Chapter-4: Result Out

Sometimes, the biggest victories aren't the ones everyone sees-they're the quiet ones, the personal ones, when you realize just how far you've come.

Nandini stepped into the expansive conference room, her heels clicking softly on the polished floor. The room was filled with an air of formality, a fitting backdrop of sleek furniture, neutral tones, and walls lined with framed accolades and accolades-a reflection of the company's towering reputation. She took a moment to center herself before focusing on the three people seated at the long mahogany table, each wearing expressions that ranged from polite interest to professional scrutiny.

To her right sat a young woman with neatly styled hair, a sharp blazer, and a poised expression. On the left was a man in his late 40s, whose demeanor spoke of years of experience and authority. And at the center, sitting confidently with an aura of quiet power, was a man around her age. His eyes, sharp and focused, held a silent intensity as he observed her with a subtle, assessing look. Nandini's heartbeat quickened slightly, her mind racing to conclude that this must be the CEO-Manik Malhotra himself.

Clearing her throat softly, she asked, "May I come in?"

The young woman gave her a quick nod. "Yes, please, have a seat."

Nandini approached the table and seated herself, maintaining a calm yet professional demeanor as she faced them. She took a moment to steady her breathing, mentally bracing herself for the interview ahead.

The woman to her right began, her voice confident and formal. "Good morning, Ms. Murthy. Let me introduce ourselves. On your left is Mr. Sharma, the HR head of Malhotra Industries. I'm Tanya, Mr. Malhotra's current secretary, and in the middle..." She glanced briefly to her left. "Is our CEO, Mr. Manik Malhotra."

Nandini felt her heart skip slightly as she registered the introduction. She had been right about him being the CEO, but hearing his name aloud added a layer of reality to the moment. She quickly gathered herself, looking at each person in turn and greeting them with a polite nod.

"Good morning, Mr. Malhotra, Mr. Sharma, Ms. Tanya," she said, her tone polite and calm. "Thank you for the opportunity to interview today."

Manik gave her a barely perceptible nod, his expression remaining neutral yet observant. Mr. Sharma leaned forward, flipping through a stack of papers that she recognized as her resume. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he scanned the document, and Nandini felt a slight surge of confidence, sensing that her qualifications had already left a positive impression.

"Ms. Murthy," Mr. Sharma began, his voice warm yet professional. "I must say, your resume is impressive. You've had quite an academic journey."

Nandini inclined her head with a modest smile. "Thank you, sir. I've worked hard to prepare myself for opportunities like this."

Mr. Sharma nodded, acknowledging her response before moving on. "Well, let's get to it. Tell us about a challenging project or responsibility you've handled in the past."

Nandini took a breath, feeling her nerves settle as she dove into her prepared responses. "During my final year, I was chosen to lead a collaborative project involving multiple teams across different disciplines. We faced unexpected challenges-mainly conflicting schedules and resource limitations-but I coordinated between the teams, adjusted our timeline, and made sure we met our goals without compromising the quality of our work."

Mr. Sharma seemed satisfied with her answer, nodding slightly as he moved to his next question. "Impressive. Now, let's talk about time management. This role will require you to manage multiple priorities. Can you tell us how you handle pressure?"

Nandini responded with practiced confidence, explaining how she had managed to balance her academics with extracurricular activities, internships, and part-time responsibilities. She spoke about her organizational skills and how she prioritized tasks based on deadlines and importance, making sure to handle each responsibility with equal dedication.

After a few more questions from Mr. Sharma, Tanya, the current secretary, took over, leaning forward with a slight smile. "So, Nandini, given that this is your first job, why choose Malhotra Industries?" she asked, her tone friendly yet probing.

Nandini smiled, appreciating the opportunity to express her genuine admiration for the company. "I've always aspired to work in an organization that values innovation, growth, and integrity. Malhotra Industries stands at the forefront of its industry, not just as a leader in business but as a company known for its ethical practices. I want to be part of something bigger than myself, where I can contribute and learn from the best."

Tanya raised an eyebrow, clearly pleased with the answer. "Good. I can see you've done your research."

Nandini nodded, her confidence growing with each positive response she received. She felt a surge of relief as she realized she had managed to maintain her composure, even under scrutiny.

After Tanya's round of questions, Manik, who had remained mostly silent, finally leaned forward. His gaze was sharp, and his voice was steady and measured.

"I'd like to know something, Ms. Murthy," he said, his tone low yet commanding. "Your qualifications are quite impressive, perhaps even overqualified for this role. And considering this would be your first job, why apply for a position as a secretary rather than pursuing something more advanced?"

Nandini could feel the intensity of his gaze, and it took a moment for her to gather her thoughts. She had anticipated a question like this, but his directness still added a challenge to her response.

With calm composure, she replied, "Mr. Malhotra, I believe that every role in a company holds significance, and I want to learn from the ground up. By working closely with experienced professionals, I hope to gain insights into the industry and develop a strong foundation. While I may have qualifications for higher positions, I want to start here, where I can observe, contribute, and grow."

Manik's expression remained unreadable, but she noticed a subtle shift in his posture, as if he was giving her answer genuine consideration. "Interesting," he said, his tone neither approving nor dismissive. "Learning from the ground up, you say. That's... a rare outlook for someone with your credentials."

Nandini nodded, maintaining her poise. "Thank you, sir. I believe the experience will be invaluable."

The three interviewers exchanged brief glances, and Nandini couldn't help but wonder what they were thinking. Tanya jotted down a few notes, while Mr. Sharma nodded in what seemed like approval. Manik simply leaned back, crossing his arms as he looked at her thoughtfully.

After a brief pause, Mr. Sharma cleared his throat and said, "Well, Ms. Murthy, that will be all for now. We appreciate your time and answers. You'll be informed of the results soon via email."

Nandini offered a small, polite smile. "Thank you, Mr. Sharma, Ms. Tanya, Mr. Malhotra. I appreciate the opportunity."

Manik gave her one final nod, his expression still unreadable as she rose from her seat. As she left the room, she couldn't help but replay the interview in her mind, wondering what impression she had left on them-especially him. But as she stepped out of the conference room, she felt a growing sense of pride. She had done her best and held her ground.

The building's towering glass façade greeted her once more as she exited, the sunlight casting a warm glow over her as she looked back up at the Malhotra Industries logo above. A faint smile crept onto her face as she whispered to herself, "I did it. Whatever happens, I know I gave it my all."

With one last look at the company, she hoped to join, she walked away, feeling a renewed sense of determination and excitement for what lay ahead.

Nandini arrived back at her penthouse, her steps light with a mixture of relief and satisfaction. She placed her bag on the couch, letting out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, and headed straight to the kitchen, hoping to whip up a quick meal to ease her hunger. The quiet of the kitchen felt welcoming, and she began gathering a few ingredients, relishing the peaceful solitude of her own space.

Just as she reached for a pan, her phone rang, interrupting her rhythm. She glanced at the screen, recognizing the familiar number with a sigh and a soft smile. She pressed the answer button, and before the caller could speak, she began.

"Hello, yes, my interview went well," she said, a trace of excitement creeping into her voice, "but the result hasn't been declared yet. You'll be the first person I inform; I promise."

A faint chuckle from the other end made her smile widen, and she could sense the gentle concern in their voice even without words.

"Yes, yes, I'm about to eat something now," she added with a playful exasperation, anticipating their next question. "Please don't start provoking me into coming there. I don't want to... not yet, at least." She took a deep breath, steadying herself before continuing. "I promise I'll come soon. Just... let me settle in here first."

There was a slight pause on the other end, and she felt a pang of guilt, sensing their silent disappointment. But before they could insist further, she quickly added, "I can't come back just yet. Please, try to understand. Okay... bye for now." She hung up gently, staring at the screen for a moment, lost in thought. Her smile faded slightly, but she shook off the bittersweet feeling and resumed her cooking.

Later that night, Nandini settled down on her balcony with a steaming cup of coffee, enjoying the quiet of the city under the stars. The hum of the distant traffic served as a gentle reminder of the bustling life around her, yet she felt comfortably isolated, savoring the calmness of her own thoughts. She took a sip, leaning back in her chair as she reflected on the day's events. The interview replayed in her mind, and she felt a surge of pride; she knew she had done her best, and now all she could do was wait.

Just as she took another sip, her phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. She unlocked it, noticing an email notification, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw the sender-Malhotra Industries. Setting her coffee down, she quickly opened the email, her eyes scanning the words eagerly. She read the words she had hoped to see:

"Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have cleared your interview and have been selected for the position. You are expected to join us on Monday at 9 a.m. sharp. Further details about the onboarding process are attached..."

She felt a rush of excitement, a spark of disbelief mixed with joy. It was real. She had secured the position. A broad smile spread across her face as she let the moment sink in, allowing herself a small victory celebration in the quiet of her home. She immediately picked up her phone, messaging the person who had called her earlier that day, "I did it! I got the job-I'm starting on Monday!"

She placed her phone on the table, gazing out over the cityscape one last time. A sense of accomplishment filled her, along with the feeling that this was just the beginning of a new chapter. She gathered her coffee mug, now empty, and headed back inside, her mind already planning out the next two days. She knew she'd need to unpack, organize, and prepare herself mentally for her first day at Malhotra Industries.

As she settled into bed, a quiet smile lingered on her face. This move, this job, this new life-it was everything she'd worked for. She let herself drift to sleep, ready to face whatever awaited her in the days to come.

Hope you all like the chapter.....
