CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
The drive down to his father's place was a long and fast drive. The need to see Diana once again that day rose up big in him the moment he had stepped out her door.
Through out the drive, he wondered what was so important that his father had him driving down on a Saturday afternoon. Was it his health condition or probably His disagreement to his relationship with Diana.
As much as he hated the fact that his father was against his relationship with Diana. He hoped his father was Hale and healthy. He couldn't afford for his father's health condition to worsen than it was already.
He still needed his father.
Just as he drove into the car park of his father's mansion he met his mother Rebekah Tanner waiting patiently for his arrival.
Patiently waiting for him means all was well with his father but he couldn't say the same about his father's opposition to his affair with Diana.
"So good to see you mother" Alex puts in beaming with smile as he drew Rebekah in for a hug.
"Alex" Rebekah mentioned her eyes filled with motherly love and affection, she gave him a peck and took her son in for a hug.
Rebekah Tanner a beautiful and highly sophisticated woman. About five ft tall with a lean, strong body. Rather too strong for a woman in her late fifties.
A woman whose shrewdness and diligence had kept her as the president of women's affairs in the region, for five good solid years.
Her love for humanity, social well-being and her telepathic nature among other capabilities has made her to be loved by many if not all.
A doting mother and loving Wife. One could say she was the definition of a virtuous woman.
" I drove as fast as I could, hope everything is alright " Alex asked all in one breath. He needed to be sure.
Rebekah released Alex from their gripping hug "Absolutely. Now tell me why you haven't create time to see me yet" Rebekah questioned with feign annoyance.
"Am sorry mum, it's just that have been busy" Alex apologized as they both made their way out of the car park into the building structured right in front of them.
"Too busy to see your mother but not too busy to go out on dates" Rebekah accused Alex.
Alex looked at his mother and saw the way her lips was squeezed together which only confirmed his speculation about his mother been mad at him.
He definitely had that coming. The number of visit and calls he had given to his mother over the pass months could all be counted on one hand and yet there will still be more fingers left on the same hand to count.
His relationship with his mother havent been exactly perfect but then it wasn't bad all the same. His mother has always been his number one supporter and fan. Basically that only applied to what he has managed to do with his life, how successful he has become over the years, it didn't apply to his frivolous attitude towards girls.
With Diana now, he knew everything would change.
His mother would be pleased he was now in a serious relationship for once.
So if his mother was pissed at him right now for negligence, he sure well deserved it.
They were now inside the sitting room but his father wasn't there yet. Alex made a mental note to check him in his room upstairs but right after he settles things with his mother first.
"I know I haven't been the exact good son and i have no perfect excuse or whatsoever to redeem myself but seriously mum, am really sorry. You of all people know me better than that."
Rebekah looked at her son and noticed that he was deeply really sorry and felt bad for not asking after his mother. She contemplated whether to really let him off the hook this time or not.
After much consideration she gave up and accepted his sincere apology. She would have to accept it sooner or later. It was only appropriate and kind of her to let it go now.
"If I will have to accept your apology, you must at least create time maybe on a Sunday to have dinner with I and your father" Rebekah retorted. She noticed how her son's eyes darken with the mention of his father.
Which only made her to add more persuasion to her offer " I know you and your father isn't exactly on a good term right now. But you should do it for me to catch up and of course for Diana"
Diana's name been mentioned by his mother came to him as a shock. He lifted his eyebrows just as he gaped at his mother with obvious surprise.
"Diana." Alex murmured.
"Yea Diana, don't you even think I don't know what is going on with you son"
"What do you know about Diana? " he asked almost in a rush. The urge to protect her came tumbling down on him.
"Enough to know that you hold her dear," Rebekah puts in, clearly enjoying herself with where this conversation was heading.
"And also, enough to know that you and your father are not presently on the same page, mainly because of her. "
"Clear enough." Alex surrendered already but not without staking his claim on Diana.
"Mother, where are you taking this to now, am sure you and your husband doesn't support our relationship"
"You see that's where you are wrong Alex"
"Wrong? " Alex questioned perplex.
"I like the fact that you are fighting for what is yours, the fact that you are against the marriage your father has planned for you with that his friend' s daughter. In fact I support your relationship with Diana" Rebekah said conclusively.
Alex smiled, the frown he didn't know had formed round his forehead disappeared with his mother soothing words.
Finally, someone was on the same page with him over the arranged marriage his father contrived already.
But why wasn't his mother putting up a fight with his relations with Diana? Why did she accept Diana been with him so easily? why was she so calm about all this?
Alex wondered, but the more he searched for answers to his rising thoughts, more questions followed suit.
His mother had not spoken to him as someone that would allow a woman of no social class, high class to date him.
His mother support came very good and reliable. Infant it couldn't have come at a much better time.
As much as the timing was perfect and all, his wondering thoughts were not far from his mind.
"As much as I would like for us to continue this conversation son, you need to see your father, he says he has something important to discuss with you." Rebekah puts in before Alex could offer his own take on what she just said.
"Of course, but we are getting back to this. " Alex speculated with this hands, which only meant their discussion about Diana wasn't over yet. It was just about to start.
God. He loved talking about her.
