Chapter 3
Chapter 3
"Do you want to drive, or do you want me to?" I asked Jack as I locked the front door behind us. Honestly I don't remember seeing his car, only that small moving truck...for all I know he could be one of those guys that ride a bike everywhere!
"I can drive!" He blurted loudly. I smiled at him and his enthusiasm, causing his face to turn a cute red color.
"Aww, you look so cute when your embarrassed!" I couldn't help but reach up and pinch his cheek, grinning like a fool.
"Erm..." He choked out, unable to talk. I quickly spun around on my heel and walked down the steps...and yesss I did mean to put the extra sway to my hips as I walked away.
I turned back to him to find him still on the porch...pretending as if he wasn't just staring at my butt. I let him get away with it, just like the few other times today...
"Come on Jack! Aren't you hungry?" I smirked up at him, putting a hand at my hip and cocking it to the side.
"Hungry?" He squeaked weirdly, pushing his glasses back up on his nose. I have a feeling he forgot all about the food...
"Yeah, you know...dinner." I said. Jack blushed again and I couldn't help but smile, this man sure has no idea how cute he is...
"Oh yeah, yeah I'm hungry. My car is around the corner..." Jack hurried down to my side, offering me his arm. Hmm, a sexy nerd and a gentleman? I swear I'm going to end up eating this man up one day!
We started walking, him leading the way slightly and it was nice being this close to him. I could suddenly notice the smell of his cologne as it filtered through the warm night air. I took notice of how tall he was standing next to my own tall frame. I even took notice of the fact that he had a small scar just beside the natural cleft on his chin...
"Here we are." Jack said. I was too busy checking him out to notice we had even stopped walking...hmm.
The sight of his car in front of me had me releasing my hold on his forearm and shrieking like teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert! Bieber!! A 1969 Chevy Camero SS...midnight blue...racing stripes...Oh. My. God!
"This is your car?!" I couldn't help but run my hands over its smooth, shiny hood. And here I thought he rode around on a bike...
"Yeah, it was my fathers..." He said grinning.
"This is my dream car...please tell me that this doesn't have the 6.5 Liter V8 engine." I leaned leaned over, looking in the window taking in the black leather seats and original dashboard.
"Y-you know cars?" He stuttered in awe.
"I know this car. Is it locked?" I asked, wanting to get in, like now.
Jack hurried to my side to unlock the passenger side door and open it for me. I instantly climbed in, almost sighing in pleasure. Jack closed the door for me and rushed around to his side while I inspected the inside, touching everything...
"Where to?" Jack asked as he slid into the driver's seat, his scent overtaking the smell of the leather.
"An old friend of mine owns a pub downtown...head that way." I said still smiling like an idiot...I mean come on! This car made Jack's nerdy sex appeal just that more hot...
"Okay." Jack replied putting his keys in the ignition and turning it over. The engine roared to life beneath us and I clenched my thighs together in excitement. I know I looked like a straight up idiot, giggling and clapping my hands as he shifted the beautiful car into gear.
"I love this car, Jack. Seriously LOVE this car..." I said, finally calming down.
"Thank you." He said shyly.
I turned to look at him, taking in his strong features under him dark framed glasses and unruly mop of dark hair. He really has no idea how much potential he has...untuck that boring shirt, add a coat and maybe some boots? Hmm, maybe not...this look is like a present wrapped in newspaper, boring on the outside but a nice little surprise inside!
"Um...so where do we need to go now?" Jack asked as I watched his kissable lips move.
"Turn left up there on main." I directed. "It's the last brick building on the right...Josie's Pub." I smiled saying the name.
"I think I've rode my bike past there." He said in understanding. See he does ride a bike!
He followed my directions and pulled into the small, yet full, gravel parking lot. Josie's place was like my second home...when you have old hippies as parents, what do you expect! Speaking of parents...there is their car. I should have known...Friday night at the pub where else would they be?
"Well this should be interesting." I mumbled aloud.
"Sun?" Jack asked from my right. I hadn't even heard him get out of the car, let alone open my door for me.
"Sorry." Now it was my turn to blush, trying to hide it as I climbed out of the car and judging by the small smirk I saw on Jack's face I didn't hide it very well.
"So do you come here often?" He asked lamely as he offered me his arm.
I giggled at him, rolling my eyes. "I basically grew up here. My parents' old hippy friend own it and they've worked here for years."
"Your parents? They work here?" He asked sounding shocked.
"Yep. Come on! My mom'll love you." I then had to pull him to the back door. No, I didn't go through the front. Josie would kill me for that...
I pulled out my keys from my useless clutch purse and unlocked the heavy metel door, pulling it open. Some random classic rock song filtered out to us and I hurried in smiling. I started weaving my way through the kitchen yelling out the random hellos to the kitchen staff as the called out my name when I walked by.
When I reached the swinging doors that led to the bar I hesitated looking back a nervous Jack. "Um...my parents are a little wierd so...yeah." I pushed through the doors and spotted Mom instantly.
Mom was behind the bar her long black hair tied back in a leather strap and her sparkling blue eyes staring straight into mine. "Sunshine!"
"Where?!" Another female head popped up from behind the bar. Josie's bleached blonde head whipped in my direction and her plump form flew my way. "Sunshine! It's 'bout time you came in here! Oo, who you got there?"
"Josie, this is my new roommate Jack." I chuckled as she pushed me out of the way, bombarding him with questions. I shook my head at her before stepping up to meet my mom behind the counter.
"Hey baby! Who's your friend?" She asked right away.
"That's Jack, my roommate I found on Craigslist. Remember, I had all those interviews today."
"Nice. He sure is cute." She said cocking her head to the side as she watched Jack try and talk to Josie. I could tell that her overpowering attitude was scaring him a little bit but it was funny to watch him turn down the advances of a middle-aged woman.
"Cute? I don't see cute..." I said. I saw sexy...I really do have a big thing for nerds.
"Knowing you? Probably not...he is right up your alley. Tall, dark hair, glasses...yep. That boy is all you, Sunshine." Mom bumped her hip into mine, winking. "Is that why you picked him to share that house with you?"
"Ha! Nope, luck o the draw...he's the only one that stuck around long enough to get the offer." My eyes connected with his baby blues and I laughed at his panicked expression saying, "his cute dorkiness does have some serious appeal though. Mom you got some customers, I've got to go save Jack. Oh and have one of the boys bring a couple beers and burgers back my way when you got a sec, please."
When I saw Josie trying to unbutton Jack's brilliant white shirt I quickly rushed back to his side, slapping her hand away. "Josie. Behave."
"You just want him all to yourself." She pouted at me.
"Your right. Now go flirt with your waiters and leave my roomie alone." I laughed pushing her back to the direction of the bar. Grabbing Jack's hand I weaved my way through the odd cluster of tables, past the pool table and over to my favorite booth in the corner.
"I've got a couple burgers and beer coming our way soon. I hope that's okay?" I slid into the booth, Jack on the other side, his jean clad leg brushing my knee under the table. I couldn't resist crossing my legs so my calf was flush against his. I was rewarded with another one of his cute blushes.
"Beer sounds good." He croaked out and as if on cue one of the waiters dropped a bucket of tall-necks on the table between us before walking away to another booth. Jack reached into the bucket, pulling out one of the bottles and cracking it open. When he set it down in front of me before grabbing his own I smiled up at him in thanks.
"Man, I am starving!" I commented as I felt my stomach growl, a grimace on my face...
"I know. I think your mom heard your stomach growl from by the bar." Jack smiled, showing his straight white teeth.
"Makin' jokes about my stomach now are we?" I winked at him taking a sip from my beer.
"No...yes?...Aw hell I don't know! You make me so nervous, Sun. I don't know if I'm comin' or goin' half the time..." His head fell to the table with a 'thunk'. "I'm such a stupid nerd." His voice muffled due to the table.
I couldn't help it. I laughed. Hard. Jack really is a dork and he knows it but he just can't seem to see how freakin' hot he is! Plus with me he doesn't have to try, I like him just as he is. Stuttering and all!
"Jack, why don't you just stop worrying so much! I'm not going to judge you or kick you out of the house just because you are a bit of a nerd! Come on, buddy! Drink up, cause here comes our food." I encouraged. His head shot up at the mention of food, causing me to giggle again. Jack only blushed before a different waiter set our plates down in front of us, telling us to enjoy.
"Dig in." I said before grabbing the giant sandwich and taking a very un-lady-like bite.
After downing like half my burger in just a few bites I finally pulled my eyes off my plate long enough to look back up at Jack. I raised an eyebrow when I noticed him staring at me, not even a bite taken from his own sandwich.
"What?" I said covering my mouth with my hand. I may not have any table manners but it doesn't mean I am gonna spray my food all over him...
"You really were hungry..." He said although I knew he really wanted to comment on me stuffing my face.
I shook my head at him before finishing off the rest of my food. When I ate as much as thus dress would allow me to, I sat back and sighed. Oh, that was good...
"Oh my God, you're still eating!" I laughed watching Jack eat. He had to be the neatest eater I've ever seen! His napkin was in his lap and only about half of his food gone...did he really use a fork and a knife to eat a cheese burger?
"I'm done now... Not everyone can scarf down a burger in ninety seconds flat you know..." He mumbled.
"Oh, I know. I'm just good like that." I said in all seriousness. Jack's eyes flew up to mine at the conceded remark. I shrugged smirking at him.
"Sunshine!" A voice rang through the crowded room. I looked over to the bar, following my mom's voice. She stood behind the bar, barely visible behind the crowd of people waiting for their drink.
"What?!" I yelled back, fake annoyance in my voice.
"Josie took off on me again! Help!" She was then out of my sight, taking the next person's order.
"I swear that woman takes off every time I walk in the door!" I grumbled giving Jack an apologetic glance. "Sorry. Let me help her get caught up and I will be right back..."
"I can help if you like." He offered standing up with me.
"Okay, come on." I grabbed his hand, weaving my way through the crowd. We ducked under the bar just as the door opened and more people came rushing in.
"Okay who's first?" Jack yelled over the noise, clapping his hands.
"I'll take a Liquid Cocaine!" A cute blonde at the bar yelled. I expected Jack to turn to me and ask what's in it but he surprised me by pulling together the ingredients and serving them together in a cup... Well the man knows his drinks!
I shrugged then turned to the people yet to be served. "Alright, who's up?"
"Three shots of whiskey." An older man called out. I smiled his way before lining up the shot glasses and filling them with the drink he requested. The man threw a twenty on the bar and picked up two of the glasses. "That ones yours!" He nodded to the last shot before disappearing into the crowd.
"Thanks!" I yelled out, downing the shot and grabbing the twenty.
"Sun?" Jack's voice called out. I looked in his direction, still taking orders. He really had his hands full over there...women had lined up in front of him, flirting and buying him shots which he had yet to drink...
"Just drink them!" I yelled back handing a couple of cute college guys their beers.
"All of them?" He asked grabbing another bottle of liquor and spinning it in his hand so the nozzle faced down. I couldn't help but watch him for a couple seconds, his strong hands expertly handled the bottles, spinning and throwing them like a pro. I swear this man shocked me more and more every minute...
"Hey sexy! You gonna help me next?" I looked away from Jack to the guy who spoke.
"Sure. What can I getcha?" I asked.
The guy looked me up and down...eww gross...then leaned in close before saying, "I will take you. How much you cost?"
"Excuse me?" I asked. This man so did not ask me that!
"How much you cost, suga'?" He repeated like I really wanted to hear that again...
"Not for sale but I can sell you a drink." I said forcing a smile.
"There's no cops here babe...for real, how much for a night?" He said grabbing my wrist.
"Let me go." I said forcefully.
He only pulled me closer, so close I could smell the amount of liquor he'd already consumed. "Come on no need to be shy."
"I said. Let. Me. Go." I tried again as his grip tightened painfully.
"Sun?" Jack was suddenly as my back glaring at the man across the counter.
"Go get your own whore. This one's mine." The man growled.
"Sir, I suggest you let her go and apologise." Jack said darkly. The man's grip tightened even more and I couldn't help but wince in pain.
"Who's gonna make me? A little geek like you?!" The man laughed.
Truthfully it all happened so fast I barely saw it. One second I thought my wrist was going to break from the pressure of his grip and the next the man was on the floor, his eyes rolled back into his head.
"God, that fuckin' hurt!" Jack groaned shaking out his hand.
I laughed loudly throwing my arms around Jack in a big hug. "That was awesome Jack!"
"It was nothing..." He said blushing as I let him go.
I leaned over the bar looking at the knocked out man again just as he started to come to. I hurried around the counter, Jack right on my heels, and stood over the man. I watched his eyes flutter open as he tried to sit up.
"What happened?" The man asked shaking his head.
"You just got knocked the fuck out!" I taunted laughing before kicking him in his side. "And I ain't no whore either!"
