I cried in my hotel room for a couple hours straight. It didn't feel like it was helping at all. B/F was still sleeping. The jet lag must have hit her hard.
A knock sounded on my door for the second time today. But this time I was much less enthusiastic to open it. I didn't move at first but then came a second. Then a third. All of them soft though.
I got up to peer through the peep hole. I wasn't ready to talk to Harrison if it was him. But it wasn't. It was Harry. I opened it up.
"You heard?" I ask.
"Not all but most. Some of us did," Harry says truthfully. "I thought you could use a friend. You know one that isn't asleep." He jokes and I chuckle a little despite the couple tears rolling down my cheeks.
I let him in. I tell him about how I felt. That I felt stupid that I had fallen for someone who didn't feel the same way back.
"Hey, you're not the stupid one. He is. If he can't see what an amazing girl you are then fuck him. Well not 'fuck him' but like— you know what I mean." I chuckle at him trying to correct himself.
I missed these moments with Harry. Where he could make me laugh and feel good no matter what. Exactly what a best friend is for.
I go in for a hug. "Thank you so much Harry. For being here for me," I tell him. One of his hands goes up and down my back soothingly.
"Don't ever change Y/N. You're perfect the way you are." His words sooth me. And that's all I needed for now.
Minutes turned to hours. And Harry was making me feel better. He showed me pictures he took. Funny ones included. It was nice to have another one of my best friends back. I started to fall asleep as we were watching something on TV. Another knock on the door wakes me up. Harry looks down at me. I get up and hurry, quietly, to the door. I look through the peep hole.
"Is it him?" Harry asks, sitting up. I nod my head. "Do you want me to-" I shake my head and signal for him just to stay. I exit the hotel room with my arms cross. I don't even look at him.
"Just so you know, nothing happened between that girl and I last night," Harrison says.
"The fact that you had anything to do with her in the first place. After what happened last night." He's silent. Probably trying to think of something to say. Fortunately I had a lot. "Is that why you came up with this whole thing? So you could fuck me? Because if that's what you wanted, congratulations."
Harrison's eyes bore into mine. "You know that's not how it was," he says, "last night-"
"Last night was a mistake." I cut him off. "Physical stuff may not mean a lot to you but to me it does."
"Who says last night meant nothing to me?" Harrison questions loudly.
"You did, when you were with another girl right after you were done with me." My tone was venomous. But I lost it as quick as I gained it. "God, I'm so sick of being second best, or fake best."
"I- you-," Harrison struggles to figure out what to say.
"Just leave, Harrison. I don't want to talk to you," I go back towards the door, opening it. He grabs my wrist to stop me.
"Can we go inside and talk?" He asks. Harry steps up when he sees Harrison's hands on me and me looking distressed.
"Harrison, she asked you to leave. So just leave her alone," Harry says calmly. Harrison looks from me to Harry and then scoffs. His grip on my wrist tightens.
"This isn't about me and other girls. This is about you and Harry!" At this point Harrison was yelling. Loud. Harry pulls me away from Harrison's grip. "Are you serious? This is why you broke up with me? Because you're still in love with this guy who ditched you a long time ago?"
"Come on, mate. Let's just go," Tom says. I hadn't even noticed he showed up. His hand was on Harrison's shoulder but Harrison roughly pulls away.
"Maybe you're the one that slept with me and is now leaving me for someone else? Unless I'm mistaken, you were the one who instigated the whole thing last night." Silence for a few seconds. "But it doesn't matter, right? Because we were only pretending."
"Yeah, but you cared for her," Tom states.
"You were fake dating Harrison?" B/F just got out of her room to see what was going on. Her eyebrows furrowed at me. "How could you not tell me that? I'm your best friend." My eyes soften. "You knew?" She asks Tom. He doesn't say anything, which in itself says a lot. B/F goes back into her room.
"B/F wait!" I shout but her doors already shut.
"I didn't mean-" Harrison's tone is much softer, apologetic.
"Go away, Harrison!" I yell.
He stares at me with sad eyes. "You were never second best, Y/N," he says before walking down the hall.
Tom gives me a look. "I told you not to hurt him," he says, almost like he's disappointed. He follows Harrison. How did I end up the bad guy here?
I turn around to see Harry right at my door. Shocked and maybe a little hurt.
"You're in love with me?" He questions.
"Harry-" I start.
"But you slept with him?" He sounded incredulous.
"Harry, you know me. I would never try to hurt someone like that," I plead with him.
He shakes his head. "That's just it. I don't know you. Not anymore. A fake relationship? That's not the Y/N I used to know." My head hangs low. "You need to get your shit together. Then come talk to me." He, just like the others, walks away. Now leaving me by myself.
It's funny how in just a few short minutes I had lost everyone. Must be a world record.
