Y/n had been hanging out with his teammate Meggy at a party hosted by the Newly chummy famous Gamer on the block SMG3 though Meggy had been adamant that something was wrong with him ever since the mission from the previous morning. though no one seemed to believe her you included though you were starting to have doubts about what you said earlier about people being able to change in this situation. But you checked up on Meggy and noticed another co-worker Tari sitting beside her who reacted strangely to you. after saying she left her car in her wallet she bolted before you could ask what that meant.

Meggy was still annoyed and paranoid about SMG3 and was none too pleased when you were less than helpful watching Whimpu tearing up the dance floor. she growled and stormed off leaving you annoyed as well until Tari came up to you wearing a cap. and she seemed more confident.

"Hey BUD you should show me were all BUDS and there's no reason to not say what i really mean so... i like how your eyes dart back and forth when you do math in your head." she said to you. Now if this was any other time this would have made you flustered beyond belief. but right now it seemed awkward since she said it while not blinking or showing any sign of other emotions. and it may have been the lighting but you swear you saw the edges of her iris glow green. but you decided to be polite.

"Oh, thank you." was all you could say before getting swept up into a conga line.

Meggy on the other hand went to look after what SMG3 was doing with Bob. she followed behind hearing the conversation about how they never talk much. she watched as SMG3 let bob into a dark room that shouldn't be dark and confronted him.

That was a mistake on her part for confronting him alone.

with the party at full swing you were getting suspicious of all the similar facial expressions and all the hats everyone wore now and asked if anyone had seen SMG3 around.

Shroomy Mario and Whimpu whipped around and Shroomy sounded a bit off when he spoke.

"Trust in SMG3" he said in a very robotic tone before Mario piped up.

"Unlock all the hidden achievements" he said just as robotic. now things weren't at all adding up.

"that your life's quest path has to offer." Whimpu finished in a similar way. it then began to click slowly but there was no way it was possible right?

"Yeah ok cool. Hey uh has anyone seen Meggy?" you say sensing a terrible fate has befallen your headquarters.

"Don't worry about Meggy she isn't your BUD. She doesn't even have a hat like ours." Tari said trying to dance with you but coming off as super creepy now. it didn't help that EVERYONE rose up behind her confirming what she said. and now you definitely noticed that you WEREN'T seeing things earlier with the glow of green around the iris.

"Yeah, i was gonna ask about those..." you started backing up slowly. "Think ill go see if i can get her one." you said very unnerved about this party.

"Hi Y/N" meggy said super cheerfully behind you shocking you forward and around.

"Oh meggy! i want to say im sorry. I think you're right. Something might be a little off about this party." you say to her.

"No Y/N you were right SMG3 really has changed. We all have!" she said happily. 

"But you said people don't just... where'd you get the hat?" you started then asked.

"What hat?" she asked. Knowing that not ten seconds earlier you were told about the hats you decided to rip off her cap to see what the heck was going on.

"This hat that..." you started before Meggys face split open to reveal a tentacle that hissed at you.

"Oh EW! Here.. put this back on..." you say trying to get what just happened out of your head. but the damage was done. others were revealing the true nature of being a tentacle. they started to tackle and pile on you but you put on your uniform and went to work with your immediate situation and emerged from a flood of green slime. that then began to reform under a cap in the form of meggy.

"Come on Y/N lets be BUDS." she offered with her hand outstretched with the rest of the place chanting it behind her.

you were lucky no one was left to hear your screaming down the hallway with the replicants crawling/running behind you. your wrist communicator blared at you.

"WARNING GLITCH CORRUPTION AT DANGEROUS LEVELS" it said.

"YA THINK?!" you say back in panic and snark. you saw tentacles emerge and used an emergency boost to avoid them. it worked but you overdid it and slammed the top of your head into a door. you quickly open and close the door with the replicant Meggy calling out to you that people can change and you could too before being shut out and you relaxing a bit.

"Glitch Corruption Source Located" your communicator said as you looked into the mother of all Glitches. or at least the mother of the ones outside the door.

"oh fun..." you say sarcastically as the glitch seemed to be asleep untill you started talking.

"Ok take a scan and locate in the Glitch Reference Library." you order the Ai helper "What game is this thing from anyways?" you ask in shock.

"game located: Burrowing Underground Doppelganger Squad." it chirped at you.

"B.U.D.S." you mutter out as you take aim and fire.

this was not requested but i thought it would be fun to throw this together as an "AU while i come up with stuff for the others."
