pack here in Stillwater! I, Tony Cartier, hereby-"
He never finished his sentence because I was blinded by rage as I slit his throat with fervent hatred. I heard his wife scream from somewhere, only triggering my anger as I began to kill everyone and anyone that was in my way.
No one was to be spared, not even the oldest and most loyal pack member or the newly-born pup who knew nothing of what was happening. In my eyes, everyone was against me as I was ready to reclaim what was now lost.
And after ripping out the heart of my final victim, I knew that I wasn't even mollified.
No.
I wanted to find my family and all the other exiles who turned against me when I rejected Tauren Knox and executed him. I wanted to end their wretched lives before finding the royal family of the werewolves and assassinating them so I could be the next ruler of my own empire. And all who were against me would suffer from the same fate.
My wolf and I agreed on one thing: my sanity was coming undone and it was all because of Tauren Knox. Let the reign of terror begin!
Ooh, child! Looks like Eric has no more mercy as he killed off his pack members without remorse! And unfortunately for the exiles at the Blue Galaxy pack in Oklahoma City, he's on the warpath and full of bloodlust! Y'all better fasten those seatbelts because there's going to be chaos all around!
Coming up next, the gods and goddesses convene with Tauren as they inform him of what happened before Cronus shows the Omega his parents and Trenton. All that and a song from Tauren are on the menu in the next chapter! Don't go anywhere!
