CHAPTER ELEVEN
The restaurant Alex drove her to was called trout, an pretentious place hidden from the road in a fold in the hill side. He wanted to impress her and also protect her from the paparazzi that would print anything even tho it wasn't true to get food on their table.
His long forefingers gentle as he smoothened it over her reddened knuckles.
"I'm really sorry about that Diana"
Diana pulled her hand away, annoyed to find herself flustered by the contact.
She took refuge behind the large menu.
"I thought we agreed to forget work anyway" she said gruffly, suddenly feeling the idea of coming here was a mistake, no matter the attraction or feelings she might have towards she had not yet planned on acting on it not to even talk about admitting it to herself that she feels a strange but strong attraction towards her boss, her freaking boss!! Who has attraction towards there boss, well except you are freaking Diana Blume she scolded herself.
"What do you recommend to eat?" She looked up to meet an oddly disquieting look in his eyes.
" what's the matter?"
"Nothing" he said absently then applied himself to the menu.
After giving himself a mental lecture to lighten up the mood, he spoke up
"The chef is a genius with salmon and of course the trout's good, but I can recommend most things".
The meal was everything he promised. They both choose salmon, the speciality of the day. They went on talking in a leisurely, unexpected way over dessert until Diana realised with surprise that they were the only people left in the room.
"It must be time we left Mr Alex"
"I thought I told you once that I answer well to Alex" he said as he got up to hold her chair for her.
" That of course" she said as they went out into now deserted garden
" is out of question, as a matter of fact I don't understand"
"I meant socially" Alex explained, Diana stiffened.
"This evening was a one- off, Mr Alex I came because I was tempted by the prospect of a delicious meal in a pretty place on a lovely evening like this." Diana denied flatly, not ready to admit to him that she to might feel an ounce of attraction towards him just as he had confessed to her last week.
" Now Mr Alex" she continued in her denial of her feelings "if you don't mind I'd like to get home''.
Alex opened the passenger door for her in silence, he knew what he had to do, which he was gonna be when he drop her off. He had to be sure if the feeling was mutual.
The silence prevailed unbroken during the long journey back to her house. But when they arrived at her house Alex leapt from the car to open Diana's door for her, his hands on her wrist to make her stay when she tried to brush past.
"Thank you for the meal" she said as she got down from the car.
" something tells me" Alex began softly, pulling Diana nearer " that this may be the only opportunity I'll ever have"
"For what?" She demanded, trying to free herself.
"You can't be that naive Diana Blume'' he wrapped his arms round her, looking down into her eyes for the last second before his arms tightened convulsively as electricity, sudden and unexpected flared between them like summer lightning, fusing then together in sudden flooding need which rendered them oblivious to everything around them.
Diana jumped away, breathing heavily and raggedly, her eyes dazed and incredulous as they met the heat in Alex.
He moved after her, purpose in every line of him but she shook her head vigorously, took to her heels and fled from him, racing up the stairs to her flat in unreasoning panic.
With the door locked safely behind her, Diana rushed to open all her windows to the night air.
Her blood still pounding through her veins. What a fool she had been to go out with Alex Tanner in the first place!
She should have known he'd expect some return for the meal once they had got home. She paced through her small domain like a restless tigress, annoyed and nervous with her mindless response to a man who happens to be her company's boss.
She was definitely affected by the sudden kiss, she had not see it coming, she touched her lips as her mind wandered to few minutes ago when his mouth on hers. She didn't want to be affected but she damn was, at this realization she was thankful they'd been outside, no matter who'd been looking on.
If she had let him in into her apartment, the incident might have been a very different conclusion. One which gave Diana the most restless night of her life as she tried in vain not to think about it.
