Chapter 11
I never thought I would stand on the doorway of a crazy Mexicans house and be stared at in awe.
Okay, so the awe bit I'm sorta used to when we (Avengers) go on a mission and get stared at (I'm also used to ye hate as well) but this guy was a whole new level of awe.
"So you're like, the Gem Stone?"
"Yep."
"And you need to talk to Scott."
"Yes."
"Man, this is a great day. I mean, this morning I had pancakes and then Mr Pym came with his daughter to see Scott and that was like, great! Now you're standing on my doorstep-"
"Luis, where is Mr Lang?" I laughed, rolling my eyes.
"Oh yeah... Scott!" He yelled. There was a loud thump and a muffled yell before footsteps.
"Sorry, lady. Are you like, on a mission?"
"That's cl- Yeah. I'm on a mission." I changed my tune and told him, knowing that he would just turn into a little puppy again, trying to get all the information.
"But you can ask Mr Lang for the details LATER." I put emphasis on the later and he nodded and Scott Lang came around the corner, tugging his shirt over his head.
"What, Luis? If it's a door to door salesman, I will shrink down and b- Oh." I grinned and waved.
"You're an Avenger."
"Yep."
"Gem Stone."
"The one and only."
"Why are you here? Do you want coffee? Tea? Whiskey? You probably can't get drunk..."
"Man, I've already asked her this and she shut me down and asked me to get you."
"Oh." I turned around and walked into hallway and telekinetically pulled Scott into the hall, the look on his face all I needed to know I had his full attention.
"Do you have your suit?"
"Always do." He pulled something out of his pocket and passed it to me. I held it and frowned at it, my old mind not exactly catching quite up.
"An action man?"
"No... This is my suit shrunk down. I get it larger when I need it." I turned it over in my hand and passed it back. Scott had a serious look on his face which was reassuring.
"We need your help."
"The Avengers?"
"Yeah. I need you to come with me right now to where I'm dropping you off at a pick up point then I'll be meeting you in Germany. Clint Barton and hopefully Wands Maximoff will get you in a car and bring you there." He nodded along as I told him what was happening.
"Highly illegal?"
"Harbouring and protecting a wanted fugitive for a terrorist attack none of us fighting for him believe he himself did."
Scott stood there for a moment and I didn't need to read his mind to see he was toying between the idea of helping us or telling me no.
"Please, Mr Lang-"
"Scott."
"- Scott. We need all the help we can get." He looked up at me and sighed.
"I'll do it. But can you promise me that afterwards you can meet my daughter? She's a huge fan." I blinked in shock and then smiled, nodding.
"I can do that."
"Awesome! When do we leave?"
"Now." I grabbed his arm and teleported to the place I had told Clint to meet him. When we got there, Scott was standing there, looking kind of shell shocked.
"Crap that was cool."
"It is. Now, wait here. Barton should be here shook but I need to get back to Steve and Sam and get some sleep." The though of sleep made my stomach churn but I pushed it aside and smiled.
"Did Sam tell you about me?"
"Yeah. Even called you Tic Tac." He grinned and sat down on the road.
"Olivia?" I turned around, surprised he knew my name but then again, everyone knew the names of the Avengers after Natasha released everything to the public.
"Thanks."
"We haven't done anything yet."
"Still. Luis was driving me crazy with pancakes. I mean, when it was waffles, I could deal. But now it's pancakes and they aren't that great..." I shook my head and smoothed out my frazzled ponytail.
"I'll see you in Germany, Scott Lang." I teleported right out of there to the airport and pulled my phone out, dialling the first number I had on my speed dial.
"Liv?"
"Hey Steve."
"Are you okay? Is everyone on board?"
"I'm fine. Uhm, yeah. Clint's getting Wanda and Scott is at a meeting point."
"I still don't see why you couldn't have brought him straight here."
"It takes a lot of energy to teleport someone else long distances. It's enough by myself but another person tires me out." Steve didn't answer for a second but spoke to someone else quickly.
"Where are you?"
"At the hotel in the airport. We have two rooms here so try and get yourself here as soon as possible."
"I'll try. I'm somewhere in the airport-oh. I'm in the food court never mind."
"Can you get here?"
"Yeah. I think I can see the building." I teleported and the phone cut out briefly before coming back on and Steve's concerned voice came through as I walked into the Lobby.
"Are you there, Liv?"
"I'm here. Don't worry, I just teleported." I stopped walking and winced as my head began to pound and my muscles felt like jello.
"Bet you just about felt like fainting."
"I didn't realise you were Captain Know-it-all." I muttered before going to the elevator and getting in.
"What floor?"
"13."
"What a lucky number." I said sarcastically as I clicked the number and felt the elevator shoot up.
"Bucky has been asking for you since you left."
"I'm almost there." My heart thudded and I pounded my head, trying to bring need out of déjà vu.
Just because he's asking for me doesn't mean anything.
"Almost there." I hung up before Steve could say anything and almost ran through the doors into Bucky.
"Shit, Buck."
"It took you long enough." Bucky wrapped his arms around me and engulfed me in a hug that I had so desperately missed.
"Are you okay?" I looked up at him and he nodded.
"You look exhausted, doll."
"That's because I am."
"I'll show you your room then." He took my hand in his human one and I let him lead me to a room that was big enough to have one of Starks annoying parties in it.
"We're right next door." I nodded and felt something off about Bucky. Before he could leave I grabbed his arm and made him turn to face me.
"What's wrong?" He looked at me and all I got was an emotionless expression. A mask.
"Nothing. I just need sleep." He responded and I shrugged and he left, his back straight and walking stiffly, attitude changing immediately.
Closing the door, I walked over the bed and saw something that made me smile. Something that I hadn't seen in a while.
On the bed lay my suit. It was simple but intricate, a dark blue that reminded me of a stormy night sky and little gems across the chest that reminded me of stars.
With long sleeves that covered my hands but left my fingers and the palm of my hand free, it was made for way moving and comfort, especially designed by Howard Stark and Peggy.
Running my fingers along it, I moved it off the bed and on to a chair, the boots moving with it. Still smiling I leapt onto the bed and manoeuvred under the sheets, feeling fatigue wash over me again.
You can't sleep, Olivia. Stay awake. I told myself but wasn't sure whether I could do it.
Which explained why three hours later I woke up sweating and screaming as Bucky ran into the room with a gun in his human hand and his metal hand clenched, ready to fight.
"Liv?" He whispered my name as he turned on the light and I cowered under the sheets.
I knew I shouldn't have slept.
"Buck, I'm okay. Stand down." A sob racked my body and I choked on it, trying to hide my shaking hand.
Bucky put the gun down and moved cautiously towards the bed, ready to fight someone. When he sat down on the bed, the look on his face changed from one of defence to a look so familiar and old, it felt like the 1940's again.
"Nightmare?"
"Can you tell?" He moved onto the bed some more, coming closer to my bunched up legs. I nodded at him and he moved more and faster so that is human side was pressed up against my head and he could pat my hair.
"Does this happen often?"
"Every time I go to sleep it does." I sat up some more and Bucky moved his hand and looked at me. I was still in the clothes I had arrived in and Bucky was in some cleaner clothing and looked like he had had a shower.
"Can you stay?" I asked quietly and Bucky hesitated before nodding. He moved his metal arm away from me and I frowned as he lay down, looking up at me and watching my movements as I put my head on his chest and closed my eyes, listening to the beating of his heart and felt his hand wrap around my waist.
"Bucky, that can't be comfortable." I said in regard to his metal arm hanging off the bed.
"It's better than hurting you." He whispered and I moved my head so I was looking at him.
"You won't hurt me. I know you." He swallowed and didn't move so I sighed and moved my arm and pulled his metal arm so it was also around my waist. Bucky went into full alert mode but didn't move.
"Just relax okay? We both need sleep and we can't fight tomorrow if I'm only running on caffeine and if your metal arm falls off." I closed my eyes and listens to Bucky's breathing and heartbeat.
As I was drifting off, I heard him say something under his breathe but I couldn't hear it, only the feeling of his arms tighten around my waist and felt lips against my hair as I was lulled to a dreamless sleep.
