Chapter 18
I stand still, unable to say anything while my blood froze. My throat is dry and I feel suddenly dizzy. I knew this day would come one day, but I didn't think it would be so soon. He found me.
"Amelia, what are you doing here?" He asks again in his stern voice.
Lucas shakes me lightly by my shoulders. "Amelia who is he?" He asks.
I look at Lucas, his eyes mixed with concern and curiosity. I wish Lucas wasn't here right now. This is not going to end well.
"He's my father." I finally manage to say.
Lucas lets go of me once he hears me, and steps forward to greet my father. "Oh hello Mr. Grayson, I'm Lucas Anderson. Its a pleasure to finally meet you." He puts his hand out in front of my father.
My father snickers at that. "I am not Mr. Grayson. I'm Henry. Henry Jenkins." My father shakes Lucas's hand.
Lucas looks shocked to hear that, but he recovers quickly. "I'm sorry. It was my mistake." He looks over at me questioningly. I can't even bear to look at Lucas right now. He must have so many questions, but I will tell him everything later.
"Dad please. I can explain everything." I beg, looking at my father.
My father's face is twisted in confusion, then his lips stretch to a smirk. "Yes please explain. I'm listening."
"Dad, not here." I'm on the verge of tears.
"Why? Afraid your boyfriend might find out the truth?" My father looks at Lucas, then at me.
"Amelia, what is he talking about?" Lucas asks me, narrowing his eyes at me.
"Yes, why don't you tell him Amelia?" My father crosses his arms across his chests. "Why don't you tell him about how you lied about your identity?"
"Amelia?" Lucas asks me again. I look up to him and see that his face is red anger. "You lied to me?"
"No, Lucas its not like that."
"Does your boyfriend know how you abused your mother before you left?" My father cuts in.
The tears are falling now. "I did not!" I yell.
"I thought you said your parents were divorced." Lucas scrunches his brows, stepping further away from me.
"Actually Lucas," I step towards him.
"Oh, did she say we were divorced?" My dad snickers. "Amelia, did I not tell you its bad to lie?"
"You lied to me?" Lucas looks angry, but hurt even more so.
"No, Lucas its not what you think." I pursed my lips, trying my hardest to control my tears.
"What is then, Amelia? What else are you lying about? Was everything you said last night a lie too?" He says, his tone laced with hurt.
"No please listen to me Lucas." I grab his arms.
"No! I am done with this bullshit. You lied to me. Just-" He runs his fingers through his hair. "Just leave me alone." He says, his nostrils flaring in anger.
I start to follow after him but my father grabs me by my hands, stopping me. "Don't think you're going anywhere."
"Dad stop it!" I was nearly shouting but he did not seem fazed. A few people walking by turn to look at me, but they are the least of my concerns right now.
"No! You stop! I have had enough of your rebellious behaviour young lady." He says and grabs my arm. His grip is so tight I swear it will leave marks.
I hate the way he calls me young lady as if he thinks I'm still a child. This is how he always treats me, like I don't know how to express my feelings.
"Dad let me go!" I say through my teeth, as I jerk my hands away from his grip. "You don't get to tell me what to do anymore! I'm an adult now. I make my own decisions."
"Oh so you think hitting the woman who have loved you and cared for you all your life is a good decision?" My father yells. "You never even called her mother once." He seethes.
"She is not my mother! She never was and she never will be! And how do you know she loved me? How do you know she cares about me? You were never home even for a day. How do you know she doesn't abuse me when you're not around?" My tears falling.
My father looks shocked to hear that. "What are talking about? Claire would never do that."
"Oh because Claire is so perfect right?" I scoff. "Did you know she used to hit me? Yes your perfect Claire hit me! She hit me everyday after school when I go home. She hit me whenever she got drunk. But you wouldn't know right? Because you never stay home ever since mom died."
"That's it! You're leaving with me. You have gone crazy. Lies after lies after lies." He grabs me by my arms and leads me outside. "We are going home. Enough of this!"
"Dad, please let me go." I beg. We are creating quite the scene, but the problem is nobody cares enough to help us.
He shoves me inside a car, and gets in after me. My tears are unstoppable now. I can't go back home. I need to see Lucas. I have to talk to him. I owe him the truth.
"We are leaving on the first flight tomorrow. I'll drop you off at the hotel. I need some business to take care of first." He takes out his phone and makes a call. "Yes I want to make a reservation for one room, please."
I know my father would never let go of me now that he found me. How am I going to meet Lucas? He's all I need to talk to. I don't care if dad takes me home. I just need to see Lucas one more time.
"Dad please let me see Lucas before I go. I promise I'll leave with you tomorrow." I beg my father, tears in my eyes.
My father looks unconvinced as he gives me a look. "Dad I promise. I'll meet you at the airport. Just let me see Lucas. Please dad. I'm begging you."
My father looks as if he's contemplating whether he should let me go or not. "Alright fine. But you must reach the airport by tomorrow morning."
I let out a breath that I did not know I had been holding in. I stop the driver and quickly get out of the car. I don't know where Lucas will be right now so I call his phone. He's not answering. So I call the office again to ask if he's at the office. Sophie says that he hasn't come to the office today. Where could he be? He must be so upset right now. I call Margaret again to ask if he's there, but he's not. I take a cab and decide to wait for him at his apartment.
When I reach his apartment, I see that its locked so I slump down on the front steps. He's not here. I should've told him the truth from the start. I cry once again thinking about how Lucas would hate me right now. I try calling his phone again but still no answer. So I send him a text.
Lucas please hear me out first. I'm at your apartment.
I press send, letting out a deep sigh.
Images of Claire hitting me flashes before my eyes. She pulls me by my hair, I'm screaming for help but no one hears me.
"Amelia?" I hear Lucas's voice. I snap my eyes open. I must have dozed off, it's already dark.
"Lucas." I stand up and look at him. His eyes are all red, his hair is disheveled. My heart breaks seeing him this way. "Lucas please listen to me. I can explain everything." I say and step towards him.
"I don't wanna talk to you." He says and walks past me. He opens his door and steps inside.
I follow after him. "Lucas will you listen to me for once!" I yell after him.
He stops short in his tracks and turns around. "What? What more do you want to talk about?" He sounds so angry, I'm almost scared.
"I lied okay. I lied about my name. I lied about my parents. And I'm sorry! But I did not lie about us! I swear what I feel for you is real. Lucas you know how you make me feel." I say, my tears falling down my cheeks despite my attempt not to cry.
"And you expect me to believe that?" He scoffs.
"Lucas please. I'm telling you the truth." I beg him.
He shakes his head, running his fingers through his hair. "I don't believe you. You know you're the first person that I'm allowing myself to have feelings for. I never cared about relationships. I don't believe in those shit. But then you came around and changed everything. You slowly paved your way into my heart. And I let you." He lets out a deep sigh. "I shouldn't have done that. You fucking lied to me!"
"Lucas I'm sorry I lied. I am." I wipe my tears that have been falling endlessly. "My father's taking me home tomorrow." I say after a long pause.
"Good. I don't ever want to see you again." He says without even looking at me.
"Lucas please." I beg.
"I love you." I say, my words surprising me as much as Lucas looks surprised to hear it.
He looks at me, his eyes going soft for a second but returning to its dark expression. He opens the door, looking away, "Leave."
My heart shatters into a million pieces at that. I didn't know that a person could give you so much pain. I leave his apartment. My heart hurts knowing that I will never see Lucas again, but it hurts more by the fact that I'll never meet anyone who makes me feel the same way as he does.
******
Okay yes I cried while writing this chapter. I'm an emotional wreck, I know. Its just that I get so emotionally involved when I write, same goes for when I read that I feel for the characters in the books and it makes me sad whenever something sad happens. So I cry.
Okay enough about that. So last chapter I asked who you think it was at the airport, and everyone of you got it right. I'm surprised. Haha Or was it that obvious?
I love you all so much for the votes and comments. Thank you for reading this book. It means a lot to me.
