Rescues & Realisations

Remus was afraid that Lily was going to gnaw her fingers off, her aggressive nibbling and unmoving gaze at the door made him only extremely worried.

"What if this Walburga cow has hurt James? I've only just realised how much I like the bastard." Lily voiced worriedly, still not stopping her menacing munching.
"Oh, you must really like the guy if you're calling him a bastard." Remus laughed.
Lily whipped her head around and gave Remus a strong scowl, before turning back around to continue her staring at the big, metal back door.

"And you must really like Sirius to have traipsed all the way down to London to come to get him." Lily snarked back and Remus heard the smugness in her tone.
"Oh wheesht Evans, go back to your chomping." Remus dismissed, glad Lily had her back turned to him so that he didn't have to hide his blush. He wanted her to be wrong, but she wasn't. The more he thought about Sirius, the more he wished that he had closed the gap between their lips in his dimly lit shop only a few days ago. He cursed Dorcas again, wondering what would have happened if she hadn't interrupted.

Remus patted down his pockets, trying to locate the last of his cigs, luckily only a quick search earned him the reward of one, - very crumpled - cigarette. This, however, didn't stop him from lighting it and taking a healthy draw. This had clearly caught Lily's attention as she whipped her head around and plucked the cig from Remus's fingers, taking a puff herself.

"Oh come on Lil, that's my last cig." Remus moaned, grabbing it back as soon as it was out of her gob.
"Finders keepers." She sing-songed, making Remus's blood boil.
"That doesn't count if it was literally in my hand--"
"--Not my fault you don't have a faster reaction time." Lily shrugged, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"Listen here you ginger bellend--"

"--Bellend? If I'm a bellend you're the saggy ball sack!" Lily snapped, turning around to stick her tongue out.

Remus was about to tell Lily where she could shove her ginger bellend, but at that moment, James Potter crashed through the door.
"Alright children calm down, we can all be saggy ball sacks." James laughed, and Lily spun around to give James her signature 'bitch face'
"Okay Lily, you may wanna wipe whatever the hell that is off of your face, because.." James stopped for a second, clearly going for a dramatic pause.
"Because?" Remus asked, snubbing out his cig with the toe of his boot.
"Because I have located Sirius," James said, and Remus and Lily immediately followed him into the kitchen. Excited to get their leather-clad boy back.

"Are you kidding me?" Sirius laughed lightly, feeling like if he didn't laugh, he would probably burst out into tears. Clearly, his Mother wasn't joking, but that didn't stop the disbelief bubbling up in his chest.
"You are legally obligated as the heir-" Walburga started again, arms crossed, any form of fake niceness completely gone by this point.
"Am I fuck! You disowned me, you're the one who cut me from the will, you're-" Sirius began, hating how small he sounded, how small he felt.
"You're the one who disgraced this family, however, your cousin is being extremely generous by agreeing to marry you." Walburga said plainly, like someone marrying their cousin was the most casual thing ever.

Sirius shook his head in disbelief, he couldn't believe this, he hated himself for coming here, for being so naive, of course, they were going to force him to sign, now that Reg was...
Now that Reg was gone, of course, they would need someone to run this horrible company.

"I am not marrying Bellatrix! Are you absolutely mental? Do you hear yourself?!" Sirius said wearily, looking at his Mother's pristine face. This was what she was doing during her son's funeral, instead of crying her eyes out on a pew like a normal, sane Mother - she was already moving on, forcing her other son to marry his cousin. Sirius couldn't comprehend how a person could have such little empathy.

"Oh Sirius, I thought you would have grown out of this by now." Walburga tutted, acting as if Sirius was being crazy for not wanting to marry his own relative.
"Grown out of what? Not wanting to marry someone I share DNA with?" Sirius scoffed, stepping back slightly.
"Grown out of this whole," Walburga waved a hand over Sirius dismissively, and Sirius finally realised what she actually meant.
"Mother, you are aware that one cannot simply grow out of being gay right? It isn't something that changes, just like how you being an absolute cunt will never change." Sirius said, before attempting to leave the room, however, he was stopped as he walked right into the chest of his Father.

"I heard you were having trouble with this one Walburga." Orion drawled, looking down at his son with nothing other than utter contempt. Sirius felt his stomach drop and his skin crawl. He then realised that they wouldn't take 'no' for an answer.

"Right Potter, take us to him." Lily commanded after the trio left the kitchen, only receiving a couple of odd looks from waiters clearly not paid enough to care, for once Remus was glad that the Black family were horrible people.
"Okay, but one problem, he's with his Mum." James said, grabbing a tray and attempting to blend in.
"Alone?" Remus asked, and James nodded.
"Shit," Remus said, grabbing one of the glasses of wine from the tray, clearly the Blacks wanted the reception held right here in the church, not willing to spend more money on a better venue - or better wine.
"Okay, so we rescue him from his Mum, how hard can that be?" Lily said, grabbing another glass from the tray and downing it all at once, "Damn this wine is terrible," Lily coughed.

Remus looked over to the back of the church, noticing a tall, angular man walk into a back room, opening the curtain and stepping in.
"Is that.." Remus began.
"Shit, that's his dad," James said, following Remus's eye line and seeing the apparent father of Sirius. Remus thought he slightly resembled Sirius. A version of Sirius that hasn't smiled in forty years, but somewhat like Sirius nevertheless.
"Okay so now we just have to rescue from his Mum and evil bond villain Dad, how hard can it be?" Lily winced, and Remus looked around them. He figured in the worst-case scenario he could pull the fire alarm, but he didn't want to ruin his brother's funeral.
"We could just go... In?" James said, shrugging his shoulders.
Lily scoffed slightly but Remus looked over to James and smiled.
"We could just go in," Remus said and James beamed, stepping forward - before being stopped by Remus sticking his arm out.

"Not you, you absolute plonk, they'll recognize you - go wait in the car," Remus said authoritatively. Clearly, James didn't like the idea of this, as his crumpled face spoke volumes.
"What? No, I'm not just waiting in the--"
"I'll go out with you if you come to the car," Lily said, stepping forward and raising a brow.
"On a date?" James said, his face now in a state of shock and bliss.
"Yes, on a date - coming to the car?" Lily said, smiling and reaching out a hand for James to take.
Remus smiled appreciatively at Lily and she whispered in his ear,
" Go get your man Lupin."

Remus got changed into a uniform in the toilet that he had nicked from a shelf in the kitchen. He stepped out of the stall and looked at the bowtie in his hand, and chuckled slightly to himself, before stuffing it in his waistcoat pocket, and walking out of the bathroom, grabbing a tray of champagne and walking towards the curtain.

Sirius fell silent as his father pulled out the papers, he was reading but Sirius couldn't hear them, how idiotic could he have been? How stupid and naive. James couldn't save him this time, he was away up in Scotland. He was stuck, he felt like throwing up.
"Sirius." Orion Black said, snapping Sirius out of his comatose state. His father's eyes seemed so hollow, Sirius wondered if Orion had ever loved anything in his life. He clearly had never loved his family.

Money , he loves money.

"What?" Sirius asked numbly, he couldn't feel. He was stuck, this was it.
"I asked if you needed a pen?" Orion said, and Sirius knew it wasn't a question, it was a demand. Orion held out a fountain pen, the name Black Inc engraved in the side. Sirius wanted to scream.

Sirius took the pen, looking at it in his palm. Maybe if he signed then they would love him? Maybe if he- Sirius stopped himself. They would never love him, they couldn't love. Reg signed these papers and look at him now, dead. Sirius looked back up at the two, feeling extremely trapped. He realised that they'd planned this. This room was totally relcused, with no other exits or entries other than that velvet curtain.

Sirius picked up the pen again, looking at the thick ink that lined them, all the disclaimers and conditions and Sirius needed a miracle, he needed a fucking miracle.

"Champagne?" Said a voice, the Scottish accent thick and Sirius could've sworn... He looked up from the papers to see the tall lanky frame of Remus Lupin, clad in a waiter uniform Remus had never looked more beautiful.
"I'll take one." Sirius said, eyes locked with Remus's, hope returning to him once again. He was Sirius fucking Black and was he hell gonna sign those stupid papers.

Remus smiled politely, walking forward and bringing the tray over. However, he was stopped by Orion, who pushed him back slightly.
"Go, now. Or you're fired." Orion said threateningly, and Walburga smiled slightly - bringing a chill to Sirius, but even under Orion's gaze Remus seemed unaffected, looking him right in the eye and smiling, "Good thing I don't work for you, you bastard."
Sirius had never heard a more sexy sentence in his life. Before Sirius's father could burst out in a venomous rage, Remus chucked the tray and all the glasses at the wall, distracting the two, who were too busy protecting themselves from the glass.

Remus bounded over to Sirius and grabbed his hand, pulling him out of the chair.
"Let's get the fuck out of here, yeah?" Remus said, his accent purring. Sirius nodded eagerly, wanting to snog the life of Lupin. There was no time for that, unfortunately, and Remus pulled Sirius out of the room, running into the kitchen.

"Watch yourself," Remus shouted as the two ran, and Sirius had never felt so free as he was, running through an overcrowded kitchen with a crazy Scotsman.
"Excuse me-" Remus called, ducking under people but never letting go of Sirius's hand. Sirius thought that they'd never get out of that kitchen, but they found the backdoor and sprinted out of it, running down an alley.
"Where are we going?" Sirius panted, and Remus looked around wolfishly - his flushed face only making him look more kissable.

"James and Lily- Where are they?" Remus said breathily, scanning around and looking for something. Sirius couldn't believe that they were here. They came for him. Sirius was about to tell Remus how pretty he looked when the back door opened. A very angry looking Orion Black marched out of the door. Sirius's blood went cold.
"Oh shit," Remus said.

Sirius could feel his heart thumping at a million miles an hour, but he saw something out of the corner of his eye, a tiny red car was speeding towards them, with Lily driving and James beside her, holding the door for dear life. Sirius could have cried there and then. Thankfully the car stopped and Lily screamed through the open window.
"GET IN."

They didn't spare a second look as the two piled into the tiny car, slamming the door behind them, Sirius screamed at his dad from the open window.
"GO FUCK YOURSELF!" He screamed, sticking up a passionate middle finger as the car sped away, all four of them laughing heartily to themselves, Sirius looked at Remus, who was sitting beside him, a wide smile plastered over his face.

Sirius was pretty sure, as he longingly looked at the Scottish bookseller, that he was falling in love with him.
