Chapter Forty: Divine Judgment

A/N: Play the song when directed. "Best Thing I Never Had" by Beyonce.

Back at the Court of the Supernatural...

"It's time," Cronus intoned as he, Rhea, Candide Hecabe, Artemis, Horus, Nefertys, Atlantique, Anrus, Isladora, Radixx, Norrix, and Aurora gathered to sit at their respective places. "I'm actually surprised that Eric was slaughtered by someone who as a part of a species of wolf whom he hated the most."

"I wasn't surprised at all," Rhea commented as a servant arrived with crystal goblets full of nectar. "I knew that there was a slight chance that Prince Zechariah wouldn't be the one to kill Girbaud. But I was surprised how the fool managed to kill Ember and Josiah in darkness."

"All the same, Mother and Father, it'll be time for the disgraced Alpha to pay for his crimes," Artemis told her mother just as she saw Tauren arrive with an angel escorting him. "Tauren."

"Hello," the Omega greeted, bowing low. "You sent for me?"

"That we did," Horus replied. "I take it that you've greeted the fallen king and queen alongside the soldiers who died?"

Tauren nodded. "They were very nice and greeted me as if I was their son. I only feel sad that they won't be there to see Zechariah marry his second-chance mate."

"We cannot change what has already occured, only what can be," Radixx reminded him. "Back to the matter at hand, you will be pleased to know that Eric Girbaud has been executed by Cheyenne Eubanks."

Tauren's eyes went wide. "Wow," he breathed. "I never knew that an Omega that Eric hates could do that."

"You'd might be surprised," Candide Hecabe piped up, giving him a small smirk. "Anyway, the main reason why you've been summoned is that we figured that you'd be ready to face him. I know it's not going to be easy, but you owe yourself to finally have your final words with him before his sentence is passed."

Tauren nodded slowly. "I understand," he replied. "Yeah, I'm afraid of what'll happen when I see him, but I'm done being afraid. He deserves to hear what I have to say before he gets his judgment."

"We figured you might want to," Aurora said, granting him a small smile.

The doors of the entrance swung open to reveal two beefy hellhounds roughly escorting the disheveled Eric Girbaud, the disgraced Alpha shirtless and yet sporting a cocky attitude. He soon caught Tauren's stare and spat on the floor.

"Bow before us, Eric Girbaud!" Cronus ordered as a boom of thunder emanated from the skies.

Eric collapsed onto the ground before briefly standing up. He bowed twice. "Ever your prisoner," he said in a snide tone. "You finally ended my life, so what do you want now?"

"We have come to pass judgment for your numerous crimes against my creations," Artemis intoned, her eyes full of hatred at the lack of respect from the younger male. "More importantly, you are here to answer for your main crime in ending my child's life."

"So what?" Eric shot back. "I killed him because I didn't want anyone who was deemed weak in my eyes. I wanted a strong and beautiful female who would be perfect in being my ultimate wife- granting me strong Alpha and Beta boys and beautiful girls, being submissive to my needs, and doing exactly what she's told. Instead, you all paired me with some freak of nature who belongs in the underworld just for being who he is: a worthless Omega that's only good for being a sacrificial lamb, a slave, a punching bag, a breeding stock member, or just dinner for the feral wolves. Whoever told you all that he'd be perfect for me as my mate needed to be shot dead."

Tauren finally stood forward, eyes lit with quiet fury as he was face to face with his ex-mate. "Ah, did I touch a nerve," Eric mocked, a glint of sarcasm in his eyes. "This is what I think of you, you fuckup!"

He spat in the Omega's face, earning him growls from all the gods and the hellhounds who soon came to Eric with glares on their faces.

Tauren stepped back, taking a deep breath to calm himself before wiping his face with a napkin given to him by Isladora. "You speak the truth, Eric Girbaud, and nothing more," he began. "And so, it's only fair tha I give you my final words to you before you learn your fate. I originally wrote a letter to you on the night you killed me, but I knew you wouldn't read it so I might as well let you know what was in that letter. You hurt me, Eric. I didn't do nothing wrong to you other than being who I was: an Omega. I knew that my parents and brother hated me for ruining their lineage because I was an Omega, so I excused them for that. But you? You hated me for no reason at all. You made my life to where I couldn't even leave the pack lands or do much of anything other than wait to be beaten or killed. I actually want to thank you because you spared me a lifetime of hell on Earth. That's what my life was, too. Hell. On. Earth. I knew that you'd wanted me dead because you wanted someone of your caliber, someone to control and have as a perfect accessory. I dodged one hell of a bullet when you rejected and killed me because I was ready to meet my end with a smile on my lips, peace within my heart that you ate, and total appreciation for those who did show me kindness.

Tauren ignored the look of shock  on Eric's faced as he continued with, "You turned out to be the worst thing that I'd never had and I was the best thing that you never had. Heaven knows that it would take another place, another time, another world, and another life for you to see that I would've been the best Luna for you and vice-versa. We could've had it all, you and I, right down to our kids. But it's too late to think about what could've      been. You made your choices and I accepted them without regret. And now, it's time for you to pay the price."

"Well said," Artemis hummed, granting Tauren a wide smile as she and the other gods applauded with the guards letting out wolf whistles and catcalls of approval. "That was a fine address."

"I couldn't agree more," Horus replied.

Eric remained silent, his face warped with a thunderstruck look of mortification and anger.

"With all that's been said and done, do you last words before you receive your sentence, Eric Girbaud?" Cronus asked.

Eric stood up straight, squaring his shoulders as he regained his arrogant composure. "I did what I had to do," he said. "I will be the endgame for all rebels who dare to defy you and got this far before I met my end. My legacy will live on even after I am condemned to the underworld."

"Is that a fact, dear boy?" Radixx asked.

"That is a fact."

"Well, sorry to say this, but even my realm will not be enough for you," Norrix replied, giving the young man a rueful smile. "If anything, my family and I decided that we will grant you your wish...and make an example out of you."

Rhea stood up from her chair and approached Eric, a jeweled box in her hand opening to reveal an iron mask. "Hark, great powers, now pay heed. Pass this judgment with haste and speed. Mighty Ouranos, hear my word! Let this wolf's new life be conferred."

Without warning, she placed the mask on Eric's face, making him scream in agonizing pain before he swiftly vanished.

"What happened to him?" Tauren asked, eyes lit in confusion.

Rhea turned to her grandson, a sly look on her face. "He will return to Earth, doomed to live life alone and forever wearing the Mask of Ouranos as a sign of his eternal punishment," she told him. "Once he meets his new mate and adjusts to his new life, only then he will be free from the curse."

"And if he doesn't?"

Rhea shrugged her shoulders. "Then he only has himself to blame. Now, head to Elysium and rest, my child. When the time for you and Zechariah to meet for the first time arrives, then you will learn what will be for you both."

Tauren was escorted back to Elysium while the gods returned to their respective duties.

Gentle reader, there will be more to Eric's judgment than what meets the eye. But that will come at a later time. Turn the page and prepare yourselves for a powerful reunion like none other. Because when one life ends, another is sure to begin.
