From the wide road in front of the castle gates, the training grounds were a short ride and could be accessed by another wide path on the right, the main entrance went along side of the small rise and down to an enormous arena, that was meticulously maintained. The gallops extended around the back of the grounds in a circuit that brought you back to the arena, and there were some earthworks on the left for training, or used for seating.

The cherry tree was about one o'clock if you were standing on the low rise, and there were more behind it, although not as big. To the left, beyond the arena, a training space that extended right back to forest meant if you were galloping a straight line, the cherry tree was right in front of you.

Not all of it was flat, it kind of undulated, and there were some massive rocks, smooth from the climate and time that poked their faces from the earth.

Sword training was usually on the two flattest areas, near the cherry tree and just beyond the arena near the gallops.
