17: The House
We headed to the headquarters of the Rebels. It turned out that everyone who helped us with the bombing were Rebels. There were thousands of them and I had no idea all along.
The headquarters were underground of a giant forest in the middle of nowhere, I had no idea how far we were away from the hospital which was located in the capital of Clevenia. We got inside by entering an old wooden trap door in the ground that was covered with leaves and fake grass. As we stepped inside, I could feel the chill of the air conditioned room and goosebumps arose on my skin. I was taken to a conference room, and it reminded too much of the the first time I met with Mr. Graff. But he was dead.
The conference room was filled with many unfamiliar faces, all staring at me, devouring my thoughts. The man at the far end of the table stood up and said with a big welcome smile, "We have been waiting for this day since you were born, Miss Blackwood." He walked confidently around the table to meet me. "You have been our project and I'm personally delighted to be the first of us to meet you." Who was us? "Let me introduce myself: I am Michael Jones. Mr. Jones for you. I am the head executive of the Champion project and helped you lead the Rebels to the bombing of the National Hospital." Part of me was delighted to meet this man who made this all come together, yet the other part of me felt aggravated that people felt like I couldn't lead alone. I was the Champion. No one else.
"It's an honor to meet you Mr. Jones. Thank you so much for all that you have done for, well, for this country."
"Oh, Malia. None of this would be present without you!" He meant without my Artist. I didn't choose this.
I give a proud smile and take a seat in an empty chair at the elongated table next to a stern looking man about half my height.
"We have gathered here to plan out the presentation given by Malia herself to the country after the House is down." The House was the government that ruled Clevenia.
"Wait, what? Are we overthrowing the House?" I slouched down in my seat as everyone looked at me with fierce eyes after I interrupted.
"Why yes. In fact, the mission should be complete in a few minutes." How had I not known about this?
"Okay. Proceed." I said, trying to be professional.
"Who has the script for Malia?"
The stern man next to me waved his paper into the air and handed it over to Mr. Jones.
He looked through it as the rest of the room was silent.
"Very well. Malia, we will put you under a camera and some lights and you will read this off the screen in front of you. Make it sound like the world we know is coming to an end, and a better one is beginning. That is what is happening after all."
As soon as I nodded yes, two girl swooped me up out of my chair and took me to a dressing room, where I was given a fresh set of clothes, and had makeup put on my face. My hair was also straightened and pinned up, all while I was reading over the script.
"Okay Malia, try to get this in one go." I nodded, and looked straight into the camera. I then look to the screen on the side and recite.
"People of Clevenia, my name is Malia Blackwood, and I am a Champion. I have freed you all of the chains that bound you against your freedom, against your will to choose. I am proud to say that from this point onward, Tattoos will no longer be enforced. Your fate will no longer be dawned upon you, choosing your future. Mr. Jones will be our new Leader, and I will keep fighting for Clevenia to strive toward a better and safer place. Thank you."
It was short, but powerful. I felt that I had addressed the message clearly. I just wasn't sure how the people would react. I knew there would be riots, because there were always people on the other side. I just had to be prepared for it.
An officer barged into the room after the shoot was over.
"Mr. Jones. The House is officially down."
One more part and it's over you guys!!
