Magical Happenings

Dearest Mama,

I know you've been sick for some time. I do hope you get better soon, the town sends their regards! But today something extraordinary happened! I met a warlock, he's name is Maggie B.  He doesn't have a bellybutton, and he was born that way! Isn't that awesome? For some reason he was the entertainer at the birthday party I went to.  Remember Shelly? Yeah, it was her birthday party. I'm writing this right now because soon the memories will disappear. They always do.

                      ~Cassie Nebeltin

From the sick bed, a woman with brown hair, some strands more grey than brown, sat up. Her eyes bloodshot with heavy bags,  were awake and alert as she read the message. She was used to the messages of her daughter meeting fairy people; people that she thought, until now, were made up. This was the first time she'd heard anything of a warlock, especially not one she knew was real! Her mind raced in different directions when she heard a small knock. She dismissed it as a trick of her mind, but then the same sound came again, slightly louder than the last. She turned towards the window, wincing as her neck flared in pain as protest to the movement .

She couldn't see what was making the sound. Yet as she concentrated there was a small yellow flicker of light. She couldn't tear her eyes off,  without realizing it her feet moved forward. One foot in front of the other. She ignored the way her feet wobbled, or how her arms ached so bad, or how her head pounded against her skull making her want to sit and lie down. She forced herself to the window and there floated a small creature. Barely a pinkies length, it floated on a cloud of mist. The fairy unnerved her, was it the tiny size? The unearthly beauty? The creature gave a knowing wink before floating away. It was only once she was safely back in bed, did she realize two things.

One, her body no longer hurt. The headache had left, her arms could feel again, and her feet no longer killed her. She had a suspicion if the doctor were to come in, she'd be deemed fit to leave.

Two, she finally realized why the fairy looked unnerving, the fairy looked exactly like her daughter.
