(Delirious POV)
I opened my eyes, gasping for the air. It took me a while before I realized what was going on. My whole body hurt, like I was hit by a bulldozer. I was lying in the bed in for me unfamiliar surroundings. I sat up, slowly getting off the bed. I noticed a few bruises and fresh cuts on my body here and there. The door opened, reveling Luke.
"Rise and shine, Jonathan."
His enthusiastic mood, along with his wide smile, was pissing me off. I silently waved at him, standing up.
"So what happened?" I asked, not recognizing my voice.
The last thing I remembered was Luke giving me tetrodotoxin in Mark's house.
"He chose you, would you believe that?" Luke said amazed, and I frowned.
What?
"I prepared some lunch for us. Don't forget what we agreed on."
"I'm not hungry," I said, my voice cracked and silent.
"Ok," he replied a bit down.
I need to see Tyler. He's capable of killing everybody, and I'm not sure how he's doing right now.
"I remember... 11 pm. I'll be here," I said, walking passed by him.
"Where are you going?" He asked, and I looked at him.
"I'll be here," I repeated.
Sure, he helped me out with everything, but I hadn't seen him since I was 8 years old. He changed a lot. Not only his appearance, but also his character. He wasn't my protective best friend anymore. At least that was my first instinct. Not to trust anyone.
I left his house, walking right towards Tyler's place. As I approached the main door, I heard shouting from inside.
"I swear... open the fucking door!" Tyler yelled, and I heard footsteps.
Quickly hiding behind the corner of the building, I saw Craig walking out of the house. He locked the door and walked away.
What's going on here?
I approached the door, just to confirm what I had witness. It was locked. So I moved myself to the kitchen window, which was opened, climbing through it. I walked towards Tyler's door, taking a deep breath.
He's going to freak out.
I slowly unlocked the door and opened it. Tyler was sitting on the ground, his back leaned against the closet, his head in his hands. He was broken.
"Tyler," I whispered carefully.
His body tensed, his head turned my way. Our eyes met. He opened his mouth a few times, then closed it. Within few seconds he stood up, violently pushing me out of the room.
"You motherfucker!" He yelled, punching me into the face.
I could easily dodge that. He was weak, slow, his vision blurred by the tears, but I let him hit me. Under the pressure I stumbled back and hissed in pain.
"You piece of fucking shit!" He grabbed the nearest plate, throwing it at me.
I dodge it, hearing the scattering sound. He started to throw every thing that came under his hand, calling me many names, cursing me.
"Stop!" I shouted, watching him heavily breath.
"You don't even know how much I hate you!" He growled, grabbing the knife on the counter.
We both heard a door bell. Tyler went open it, and I leaned against the wall. My nose was bleeding, my lips were swollen.
"What?!" Tyler snapped at whoever was outside.
"H-hello... I-We-I just... our daughter needs to study a-and I would appreciate some sort of s-silence, so she c-can study," the man outside stuttered and I assumed it was Tyler's neighbor.
"This is how much fuck I give!" Tyler growled, slamming the door.
He turned himself to me, furious. I knew he had every right to be, I wasn't defending myself.
"How?" He asked, crossing the arms.
"Just a theater red color, one drug that stops your heart for some time so you look dead, and some sort of acting," I said, watching his expressions changing so fast.
"Why?"
"I knew Mark and the others won't get Evan the rest."
"So you faked your death? For Evan?"
"They let Evan go, didn't they?" I replied, curious what Evan was doing.
"You could have said something," he said offended.
"I know, but your emotions had to be real for the others to believe that I'm truly dead. After you showed me the picture of Luke, I recognized him. He was the one I was growing up, he was my childhood best friend. So I used him. I sent him to Mark's place with photos of me. His job was to convince the others that Evan was no harm, that I was the one they were looking for. And they believed him. Our plan was simple. They have to witness my death, so in order to that I had to die in front of everyone. Luke came up with this idea of Evan choosing, and I wasn't against it."
Now Evan can return back in his old tracks, and I can do it too.
"So Luke is on our side. How could you be so certain that Evan would sentence you to death? He could have said my name," Tyler said, and I nodded.
"That was something I was counting on, to be honest. It surprised me when he choose me. We had an alternative plan. If Evan chose you, Luke would have killed me anyway. There wasn't any other options."
Tyler sighed, walking towards me. I expected to be hit again, but I was pulled in into an hug.
"Just don't do it again! I'll go crazy," he mumbled, pulling away.
"How's Evan doing?" I asked, sitting down.
Tyler walked towards the fridge and opened it. He inspected whatever he had in, then closed it again. He grabbed two beers, putting them on the table, then sat across of me.
"Tyler?" I nudged him, feeling a growing nauseous.
"I don't know. Your fucking friend hit me into the head, I lost conscious. After I woke up, I was in your house. I haven't talk with Evan, but one thing I can tell you for sure... I'm really fucking pissed at Luke."
Maybe I should check upon him. How he's doing, or what's he doing.
"That's understandable," I said, looking down at my beer.
"Have you really lost your mind? Over Evan?Does he know you're alive?" Tyler whispered carefully.
I looked at him, threat written in my eyes. I didn't want anybody to talk about Evan, I didn't want anybody to talk about my emotions or relationships.
"My privacy," I said, and Tyler just nodded his head.
"How much do you trust Luke?" He asked instead.
I recalled a few memories with Luke. We were best friends, inseparable, before the accident with my parents happened. It was my fault.
"He was my best friend. I don't trust anybody, but he helped me out now. So I own him," I informed him.
"I'm asking because of Craig. I don't want him to get hurt, not especially when I know what is Luke capable of. And you're so lucky you showed up, because I was madly pissed. I wanted to kill him."
"That's why I came."
"If he hurt Craig, you won't be able to stop me. I'll kill him as soon as I can, you hear me?"
"Do your thing," I mumbled.
"What are your plans now?"
"I own Luke something. I'll stay low for a while, no killing."
He looked surprised, and I took a sip from my beer.
"No killing? Delirious... that's your life, that's you! What about me? How long will I sit on my ass waiting for the fucking change of your mind?"
"It's not going to be forever. We will be in touch, besides you know where to find me."
"I assume this is our secret then. You're still dead, right?" Tyler guessed, and I nodded my head.
Maybe I could visit Evan. No! That's not an option.
"Do you have some skeleton keys?"
I cursed myself. My mouth faster then my thoughts. Tyler looked at me curiously, then nodded.
"Sure. Just a sec," he mumbled, and walked away.
When he returned back he had exactly what I was looking for.
"Thanks, Tyler. I'll be going now, Luke is waiting."
I stood up, and walked towards the main door. I was fighting inside of me, whether check Evan or not. My one half really wanted to, just to be sure he was ok, my other half, the half I was going to listen, was telling me forget about him. It hurt me a little when he chose me over Tyler, but there wasn't any emotions between us. Only hormones.
Tyler grabbed the keys and unlocked the main door. I turned myself to him with a half smile.
"Take care, Delirious. I'll see you soon," Tyler said, completely calm and reasonable.
"You will."
I was certain that my next destination is going to be Luke's home. I was firmly certain even as I was standing in front of Evan's house. That little fucking voice in my head won everything. I waited few hours in silence, just watching his house like some kind of a creep. I had a time, I wanted to make sure he was doing ok.
Just a quick peek.
I waited few more minutes after the lights went off, the rooms went dark. After that I lock picked his house. Hearing the clicking sound, I smiled to myself. I opened the door, walking silently in. I gave my eyes some time to adjust them self to the darkness, then walked upstairs.
This is such a bad idea. I shouldn't be here, I don't want to be here.
I opened the first door, I came across. With no luck so far, I opened a few more before I found the room I was looking for. I saw sleeping silhouette on the bed. I walked slowly towards him, noticing something familiar on the nightstand.
Is that my mask? Why does he have my mask?
I hunkered down, looking at his sleeping calm face. He looked so peaceful, finally resting after everything that happened to him. Before I realized that, my hand was already on his face, caressing it. I couldn't stop my racing heart, as well as my lips which curled into a smile.
You're so sweet, Evan. Now, you're finally free, finally safe. There's no me, no Mark or Jack, no threat. And I'm going to miss you, I really do.
My whole world stopped, when he moved. He placed his hand on mine, pressing it again his chest like a Teddy Bear. I almost had a heart attack when I thought he woke up.
This are just hormones. They're going to vanish, they always do. Why did you say my name? Why did you want me to die?
"I need to go, Evan. I'll see you one day, I promise," I whispered, slowly getting my hand back.
"Delirious," he mumbled silently.
My heart went on it's marathon once again. I stopped moving, listening carefully. His breath was calm, slow and steady. He was still sleeping.
"Sweet dreams," I whispered with a smile, successfully retrieving my hand.
I leaned over him, kissing him on the forehead. I fixed the blanket which was over him, then left his room. I felt suddenly sad, but I knew I'm doing the best choice.
I got to Luke's place right on time. He was patiently waiting for me, and I leaned against the wall in the kitchen.
"Are you ready?" Luke asked, and I nodded.
"Alright, here's you gun. Just the one you wished for."
Now I'm wishing for Evan.
