Chapter 12
I can feel the warmth of the sun on my face, as I toss to turn away from the light. I don't want to get up and face the day. I'd rather lay here all day. I turn away once more from the light. Its too bright and its making my eyes scrunched.
"Sleepyhead time to wake up!" I hear Matt's voice. Why am I hearing his voice so early in the morning anyway?
I pull my pillow up to cover my ears and try to regain my sleep once more.
I feel a tug of the covers away from me and I'm instantly engulfed with the cold air. My pillow that I used to cover my ears are being swung away, quite brutally. I suddenly realize that I live alone, so I get up instantly from the bed and stand up, opening my eyes wide, with my fists balled. I'm met with a laughing Matt, who's standing just before me with breakfast in his hands.
"Oh its you." I say and let my hands immediately fall free. I slug down on the bed lazily.
"Duh! Who did you think I was? And seriously did you think you were gonna fight someone like that?" He laughs again, which earns him a glare from me.
"Alright." He regains is composure. "I forgot you weren't a morning person." He puts the plate on the bedside table.
"Never was. Never will be." I say as I pick up the plate and eat the food. "Mm you should totally consider to be a cook. This is so good." I moan as I devour the rest of it.
"I'm actually thinking of opening a café after I get my degree. You know, just something small, not fancy." He muses.
I absolutely believe Matt is capable of doing anything he puts his mind into. And he's always loved cooking so I'm sure he'll be successful in no time.
"You should totally do that! You know what you should name your café? Amelia's delicacies!" I exclaim, "Since you know I'm a people's person, so you're gonna get a lot of customers."
"No way. You will not have any part," he points his finger at me, "not even your name when I open that café. You'll probably just come and eat all the food, there'll be hardly any left for the customers." He says with a wide grin on his face.
"True." I nod, "But at least you'll never have anything to throw away at the end of the day." I laugh.
Matt shakes his head and chuckles lightly. "So you feeling better today?" He asks as he takes a seat on my bed.
I get up from the bed and tie my hair in a bun. I need to take a shower.
"Yeah I'm fine now. Your hot chocolate did the trick." I smile.
"See? That's the power of me. I can heal people." He brags. "So you're gonna go to work?" He quickly adds.
I enter the bathroom and close the door. "Yeah I think I should. Maybe I should apologize to Lucas. I shouldn't have snapped at him." I say a little louder so Matt can hear me.
"See I knew you'd do the right thing." I hear Matt say. "I'll be downstairs alright?"
"Okay." I quickly shower making sure not to take too long this time. After the shower, I quickly get ready and head downstairs.
I see Matt in the kitchen having his breakfast. It feels warm to have someone in the house when you wake up and go to work. I smile at seeing him, he'll never know how happy I really am to have him here.
"I'm going Matt. See you tonight!" I quickly give him a peck on his cheeks.
He rubs his face with a grimace. "Eww! Mom I'm too old for kisses." He teases.
I laugh as I head out the door and wait for a cab. I look at my phone to see the time, I still got ten minutes. A lot of time to try and explain myself, I think to myself. I just hope Lucas will hear me out without getting mad. I finally get a cab and step inside.
When I reached Lucas' apartment, the driver's already on the front door. So maybe I might be a little late than I thought. Just as I'm about to knock on the door, Lucas opens the door and stepped outside.
"Good morning Mr. Anderson." I say as cheerful as I can. He meets my eyes but quickly turns away and walks past me.
"Let's go." He simply states before entering the cab.
I gasp. Did he just ignore me? I groan mentally. This is going to be a long day.
I enter the car and see Lucas busy on his phone. He doesn't even glance at me.
"Uhm Mr. Anderson?" I look at him.
"What?" He snaps and gives me an annoyed look.
"I-I just uh wanted to apologize." I avoid his eyes and looks down at my hands.
"Apologize for what?" He puts his phone down and turns away.
"You know for the other day. I'm sorry I acted that way, I was-"
"Amelia I don't give a damn alright. I don't care about that shit. From now on let's only keep it business." He growls.
We reach the office and Lucas hurriedly goes out without uttering another word. I let out a deep sigh and follow suit. I knew it wouldn't be easy to talk to him, I'll have to try once more.
When I reach my desk, I see an envelope on the table. I grab the envelope and take a seat on my chair. I open the envelope and see that it is an invitation to the Spring Gala to be held at Brooks Garden.
"Amelia I need you to hand these files to Mr. Anderson. I need his approval on them." Sophie, our finance manager hands me a couple of files. She sees the invitation in my hands and asks, "So who are you gonna go with at the Gala?"
"I thought we were all supposed to go. Aren't we?" I ask her. The Spring Gala is usually where most of the companies from the city come together to meet so they may form a partnership with each other. So I thought we would all be going as a work group.
"No. We'd be too many if we all went so Mr. Anderson picks only one to go with him each year. I guess this year the lucky one's you. But you can bring someone with you." She says while scrolling through her phone, without even looking at me. "Lucas went with Samantha last year, but I wonder who he'll go with since they broke up."
She's usually the type in an office to gossip about others. This is one of the many reasons why I didn't want to date Lucas.
"Oh." I simply say. I had forgotten that Samantha used to date Lucas. I can't help but feel a little pang of jealousy deep inside.
"Aren't you two like a thing though? I keep seeing you two leave work together." She's still on her phone.
I shake my head, she must be so hungry for gossip. But I'm not the kind of girl to talk about my personal life freely.
"Maybe we just happen to finish work at the same time. Coincidence I guess." I state nonchalantly.
She finally looks away from her phone and gives me a skeptical look. "Well, get his signatures alright? I need to mail those by today." She says and leaves my desk.
I take the files with me and knock on Lucas's door. I enter once he gives me permission to enter. I see him typing on his laptop, immersed in his work. He always takes work so seriously while managing to look good at the same time.
"Mr. Anderson I'm gonna need your signatures on these files. They need to be mailed today so it'll be better if you could do it now." I put the files on his table and stand back.
"Alright." He takes the file and flips through it.
I take this opportunity to ask him about the Gala.
"Um Mr. Anderson are we supposed to go together at the Gala?" I ask quietly but just enough to be heard.
"What?" He snaps his head up and looks at me.
"Since you don't have anyone to go with anymore, I thought we would go together?" I ask rather than state.
"Oh you think I don't have anyone to go with?" He snickers. "Ms. Grayson I can get any girl I want. I'm a millionaire remember? But I'm guessing you don't have anyone to go with?" He smirks.
Is he serious? He must think just because I declined him that means I don't have anyone to date. Well I'll show him who's dating who.
"No, I'm going with my boyfriend." I say and leave his room.
