Chapter Fifteen: Requiem for a Mourning Prince of Wolves

Zechariah's POV

Undisclosed location of the Blue Galaxy pack, the next day...

Tauren Knox.

Who would've thought that an abused and mistreated Omega of his caliber would be descended from the supernatural gods that I pray to daily? And who would've thought that I would be his second-chance mate, howbeit posthumously?

Even now, as I stand vigil of his decapitated remains, I stand in awe that even in his condition the hands of Death cannot eradicate such divine beauty. His ebony skin flawless even with the scars he bore, his closed eyes like the rising copper sun, his lips as red as blood, and his hair black as the nighttime sky.

My wolf Jarix and I agree that such a beautiful wolf as he would've gone places if not for the cruelty he had endured at the hands of his own family and the foolish wolf who should've known better. From what I've learned so far, Alpha Eric dictated on the day of his 12th birthday (when he was crowned Alpha for a day by the former Elders) that the Omega was not to have any rights exercised and he was deemed unfit to be anything other than a punching bag and chew toy. Nicholas and his wife vainly did all they could to have it revoked, but it was too late. Tauren was treated like garbage and had nothing to call for his own other than the scars his family gave him and the borrowed time on Earth he had left.

Other wolves would've cursed Cronus and Rhea if they were in his shoes. But the Omega graciously accepted everything that happened to him and never once complained. And while he did endured the pain and suffering, he did have some acts of kindness that came his way. The pups broughts songs and jokes while the elder wolves brought him necessities. The pack warriors who were exiled with Anissa did help her in healing his wounds while the cook briought him extra food other than the crackers and water he was allotted. Even Nicholas and Emma made things better by teaching him to read and write.

And from what I also learned, the late seer named Francis Deveraux (no relation to me) and his family did all they could even though they knew Tauren was living on borrowed time. "Francis visited the gods three days before Tauren was killed and was told that he and his parents would be joining my brother in death after giving Eric and his chosen mate their blessings to rule the pack as they saw fit," Anissa had explained earlier. "The morning after being exiled, I learned that Francis and his parents were found dead in the hotel room that they stayed in. Natural causes."

Surely the gods will award the seer and his family places of honor as they will for the exiles for showing grace and favor towards my late beloved.

But as for those who treated Tauren as if he was a punching bag, I would make sure that they would face a swift and agonizing death for their crimes. How I would love to see them burn in the underworld for their sins. But it would be only when the gods and goddesses will allow it to begin. For now, I must bide my time and prepare for my beloved's burial.

"Zach?"

I turned around to face my best friend and future Beta apparent standing at the doorway. "Come in," I said. "And close the door."

Dominic did so, shaking his head as water droplets left his hair. Must've been raining out. "It's a soaker out there," he said. "Must be the tears from Aurora Herself. Anyway, your parents have been informed of what happened yesterday and your dad wants you to make sure to give Tauren the royal burial."

I shook my head, my eyes never leaving the decapitated body of my baby. "I don't think I can given the state he's currently in," I replied, my voice thick with emotion. "Those beasts nearly made him into dog food. They tore out his organs, the foolish Alpha pup eating the heart and sharing it with his harlot of a chosen mate as a wedding cake. I don't think I can, Dominic."

You must, young wolf prince, intoned the  soft voice of Aurora as a bright light began to surround Tauren's corpse. Be not afraid as even the hands of my brother cannot and will not erase such beauty. While Tauren will remain in heaven, his body...will be made whole.

The light soon faded, my eyes widening in shock as I saw my Omega still lying in repose, but all evidence of damage being nonexistent. His skin was now clear of all dirt and his body was fully repaired. He wore all white with a single red rose encased in his entwined fingers.

"Thank you," I breathed, kneeling down in prayer before staggering to my feet and kissing the lips of Tauren. They tasted of lilac, seawater, and honey- a beautiful combination.

Be well, prince of wolves, came the voice of Aurora. May the stars in the sky cover you with blessings.

"Ever your servant," Dominic and I replied softly in unison as the tears began to fall once more.

Tauren, know that once justice has been enacted, your legacy will live on. I will make sure that Eric Girbaud and his pack pay for their sins. Your death triggered a butterfly effect that is truly like none other.

I will see you again, but not yet. Not yet.

Poor Zechariah! Don't you want to just give him a hug?! I know I do, and I'm writing this!

Anyway, the next chapter's going to be brief as we see Cronus and Rhea converse with Artemis on what they witnessed regarding Prince Zechariah and the exiles and what'll happen next for Eric and his clan. You don't want to miss it!

The song for this chapter is: "Voyage to Atlantis" by The Isley Brothers. Dedicating this chapter to Twoony  and zoe_grimm. Love y'all!
