The Deal
"Tap was only 4 or 5 when I first found her. Back then I had several other little monster orphans that I had been taking care of, so Tap got along nicely with them. Tap was the youngest at that time, but she was always the ring leader. But... Adoption became very popular in that time period, and soon, one by one, each of Tap's friends, started to disappear from the orphan facility. Eventually, Tap became lonely and depressed. I don't blame her, I'd be the same way, if my friends vanished and I didn't understand why. Now don't think that I wasn't trying to find a home for Tap, I was, she's my most complicated adoptee I've ever had. It's just that... No monster wants to adopt a human. And you can understand why can't you? After Frisk, no one wanted to take any chances. Believe me, I wanted Tap to get adopted, more then anything. She's had several monsters want to adopt her, but once they found out she was a human, the adoption was off. Once though... A monster did get to see Tap. I don't know how, but I guess I skipped over the fact that Tap was human. It had been the farthest I had ever gotten through the adoption process with Tap. And when it was finally time for the adopter to meet Tap... They... They lashed out at her. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen. I've never seen Tap more terrified in all her life. Ever since then Tap has grown more and more scared of any monster that approaches her, afraid that they might attack her. That was, until recently. Undyne had been the first monster Tap had seen in years, besides myself. But even with Undyne, it took months for Tap to warm up to her. But with you two, it took an afternoon, for Tap to adapt." Asgore explained.
Papyrus and Sans stayed silent for a few moments. Why where monsters so afraid of Tap? After playing with Tap this afternoon, Papyrus and Sans only validated the fact that Tap was absolutely harmless, and wouldn't hurt a Whimsun.
"I want to adopt the human, Pap." Sans announced, finally. Asgore smiled. But Papyrus was still thinking it over.
"I don't think that's such a good id-"
"Papyrus, i-if you would just let me ease your conscience, It would be v-very good for the both you to have Tap around. A-and It would be even better for Tap! She would have a chance to have a real family, and it would really help her s-social anxiety." Undyne explained.
Tap walked down a few stairs and looked to Asgore. Normally he tucked her in at this time. All four monsters looked to Tap. Finally after a few moments Asgore spoke.
"Papyrus. Sans. Why don't you two tuck Tap in?" Asgore suggested. Tap's eyes widened. Sans was already halfway up the stairs and Papyrus was at the bottom of them. Within seconds, Sans swooped Tap up into his arms and nuzzled her little head. Papyrus saw this and knew from that moment on, that they had to adopt Tap. Papyrus hasn't seen his brother that happy since... Probably Christmas.
Tap was put into her bed (If you could call it that... It was honestly just a mat, a blanket, and and pillow, on the floor) and Sans sat at the foot of her bed an waited for Papyrus. When Papyrus got there, they both tucked Tap in, and watched as she quickly drifted off to sleep. Papyrus smirked at Tap, and stroked her head.
"Sleep well kid. You deserve it." Papyrus commented. Sans looked to Papyrus with pleading eyes.
"Papyrus. We have to adopt her." Sans announced seriously. Papyrus nodded.
"I know bro. I know." Papyrus agreed.
~~~~~~~~~The Next Day~~~~~~~~
Papyrus and Sans had made a deal with Asgore. They all agreed that if Papyrus and Sans took Tap around Snowdin and she didn't cause a ruckus, They would adopt her. And Tap couldn't wait. Tap got dressed in her nicest outfit and was bouncing in her chair as she ate breakfast. And Asgore was taking notice.
"Somebody's excited I see." Asgore chuckled. Tap nodded and continued eating her cereal. Soon Tap finished her cereal and sat in the rocking chair, anticipating Papyrus and Sans arrival. Eventually there was a knock on the door, and Tap zipped to the door and flung it open. There stood Sans and Papyrus. Tap smiled widely. Papyrus reached down and ruffled Tap's hair.
"Hey there kiddo." Papyrus smirked. Tap hugged Papyrus's leg, being the short little thing she was, and then moved on to Sans.
"Hello there human! I trust you slept alright?" Sans asked. Tap nodded and smiled. Then Asgore walked out the front door and chuckled.
"I take it you're ready to go, Tap?" Asgore asked. Tap nodded eagerly. "Well who am I to keep you waiting? Have fun my child." Asgore announced. Tap smiled and looked back to Sans and Papyrus, who nodded ahead of Tap in reply. Tap was about to take off but, Papyrus caught Tap with his magic and floated her in the air.
"Whoa there kiddo, where do you think you're going?" Papyrus asked. Tap pointed up the path, and then shivered. Papyrus saw Tap shiver and nodded. "Uh huh. We'll go to Snowdin, when you get a sweatshirt on." Papyrus explained. Tap sighed and looked to Asgore. Asgore had a sweatshirt for Tap already to go. Papyrus let Tap down and, heatedly, Tap grabbed the sweatshirt from Asgore, pulled it over her arms, and zipped it up. Then Tap pointed up the trail. Papyrus nodded. Off Tap went, surprisingly fast for her age, down the trail, kicking up snow behind her. Papyrus and Sans didn't expect her to take off so quickly, and as a result, Sans had to rush after Tap while Papyrus got all the information on Tap and what she needed for the day. As soon as Tap reached a hill she stopped dead. This was as far as Asgore would let her go when she was playing. Tap wasn't sure she wanted to go any farther then that point, at first, but Sans tripped and fell on top of Tap, causing the two of them to slide down the other side of the hill. And Tap was having a hay day! When they got to the bottom of the hill Sans was soaked with white slush and some how, Tap remained dry. Tap laughed for the first time in years. And Tap laughed hard and pure. And that made Sans laugh. He had never met a human besides Frisk, and they didn't even laugh. But Sans didn't want to remember Frisk right now. Tap sat up from the snow where Sans and Tap had landed and looked to Sans with the biggest smile she had ever given. Sans saw this and sat up. And then Tap threw a snowball at Sans. Sans wiped off his face and smiled.
"So you like snowball fights, human?" Sans asked. Tap shrugged. Then Sans threw a snowball at Tap. "Mweh heh heh! I do too!" Sans laughed. Tap wiped off the snowball, then prepared another snowball and stood up with the snowball behind her back. Unfortunately Papyrus saw it and removed it from Tap's hand, using magic, and the proceeded to make it drop on top of Tap's head. Soon Papyrus joined the two and Tap stuck her tongue out at Papyrus. Papyrus chuckled.
"Don't dish it out if you can't take it." Papyrus announced. Tap rolled her eyes, but still, her smile never faded. Papyrus then took Taps hand and walked with Tap up the snow covered trail, Sans right a long side Tap, keeping Tap smiling the whole way to Snowdin. Though it didn't last.
