hazel's eyes fluttered open to see the sun rising above the water. she rolled over to see jj sleeping above her and her head was still in his lap. his arm was draped over her body, hugging her close and a smile formed on her face at the sight.

jj had always been an interesting character. he was always nice to her and millie, and wanted to include them in the group's activities most of the time. she didn't know what she did to earn his friendship, but she was happy she had it.

she was surprised that jj had just let her sleep and didn't push her off of him or something to sleep in a more comfortable position. she took his arm off of her and slowly sat up, looking out at the sunrise again. it was absolutely beautiful and she wished she had her phone on her to take a picture, but she was pretty sure she left it in the car. she noticed john b swaying on his hammock and walked over to the boy.

"hey," she smiled, sitting on the other side, in between his legs. "couldn't sleep?"

john b shook his head. "not really. i probably slept like three hours." he chuckled. "you looked pretty comfortable with jj."

she rolled her eyes at the way he had said that and shook her head. "he's just a friend."

"does he know that?" john b rose an eyebrow. "he definitely likes you."

"i don't think so." hazel shook his her head.

a scoff came from behind the girl and she looked over her shoulder to see kie. "are you kidding me? he looks at you the way millie looks at john b."

"what?" hazel frowned as kie sat down in the grass. "there's no way."

"i don't know." john b shrugged his shoulders. "but i need to take his feelings into consideration, so i feel like i have to apologize for going to prom with you."

"what?" hazel frowned. "did you not have a good time?"

"oh my god," john b's eyes widened. "no, i had a great time. it was amazing and something i never thought i'd ever experience. i just feel like i didn't take jj's feelings seriously and he was probably really hurt by me going with you."

"should i talk to him?" hazel asked, looking between the two pogues. "i mean, i could explain that millie wanted me to ask you."

"maybe." kie shrugged her shoulders. "it might be a good idea."

"i should also make it clear that i just wanna be friends with him." hazel stated.

"you just did." jj's voice spoke from behind the girl and she looked over her shoulder with a frown.

hazel quickly got off the hammock. "jj, let me explain. i—"

"you don't have to explain anything." jj shook his head. "i get it. you just want to be friends. i'm okay with that." he gave her a small smile and she reached out, hugging him. "so, why the hell are we all awake at an ungodly hour?" he chuckled and hazel smiled, returning to her spot on the hammock. jj sat on the grass next to kiara and hazel began talking about how terrible john b's dancing was at prom, causing everyone to laugh.

pope soon woke up, joining the group and the five of them watched the sun finish rising before they made their way inside to gather hazel's things before deciding to go to hazel's house for breakfast. john b, kie, and pope took the van while jj decided to drive with hazel. the two blondes jammed out to music as they drove and when they arrived to hazel's house they raced up to the front door.

"john b!" millie squealed when she saw the boy. she hugged his waist and the boy smiled, rubbing the little girl's back as hazel started to get the stuff out to make pancakes and bacon. kie helped the girl make the bacon while pope and jj focused on the pancakes, having a contest to see who could flip their pancake the best. john b was stuck in the living room having a tea party with millie.

"give the boy some breathing room, millie." hazel chuckled, entering the living room once the bacon was complete. "there's breakfast in the kitchen, mill. go get some while it's hot."

millie gave her older sister a smile before running into the kitchen, leaving the two sixteen year olds alone. "thank you for being so good to millie. she really loves you."

"it's no problem." john shrugged his shoulders, rising from the floor. he approached the girl and gave her a smile. "i really like millie. she's cool and likes me for me."

"i like you for you." hazel smirked. "do you like me too?"

"of course." he bowed and the girl giggled before grabbing his hand.

"let's get some food." she led him into the kitchen and they joined the rest of the group, grabbing food. they sat around the island eating their food and talked about what their plans were for the summer since school was almost over.

when they finished eating they all cleaned up before the pogues decided it was time to leave since they all had homework to do before school the next day. jj and pope raced to the van while kie walked behind them, shaking her head at their stupidity, and john b stood in the doorway with millie and hazel.

millie said her goodbyes to the boy before heading off to finish her tea party and hazel smiled at the boy. "i had fun this weekend."

"me too." john b smiled. he leaned down to press a kiss to the girl's cheek and shoved his hands under his pockets. "i'll see you later." he said, heading towards the van. "thanks for the best weekend ever."

"likewise, routledge." she smiled, heading back inside.

"john b likes you." millie giggled as the sixteen year old entered the living room.

hazel rolled her eyes. "no, he doesn't."

"he kissed your cheek." millie pointed out. "only boys that like you kiss your cheek."

"not true." hazel scoffed.

"it is true." millie crossed her arms over her chest with a pout. "you know i'm right." she rose from the floor and spit her tongue out at the blonde before making her way towards her room, leaving hazel in the living room alone in her thoughts.
