Today is Saturday. My day off. And all I wanted to do was stay at home in my pajamas, reading my romance novels and baking cookies. So that's what I'm doing.
I add each ingredient into the bowl carefully and then mix it with a wooden spoon. This is what I do when I'm home alone. It's not much, but I enjoy it.
There's a knock on the door. I soon become confused. No one ever comes over on Saturdays.
I wipe my hands on my apron and go to open the door. Surprised to find Harrison on the other side.
"Hi," he says with a smile, taking in my appearance, which I'm sure isn't the best. With Marvel pajama pants, one of Dad's old t-shirts, and covered in flour. "You look..." He starts but then ends up chuckling instead.
I roll my eyes while crossing my arms. "Thanks," I mutter.
"You got," He begins, lifting his hand up to my head, "flour in your hair." He attempts to brush it out with his fingers. "Can I come in?" He asks.
"Uh, sure," I push the door open further to let him through.
"So what are you making?" We reach the current mess of a kitchen.
"Cookies."
"From scratch? You know you can just buy pre-made cookie dough? It's a whole lot easier," he states.
"But it doesn't taste better," I counter remark.
I began to roll the dough into small pieces and placing them on the pan. Harrison and I continued to converse about anything that came into mind. He was very easy to talk to.
I had set the timer and now all we had to do was wait. So we kept chatting until Dad came home.
Suddenly I became nervous. I haven't brought a boy over since I was 13. I wasn't sure how he was going to react.
"Hey, Dad," I say trying to keep my nerves calm. "I hope you don't mind, he just wanted to come over for a bit. You remember—"
"Little Harrison Osterfield. You're all grown up now!" Dad said in amazement. My eyebrows scrunch together as Harrison walked over to him.
"Mr. L/N. It's so nice to see you again," Harrison shakes Dad's hand. What? "I was wondering if I could borrow Y/N for tonight. There's a party next door at the Holland's and I was hoping I could take her."
"You didn't tell me about this," I protest but Harrison ignores me as does Dad.
"Of course! That's fine with me. I've been telling her to get out more," Dad says.
"No," I say but it's like they can't even hear me.
"I promise I'll have her home by twelve. No later," Harrison promises.
"Perfect," finally Dad turns to me, "you're not going out like that, are you?"
My mouth just hangs open.
"Go get changed," Dad says,"it'll be fun."
I narrow my eyes at Harrison, who has a smug grin on his face. There was no way I was getting out of this. And he knew it. I groan before heading upstairs.
"No drugs and no hands," I hear Dad say to Harrison before getting out of earshot.
