Chapter 2
"And you want to know why? Because I wasn't about to give up on something- someone that I believed in."
-Olivia Stone, Target Heart

"Eleven people have been confirmed dead and nine in serious condition in hospital. Reports from all over the world are confirming our thoughts. Do we really need the Avengers?" I turned off the TV and sighed. Steve, who Sat opposite me looked at me and put his head in his hands.
"Sometimes we can't avoid it."
"And sometimes we can. I wish that it was more of an avoid than causing it."
Getting up, I sat beside Steve and hugged him before I started talking.
"Remember when we went on that mission in '44?"
"Which one?"
"The one you tried to stop me from going on but I teleported right into the van?" Steve laughed, remembering exactly which mission I was talking about. Our very first mission as Captain America and Gem Stone.
"I was adamant you weren't going to come with."
"Yet, I came with. And you want to know why? Because I wasn't about to give up on something- someone that I believed in. You need to do that too." I kissed his forehead (in a sisterly fashion) and turned around, walking towards Wanda's room.
In '44, Steve and I became government experiments. Two people who shouldn't be alive today. A Doctor Erkenstien creates the super solider serum, a serum to turn someone into a mighty solider.
Well, they had doses for two people. Male and female. Steve was that male and I was dragged into it after I promise I made. Idiot, right?
Anyway, Steve went from a scrawny little dude to this huge hunk of muscle that is known as Captain America. Well, when he dons the striped suit. When he's not in it, he's my Steve. My oldest and best friend.
As for me? I was the experiment gone wrong. Something about my cells sent them whizzing and whirring into a constant hyperactive state. Not only was I made stronger and faster at healing, I was given the abilities of telekinesis, teleportation and telepathy. Handy now, but not so handy when you come out of a metal tin and then all of a sudden, BOOM! You can hear everyone in your head and every time you look somewhere, you teleport and then you break something with a flick of your pinky.
Highly irritating then, as I said. But now? Wanda is like my apprentice. I'm teaching her to use her gifts to help more and to be able to control them.
I leaned up against the door and smiled sadly. She was watching the news, eyes plastered on the screen as they tore down her tiny but important reputation bit by small bit.
"Don't listen to them, Wanda." I told her as I turned it off. She turned around to look at me, her brown eyes sad. She reminded me of me, ninety or so years ago.
"I killed those people. It's my fault that it happened." I walked in and sat on her bed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
"No, it's my fault. I panicked and I was prepared to protect everyone else and die with Steve. I should of see. What you were doing. It's my fault because I failed to help you when I could see from the beginning that it was my fault." Wanda looked at me and shook her head.
"It's my fault actually. I created Rumlow into Crossbones. Neither of you should blame yourselves."
"It's all our fault." Wanda said simply. I looked at Steve who came over and sat on the other side of Wanda and we sat there before I stood up and looked at the wall behind us.
"What's wrong?"
"You have a guest, Wanda." And through the wall, came Vision.
Vision is JARVIS and Ultron at the same time. He was created a year ago and helped to destroy an AI robot who wanted to destroy the earth and was created by Tony Stark. He was... Special to say the least.
"Vis! We talked about this!" I looked between Wanda and Vision, raising an eyebrow at the two. Steve looked up at me and shrugged.
"The door was open and I simply assumed..."
"Assumed what, exactly?" If Vision wasn't already red as a skin tone, he probably would be blushing.
"Mr Rogers and Miss Stone wanted me to alert them when Mr Stark arrived back. I wanted them to know."
"Thank you, Vision. We'll be there shortly." Steve nodded and Vision stood there for a moment before motioning to the door.
"I'll use the door..." Wanda nodded as well and Vision went past me to get to the door.
"He's done that before?"
"Olivia..."
"Wanda..."
"I'm not a kid."
"You're 19. I'm 103. I think I can treat you like a kid." Wanda glared.
"Just don't lock me in my room."
"Wouldn't dream of it."
I left the room and went straight to our dining area, thinking about how much times had changed. Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I sent a text to Sharon Carter.
How's she holding up?
I didn't wait for a response and slid my phone back into my jeans as I made my way down the hall.
Peggy Carter, founder of S.H.I.E.L.D and the woman who helped me after my... Transformation, wasn't doing so well. Suffering from Alzheimer's. I walked into our living area and smiled at most of my friends.
Ah, my friends. Half of them were pure genius and the other I swear were idiots. But oh well.
Natasha Romanoff sat at the table with Sam, avidly discussing something about the C.I.A and the Raft. Tony Stark was sitting quietly on a chair, his friend Rhodey looking at him as if the cat had caught his tongue. Vision was sitting beside Wands who had just come in and Steve was sitting in front of Stark.
"Have fun in the wilderness, Stark?" He glared at me and close his eyes. I reached out and saw what he was trying to tell me.
I'm sorry, Tony.
Thanks, Olivia.
Poor Pepper. Poor Tony, really. I didn't say anything aloud and dear readers, time will allow you to understand.
"Avengers!" Someone called in a rough voice, followed by a tall but greying man.
"Sir." Steve nodded his head. I stood in the little kitchenette and nodded, not saying anything.
Once a Solider.
The team suppressed a smile. I was good like that. I learned that it helps when scary looking people come to make little comments like that.
"US Secretary Ross." Natasha greeted him with a little bit of discomfort.
"Miss Romanoff. I take it that your mission was a success?"
"I think you know the answer to that sir." I piped up. He looked at me, hard grey eyes focused on me.
"Miss Stone."
"Thaddeus."
"That's Secretary Ross to you."
"And it's Olivia to you." Rosa glared at me for a second before motioning to an empty chair beside Sam.
"Take a seat, Olivia."
"Thanks Thaddeus but I think I'll stand. Makes it easier to send you flying through the window when you piss me off."
"Olivia!" I looked at Steve before continuing to make myself a cup of tea.
"Since the creation of the Avengers, some would argue that the world has become a safer place to live in. Others would disagree. New York and the alien invasion." On a screen behind Ross came a video from Loki (Thor's adopted brother) and his attack on New York in 2013. Steve and I hadn't been in anything or done much since we had woken up. Agent Coulson had been there to take us through (and tell us about the damn technological advances that had happened) and practically been the one that had gotten me to stay through the whole thing.
"That couldn't be helped." I stated, watching the destruction we helped caused.
"But could've been stopped."
"No. If Thor-"
"Where is Thor? Where is Bruce Banner? If Thor hadn't been banished here then Loki would never have come here."
"Would it have?" Natasha helped. I nodded at her thankfully and Ross ignored us and went on to his next example of how horrible we were.
"Washington D.C." Ouch. I watched as S.H.I.E.L.D collapsed, Hydra getting what it had always wanted but also failing at the same time.
I felt a familiar punch in my stomach and the glass coffee cup that sat in the sink burst.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" He looked straight at me as I stood there, knife clenched in my hand, knuckles turning white.
"Buck, it's me. It's your Liv."
"Stop calling me that!" He roared in rage before ripping a door off of a car with his metal arm and through it at me.
Ross seemed to get that we got the point with DC so he moved on.
"And last year, Sokivia." That, none of us needed reminding of. Wanda looked down at her hands, twiddling her thumbs, unable to watch as her home lifted into the sky.
"We get your point."
"Do you?" Ross turned off the screen and placed a heavy book on the table. My heart was racing in my chest and I was trying my best to steady my breathing.
Don't do this now, Liv. Don't have a panic attack I urged myself.
It wasn't until Ross had left that I felt a hand on my back.
"You can break all the glasses later, Liv." Stark said quietly. I smiled and found my breathing back to normal, only a little bit hitched in my throat.
"The safest hands are our own." Steve argued. I went around the table and lifted the book to me, watching it hover in mid air. It felt heavy but I had dealt with heavier before.
"The Sokovia Accords." I mumbled. "I don't like this."
"We can't do anything about it. 72 countries are going to sign it."
"But what if they send us somewhere that doesn't need us? What if they send us somewhere and someone else needs us?"
"That's just it, isn't it?" Rhodey threw his hands in the air.
"Help me out, Olivia." Rhodey looked at me, hoping I was going to be more helpful.
Ha. Like that would ever happen.
"I agree with Steve."
"Of course you do." Natasha looked at me and then at Stark.
"Guys, I trust my own hands over anyone except for Steve's when it comes to decisions about what I do."
"You were created in the 40's. You are supposed to be all patriotic." I glared at Rhodey.
"I'm afraid you're talking to the wrong super solider. I was a failed experiment. I was supposed to be like Steve. But no. I trusted Howard Stark and this is what happened. So you'll excuse me from being patriotic and all but I've lost far too much to give a care."
"You've been awfully quiet, Tony." Steve changed the subject quickly. Vision looked at me and cocked his head. I looked back at him and told him to get the hell outta my head.
Out of his pocket, Tony pulled out a digital picture of a boy. Well, a man. Explained that we had killed him. Not purposefully. But we'd killed him.
"I'm not signing the Accords." I said simply. With a rush of wind, I teleported my self out of there, not wanting to be around people who liked the idea of signing our lives away.
For those who have seen this, you'll be able to see that I'm following the story but not the script.
That's because I can't remember the script. So I'm making up my own. With parts that I remember from the film.....
